I'm still driving to the Arctic from the UK (despite the danger) - Part 2

- So in episode 1 of this epic van life road trip to the Arctic, there was a huge disaster. My heating system had an issue and stopped working! Which is not what you want in the Arctic circle!
I nearly turned around and came home, but it has started working again for now. So I've made the decision to continue on, and take my self built camper van all the way to the arctic! The road trip will go on!
To me, this is van life on a whole new level, and it's certainly a road trip that I won't forget. Let's hope things go smoothly from now on!

Your Tinder plan is, frankly, a work of genius - however the post office already has a system for this - "Poste Restante", select any post office in the world (almost) send your package to that post office, and then rock up with some ID, and collect it. They usually hold stuff for a couple of weeks. Excellent episode, already want to watch the next one!
You look like a jigsaw puzzle that’s been put together wrong = me spitting out my coffee haha
Haha! The editing on rolling open that map with the"Aaahs"was so funny!Nice one!😂
I have to say the last video was a bit of a cliffhanger, so I am glad to see the new upload! No matter what you say it is always hilarious and well put together. Long live the Pigeon
You need to buy tire chains and learn how to put them on when you get to Alaska.
Yes! I live in Finland and we use spiked tires, but I do not even dream about driving in Norway on some places in winter time. Summer time dirven about 20 times there south to north from beginning on the 1980's with van and later in camper too!
Alaska? That’s a fair trip… 😂
Tip is biltema when you arrive in Norway and Sweden they have everything for home and cars
Nothing like a good bifi in the morning 💨
A small wood oven install would have been a great addition for a trip like this
Too many of your carbons in a small space for a wood burner.
Yep there's loads of trees up there 😂😂😂
I thought Wood stove too....many do
Wood burner ??????
Cant see Adam getting his hands dirty, eats hula hoops with a fork, van looks great , always kept in suspense Adam
😂
Get ya camera out on your phone use the translation feature most new phones have it
You got to have some emergency heater there because you may stuck in some place for days at -20 to -30 and it is the end then! Cold kills you know!
Glad i found this channel! love the humor and the build / trip. Be safe!
A Hot water bottle is a good addition. This is a great vlog, best of luck getting to the Arctic. At least you won't freeze your socks off 😅
Haha no but I may boil my socks off!
You had scissors in the draw, you could've cut that pizza with those. Heated socks? Genius. As the old saying goes, all you need to survive the arctic is a good set of heated socks. Good work. Looking forward to the next one. 👍
Wow look at how big the UK is on that map, brave man
"its all in foreign' is the most British blokism ever, I love it. what a find too, only 50k!
Screw in studs can be bought all over Norway.. But the would not help much if your BFG's are old. With fresh tyres (0 to 3 years old) your BFG's should cope, except for wet or black ice. Just stay parked if it get bad.
Agreed - we have been travelling in Sweden
Good luck going forward let’s hope your truma doesn’t become a Traumatic Experience!!
Drove my Sprinter to Kiruna in Sweden in January on Summer tyres, dropped down to Pajala for 17 months, van was awesome the whole time above the Arctic Circle, never put a foot wrong.
If I was in charge at Truma, I'd send out a tech out to you despite being on the continent.
Imagine the kudos they'd get for that...
Met some girls from Bergen in Crete and have been over to see them a few times (in a plane). You can't go out and get even slightly drunk without emptying your bank account but it's a lovely place. Was over there one Christmas and drove to Voss in the snow with studded winter tyres, they work a treat, never left the road and flipped the car over once.
I spent years driving trucks and buses into Norway , Sweden and Finland on mud n snow tyres and using snow chains when needed . Studded tyres are great if you live there all year round but snow chains are fine for occasional use . Fitted studs are just easier than fitting chains...but not necessarily better
Safe travel Adz 🚍luv the heated socks 🧦 🤣
Safe travels Adz ❤
its all coming together nicely mate! Looking forward to the rest of your adventure :)
So looking forward to this journey Adz! Another fab video sir
Safe travels Adz it’s getting close now!! Hope that bloody heater holds up!! 🙄 xxx
Brilliant news and nice upload roll on next weeks video, can’t blummin wait
Top work Adz lad ❤
Great vid! Stay safe ❤
Love this, great content. Deserves a really big 👍🏽
Thanks!
Its all getting rather exciting now. 👍
In the late 90s I went to the arctic in a 1972 Range Rover, without a proper heater and no extra heater. Slept on the most northerly Finnish?Russian border crossing, -35c and is was cold but fine in my sub-zero bag. So don't worry you will be fine, people live up there and you are young and fit.
You can get spikes in any tractor store in Norway. But those all terrain are bad on snow and ice . From old Norwegian
Best vinter tire is Nokia hakkepeilita
I've been waiting for this 😅🔥🔥🔥
Cool video Adz, nice to see your progress. Views will only get better the further north you go.
Good for you stay safe and warm
This is brilliant. Can’t wait for the next one👍
This is my favourite TH-cam channel good luck with all your travels

