    ALPs must have better coverage than I was thinking. Some of those locations seem too high or too low to protect the whole car. It will be interesting to see the placement and testing.

    At 9:36 you said there’s also a “standard 12 Volt car battery”.
    Does this 12V battery also get charged when the EV9 is, (plugged in, and charging in your garage)?
    If so, is there a standard 12V power port that remains on, when the EV9 is, (plugged in, and charging in your garage)?
    If so, you could install the PowerCell 8 dash cam battery pack with an XT60 splitter, (male to two female).
    One female XT60 input will be connected by regular hardwire method.
    The other female XT60 input will be connected by the included CLA charger.
    Example of operation:
    When the wife comes home, and parks in the garage she will;
    1.) Shut off the EV9
    2.) Plug in PowerCell 8 CLA charger
    3.) Exit the EV9, then plug in the “main” EV9 home charger.
    4.) Upon departure the next day, unplug the EV9 “main” home charger
    5.) Enter EV9, unplug PC8 CLA charger, and drive off.
    Actually that won’t work, it’s too many steps.
    Also the CLA charge method is only 5 Amp capable so you could never utilize the full 10 Amp charge capability.

    I have an EV6 with a Blackvue 900x Plus + Battery hardwired. It does not switch from parking to driving mode when charging the car unless you turn on accessory. EV9 looks great!

    • @VortexRadar
      @VortexRadar  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Glad to hear it's working well! I assume that charging the main battery doesn't also charge the 12v battery too though so that'd have to recharge like normal once you resume driving. How do you like your EV6?

    • @darrengravitt
      @darrengravitt 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I also have a EV6 GT Line and I absolutely love it. I get asked all the time if I like it or if I would buy it again. I tell every single person that I would again and again. I test drove the EV9 when I took the car in for its regular service, man oh man what a nice ride. Trying to talk the wife into getting that for herself. Congratulations on getting the new ride. Can't wait to see everything you do and watching the installs.

      @@VortexRadar The Hyundai/Kia EVs will charge the 12V battery from the High Voltage Traction battery automatically and you will see orange light on the dash under the window come on to indicate that it is charging.
      I'm thinking if you are leaving the charging cable connected to the car at home while on week long vacation, etc it may allow continuous parking recording in your driveway if the HV battery charges the 12V battery that way and then the Powercell 8 goes off the 12V. Be curuious to see if you can test that to see if it would allow the battery to stay charged and allow continuous camera usage which would be an advantage over a gas setup if that's the case since the car can be plugged in the wall all the time.
      There is a slew of 12V battery issues that EV9 owners are experiencing currently and apparently a software fix may be on the way but people have been avoiding using Kia Connect, Finger Printer reader and the Digital Key 2 to avoid waking up the car running on 12V battery at that time until Kia comes out with a fix. The Kia EV6, Hyundai Ioniq5 and maybe Ioniiq 6 had battery issues as well and was fixed in time for the most part. Stay tuned on that.

    Its a great EV...It will take some time to adjust to owning an EV but you will love it. I know you have lots to learn as its new but one comment on charging. If you have off peak rates their, make sure you set your charging to when that is, ex. 2am say. This will save you more money. That rear is going to be interesting to set up parking sensors, I will be watching to see what the installers do as its still a new car to them too. Congrats again!

    The EV9 should charge up the 12V battery from the main HV battery. It should have a yellow light that illuminates on top of the dash when the 12V is being topped up just the same way my EV6 tops up my 12V. Please advise if your charging light turns on so that works for you as I should be receiving a new EV9 in a few weeks time and would like to add a dashcam.

      @@VortexRadar, so does one require a supplemental 12V battery or should one just power from the OEM 12V and use the huge (99Kwh) HV battery to support long duration (2-3 weeks) parking mode without any concern?

    • @VortexRadar
      @VortexRadar  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I haven’t hardwired yet. The light comes on regardless. Once I get it installed, we’ll see how long it lasts. From what I understand there’s a limit to how many times it’ll recharge the 12v battery per time you park so we’ll have to see how well everything works.
      There’s no way I’ve seen to tap into the EV battery directly.

    • @bobstevenson4396
      @bobstevenson4396 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I assume one should just connect to the 12V battery and not worry. I have not heard there is limit to the number of times the HV battery can charge the 12V, in the next few days I should try to check with the OBD2 & CarScanner how much power the 12V draws and how it’s output voltage varies.

    FYI there are vids out there on TH-cam on a story from multiple people with the Hyundai equivalent of this vehicle where they ran over something in the road, basically just scratched the protection plate underneath and the dealer just saying the entire battery needs to be replaced at a cost of like 50-60k(price from Hyundai). Which of course they ended up just totalling the vehicle out. So be careful what you run over on the road with this car.

    • @VortexRadar
      @VortexRadar  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah I saw that too. There’s also issues of 12v battery drain to where your car can’t start next time, particularly when using your phone as a key. Always helpful to know what to look out for so hopefully we can avoid some of the pitfalls. :)

    I wouldn't have expected a Kia out of everything. I'm personally not a fan of EVs because of all the resources it takes to even make the battery. I'd never consider one because of the road trip I'd take it would just make it so inconvenient to stop and charge vs gas just takes 5 mins to fill and you're back on the road. Replacement batteries also seem to be astronomical in terms of cost. Either way I'm looking forward to the content with this car

      @m2onen89 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Having driven the Kia EV9, I can say it is awesome car. Better to buy a car than a brand perception!
      Your comment on the "resources it takes" is funny, as the alternative is a gasoline car, which is consuming resources at far higher rate than EVs. That is the whole point of electrifying the passenger car base - to save resources.
      That said, no car is environmentally friendly - they all have a large footprint on environment, but if the choice is between an EV and ICE, the former will only need like 10% of its lifetime to beat the latter in the burden it causes to the environment. At the time of manufacturing, EVs have still larger footprint, but this situation changes soon during the lifecycle of the vehicles.
      And even battery tech is evolving to even more environmentally friendly battery chemistries, making EVs even clearer winner vs. gas cars in sustainability point of view. The new LFP batteries, which will be the fastest growing battery type in the next years, won't even contain any cobalt or nickel.
      You're welcome.

      Funny my wife doesn't even get why I have a radar detector and has no interest in having one in her car - but it's actually bloody useful even when you are sticking to or close to posted speed limits. Where I live, the police have gotten so speed focused that doing even a couple of miles an hour over the posted limit can get you pulled over, a lecture, a ticket, and demerit points - so having one is just protection against excessive irrational policing.

I rarely need to charge at home, but when I do, that is free too since I can charge from my solar.
