Wow!!! I was the car artist on The Getaway. That was amazing to see the cars I made but were cut. It really brings back memories. The Granada was one of my favourites to model, I even got the old religious fish badge in :) I remade the number plate system just before beta so that's why those cars number plates are screwed up.
So glad you enjoyed the video!! It's really such a shame they had to be cut :( Sadly, it looks like the Audi TT might be gone forever as it is nowhere to be found. Same for the green version of the Badboy Golf... As for the number plates, I had so many headaches trying to figure out what's wrong with them, haha! After a certain amount of the same car is spawned, eventually one of them would have proper plate, but even this is pretty randomized. I'll assume the UV mapping needs corrections, but I haven't gotten to that point yet.
@@RacingFreak ya I changed the texture completely. I think I reduced the number of digits by one. Essentially the there are 2 sets of texture coordinates and these move up and down the texture sheet. Or that's how I remember it working, it was 18yrs ago 😂
@@RetroGamerBoy That's great to know!! I've always assumed that's how they worked, but could not verify it 😅 I do recall coming across an interesting texture that is probably unused, could be the earlier number plates texture now that I think about it. Man this is some amazing stuff, I am blown away with what have you dug out over years! Incredible job! Those Fords and Bmws should have been there really from beginning... Love this stuff man
the BT van. This was included in the original version of the game for a mission, where you have to steal the depicted BT van and pose as an employee. However, BT did not take kindly to this and the van was subsequently removed in later versions - all games on sale were recalled a month later which makes this a rarity.
Damn, the amount of cut cars in this game is astonishing! My guess they didnt make it either due to licensing issues or it was too much for the ps2 to handle all cars at once.
This game came out when I was around 7 years old, I can't believe I bought this game and knew how to play it until I beat the game, I still have memories of almost every mission.
Interesting that the dashboard in the Aston Martin V8 Vantage is actually a Jensen Interceptor, presumably the Jensen was the direct replacement for the Aston.
After 20 years of lusting on very early previews of The Getaway, this is it. So, the Granada and MK2 Golfs still exist. I can't believe it. And there are some surprises : Voyager, early-80s Transit,... Man, you've done an awesome job. Any plans to release the files, or a modded game ?
Having a trainer that works with all region versions on PCSX2 is my ultimate goal actually, but there are many roadblocks that I have to overcome still. I'm still trying to figure out the best way of doing it properly! In the short term I plan a trainer that allows to do some basic stuff at least. Stay tuned :)
I remember playing The Getaway demo on and Official PlayStation Magazine demo disc, and the Ford Fiesta Police car was in it. I always wondered why the Fiesta was replaced by a Citreon car instead in the final game.
I wanted to drive that Bentley so bad. On the mission where you chase Charlie back to his house I remember looking around for his car. Hoping it would be in the garage
This is great some of these i didn't expect such as the Cortina and the MK2 Transit. I noticed some of the music was beta/demo music and the top gear one for the Golf lol, What were the tracks used for the Cortina and the Granada/Transit, the Jag XJ and the mercs?
Yeah, I kinda mixed up music from both the demo and final altogether. For the Capri I originally prepared The Professionals theme, Cortina, Granada and Transit had Sweeney theme, but all these got copyright claimed by TH-cam :( I ended up using different soundtracks from Japanese series.
Thank you! Not many screenshots of the PSX prototype survive unfortunately. I was able to use some screenshots from magazine scans and other media in a newer video that I've worked on together with Matt and one of the vehicle artists on The Getaway, check it out if you haven't yet! th-cam.com/video/LgsLd58S3wc/w-d-xo.html
@@RacingFreak yes I have checked it out indeed thanks! I have been impressed with your dedication to the game for quite some time, and amazed you could bring those cars to light. Completed it many many times since buying my first copy in 2003. Don't think we'll see an accurate recreation of London in a game with a story line like that again.
@@thebigbowler Thank you! Yeah, it took a lot of years and gradually gaining knowledge to get to this stage. And that's great, hopefully you can complete the game once again after I'm done with bringing the beta cars back to the final game properly! Also, I agree. @@RacingFreak I can't wait to get my hands on that mk2 Transit mate! 😂 That watch dogs doesn't appeal to me, far too arcadey. I don't think realism and attention to detail appeals much to the gaming youth of today. *sigh*
Where did you get the iso from to be able to play this? Every file I've downloaded either doesn't load, or crashes not long after start up. The cars look great, hope there's a way we can use them.
That's because this isn't something that you'll be able to find! After 7 years of researching The Getaway, I am now able to heavily modify the game to load cars from different builds and the previously unspawnable cars as shown in the video. Unfortunately, I've encountered several major roadblocks that I need to overcome in order to publish a stable method of spawning them. Until then, are able to spawn the cars that can be spawned using the guide that I wrote on the TCRF page. Hope that helps! :)
Wow! I didn't know that some of these existed. Some of these look like they were cut late in development as they have detailed interiors (look at the Mulsanne for example). Are you able to spawn in the Audi TT or is that completely gone from game files?
The TT is completely gone, unfortunately :( But I'm still happy as everything else we saw in the early renders, ingame pics and even more is still there :D
Bentley Mulsanne was used in cutscenes because it was Charlie's car. Henry was his driver. That's why it was so detailed. Cut-scene vheicles seemed to be more detailed and it looks like Bentley did have only cut-scene models?
Crappy... c'mon, The Dodge Caravan/Plymouth Voyager/Chrysler Town and Country did everyone a lot of favors since that body style was introduced in 1995. Plus, A cop variant being cut from the game really ticked me off, since that would've been a good patrol car in the poor neighborhoods within London.
It's called "Run for your life" by Christina, the instrumental version. It was apparently from a soundtrack for some late 80's Japanese cop drama (From what I can tell) called "Motto Abunai Deka" It's quite hard to find so I'll link it. th-cam.com/video/_yzKmSKlWoQ/w-d-xo.html
