Totally agree, great points. We love traveling during the off season. We are in Athens right now and it's so great. No lines and no reservations needed! Great video!
Going in about 2 weeks, the forecast shows light rain everyday. We’re taking umbrellas, would you recommend a light rain jacket, thick puffy coat or long wool coat? Afraid we will get too hot but also afraid of being too cold.
I'd bring a light rain shell to put over a sweater for walking around, and a puffy coat since it'll be chilly at night. Don't get too concerned about the forecast. It'll likely show a chance of rain every day all winter, but in reality it might just be a passing overnight shower.
It's likely to drizzle a couple times each week in the winter, but you'll have a great time. Be careful: the stone streets get very slippery. Make sure your shoes have a good grip!
We are planning Dec 17 - Jan 4 Overlapping the christmas holidays. Covering most parts of Southern France Riviera and Northern Italy Lake Como Tuscany Venice etc : Start from Paris - End at Rome. Should we be concerned that it might be 'dark and gloomy' ; Eg. Lake Como looks breathtaking in spring and summer pcitures - wondering how it would be in December ; On the other hand we can experience the Christmas festivities and magic. Comments are welcome.
It's always tough to predict. During that 2-week span, you're likely to have a few cooler rainy days ... especially as you move across Northern Italy. It still sounds like a wonderful trip!
I'll be there the week prior and probably won't bring a wool coat. I usually bring layers, so a few sweaters, plus a puffer coat for warmth, and something that repels rain (even if it's a shell that's easy and small to rollup in your luggage). It also depends on how you handle the cold. I'm used to the heat in Arizona, so someone in a colder climate will likely find Rome's weather in December to be pretty mild.
Heading there in a few days, and packing layers. Sweaters, pants, and bringing a rain shell. It's likely to be in the 50s during the day, and a mix of sun, clouds, and rain.
I think that would be a great time to visit. I understand for the next several months some sites might be closed for renovations, leading up to 2025 Jubilee events. Still, I'd go if given the chance.
I haven't been to Venice in winter (yet). In general, it's much cooler, with highs in the upper 40s. You'll probably have rain and fog some of the days, too. But you'll definitely save on airfare and hotels! And it's truly a beautiful city anytime.
Planning a 2 week trip to Europe from Australia. Was a bit sceptical, but I am confident after watching your video. What countries would you suggest to visit in December with family(2 kids) plz?
Southern Spain is beautiful in December, along with Italy and France. They all have Christmas markets. Barcelona is beautiful in December, and so are Florence and Rome. The small hilltop towns outside the main cities have their own special charm and are worth visiting, too. (Assisi, etc)
Im planning on booking a budget weekend trip, but the Colosseum fast track tickets are almost worth the cost of the plane tickets. Is it necessary for the first two weeks of December?
The lines can get pretty long. I'd go early, as soon as it opens. Otherwise, these skip-the-line tickets are under $50: www.viator.com/tours/Rome/Official-Colosseum-Roman-Forum-and-Palatine-Hill-Tour-in-Rome/d511-15932P15?pid=P00068952&mcid=42383&medium=link

Yes!
