Humbrol have been a modelling paint in the UK since the early 1900s they were bought out several times. They were owned by Airfix a plastic model kit company and later Hornby Models, and often sold with the kits. At this point they were only enamels, that came in tiny little metal pots. never tried their acrylic range.
I've used a number of Humbrol paints and would generally say they're quite good, although some colours are definitely better than others and my only point of comparison would be Citadel paints. I would only say their colour range isn't that vibrant because they largely target train and ww2 military colours. On them not mixing very well, there should be a ball inside so they can mixed by hand rather easily by shaking the bottle. On the paints being glossy, Humbrol sells matt, satin, gloss and metallic ranges of paints, so I suspect you picked up some gloss colours(including colours 3 and 4?) and one matt(42?). Anyway, this was a good video
Cheers mate yeah I want to try out a bit more of the Humbrol paints, they've been around for ever so I'd say they must know what they're doing. I think the store I got them was not so much into the hobby stuff so the paints might have been on the racks for ages. I've been using the purple quite a bit recently and quite liking it
Thanks mate. I've never tried any enamels, they kinda scare me to use a bit. We have so much cross over with art supplies and modelling supplies, I'm going to keep trying random goodies like this out
Aww beans... These look great, but it looks like they are impossible to find here in Canada. Guess I'll add it to the "nice things Canadians can't get easily" list next to Tim Tams and P3 Paints.
Haha yeah I feel the same way about some of the cool American hobby products I struggle to get here. There is only like one place that sells monument hobbies paints here. Cheers for watching mate
I knew it would be Humbrol when you said it was a British company that'd been around for decades... Purely because that's _THE ONLY_ British company that I know of! 😆🤔🙁
I've not seen Humbrol enamels, interesting. Have you had much of a chance to play with Foundry Paints? I really regret not buying a stack of them when I was in the UK a few years back.
Yeah this was the very first time I've seen these humbrol acrylics, just wandered into model train store and they were there. I've not tried the foundry paints yet but I'm on a mission to try new paints when I find them. I've recently gotten into monument hobbies pro acryl paints and they are great. Cheers for watching mate
Entertaining Video! I live in Germany and we don’t have this brand here. But it is kind of similar here with Revell. They are really big for model planes and cars but the mini sphere not so much. They also come in pots and are rather expensive too. Perhaps that’s the reason 😉
Yeah humbrol is very much a model train set or model ship sort of company. A lot of the colours in their range seem to be exact colours for trains. It is weird that the products are almost exactly the same but there isn't much crossover between miniatures and models ship/plane
Davey, I'm thinking about getting into the warhammers. What is some sage advice you can give a complete beginner, that doesn't want to become immediately disillusioned with complexity of detail in models? Cheers Mate!
Haha ah I don't know if I have any sage advice, I'm not wise enough. I would say with tiny details just try to not stress when you make little mistakes. And also importantly, put the mini down on the table at arms length, can you really notice the little detail/mistake? Probably not for most of them. Thanks for watching mate :)
Hi Jim, The best advice I can give you is to concentrate on getting a tidy finish on your models. Don't go make yourself crazy by adding highlights etc a nice neat finish is an acceptable target for newcomers to aim for. Once you get the hang of it then you'll find that you'll get ideas on how to take your painting to the next level and you'll gradually add new techniques. Good luck.
I really like the vibrancy of the colors, but I can't stand paints that go on glossy. Makes the models look wet. Probably easy to fix with a matte coat
Yeah a matte coat would probably fix them, I've fixed some other glossy coat before with matte varnish. Since making the vid I've only really used the purple as it was my favourite, I'm not sure if I'll keep using the blue and green. I can't find that fluro colour, it might have found it's way to the bin haha it was pretty stuffed

They have quite a history, so much longer than Warhammer. The bottles say the paints are made here in the UK which is good to see.

Great video, yeh, we see some modelling brands cross over like Mig and Tamiya I have some humbrol enamels I want to try at some point too

I have only ever heard of their enamel range. Interesting.
Yeah it was a total surprise to me as well

Haha yep I can't think of many others, GW is it really and they won't do dropper bottles as we all know
I've not seen Humbrol enamels, interesting. Have you had much of a chance to play with Foundry Paints? I really regret not buying a stack of them when I was in the UK a few years back.

I had never heard of humbrol acrylics before, interesting stuff. Whats the price range on them?
The official price is 2.49 (pounds) for 14ml but I think I got mine at the shop for closer to 2 quid each
Love the video! But fluro is not a colour 🤔
Haha yeah I'm not very knowledgeable with the proper lingo, whatever that colour was though it didn't work very well
Hahaha WHAT?! Humbrol?!!!
Yeah good old model train humbrol. I just used the purple today and it was lovely for some cloth on my young lacroix
