  • I'm reusing some footage from last year that you haven't seen (if you weren't a Patron) while I am in Miami, training on a new aircraft for the airline that I work for.
    Enjoy!

    Excellent landing, and knowing his emergency procedures.

    Just casually reaching over and slowly pulling it idle, hahaha
    My instructor would wait until I wasn't looking and pull it full idle (IE: "clearing turn, check your right , oh no why does your engine die every time we do a clearing turn?")

    I taught that Turnback to many. At 01:27 After pushing nose down and start The Turnback 1-change tanks 2-lean the mixture a bit on the 45 degree banking. By leaning forward to do those changes they sort of avoid pulling back too much elevator and stall the airplane while doing something to bring engine back.

    Good video and good reminder. I actually experienced a real-life engine out shortly after take-off. Very little time for checklist.

    Crazy how chilled and relaxed civilian flying is compared to military.

    Last time I was this early, the engine was still running

    That was over 1,000 feet agl. EFATO. Yes you can try to restart the engine. Change tanks, fuel pump, lean mixture and carb heat on. Do it in that sequence. You get used to do that sequence if you do on every run up. I taught those EFATO turnbacks in my CFI years.

    Experienced this on my last flight with my CFI. Unannounced, by surprise. I was not as collected as he was. Immediately trading excess airspeed for altitude when the engine goes out was the big takeaway. Much was learned in that 2-3 minutes of duress.

    At 500 on take-off could the pa28-140 return to the field properly trimed noise down?I've tried it and it drops like a rock

    • @LewDixAviation
      @LewDixAviation  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s a tough ask. I personally wouldn’t try a turn back below 1,000 feet. Maybe to a crossing runway which I’ve managed to do in a PA28-151.