Been enjoying watching your adventures and build and looking forward to the artic adve 2:26 nture. A question for you though as we are currently building a van... where did you get your wall and roof lining... we love it ❤
They ask you questions like " have you had a breakfast bifi?
Hi how are you doing
Big up from NYC
Keep up the great work and hope you're in the Arctic soon.
With heating working and studs in tyres, and maybe a new GF.
Good luck mate.
Point your Google translate app with camera and it'll translate all writing on signs and everything.
Brilliant content mate
Might be worth looking at a diesel heater adz and just use the trummer for hot water only just least still get fixed but least you have a back up heater if the diesel heater stops working
Man just found your channel and watched part 1 an now 2 looks like your on a great adventure will definitely be watching more and that camper van looks cool as balls very smart really good to see a young man living life to the full nice one for bringing us all along on your amazing road trip good luck with it all 🚙👊✌
Top notch storytelling flow and editing! Amazing seeing these skills improving with each episode.
Hyped for the next one! Stay safe
Thank you! It’s appreciated!
Maybe try speaking to true blue travellers are in the Arctic at the moment they didn’t seem to have any studs on the tires just had chains occasionally
I have a wood burner and a diesel heater, always need a backup option, just come back from -10 in Scotland no probs 😊
Tinder plan is perfect. But I’d still be waiting for a right swipe and missed winter not just the boat!
😂😂😂😂 only 1 way to find out mate!
i like the tone of your voice on these arctic vids. its very atenborough
If you take off the cover on the Truma boiler there is a red reset button press this for a few seconds until the green light starts to blink.
Yeah that only works when it’s flashing a certain colour (red I think) but I wasn’t able to do that though unfortunately mate. I did reset through the panel but it doesn’t usually help
I meant to comment on your previous video. If you measure voltage at the heater with it switched off then you will get the same voltage as you have at the battery……even if you had tiny cables.
To correctly measure you needed to connect your multimeter and measure the voltage as it starts up and tries to ignite. That is when you will see the maximum voltage drop
Yeah I know mate. But it doesn’t even try to start with errors there so I was just checking for continuity
Your vlogs just get better and better! Loving this series already 😁 Also that bird was cool, I'm assuming a type of Heron!
Superb content Adz 👌
Thank you!
Great Video, inspiring me to hit the road.
Amazing content
just wanna say.... excellent use of tinder... well played mate, well played indeed.
Looking forward to seeing you walk out into the snow in just your socks.. .. .. 🙃😜
-
(I may have missed the bit about the heating not working 😉)
I also have the seal skin socks!
@@Adz Seal skin socks are amazing ❣
You will be safe as houses with them socks just take a hot water bottle as a backup :)
Love the vids 👍 would an electric heater be worth grabbing as an emergency backup? Safe travels
Hi matey be careful out there see you in the next one 👍
I am loving this episode Ads! "The devils snooker balls" had me in stitches!! 🤣
Not sure why but people in vans always park so close to vans, always spooks me out when I am out in my van! More so when you're in a foreign country.
Looking forward to the next one!! :)
Thanks :) and those little red balls of hell are definitely the work of the devil!
Love the vids
Question is that an induction hob if so can i ask what make and what power draw it has thanks 👍
Has truma not got any dealers that can fit a new heater ? Drive safe pal & keep warm
What possibly go wrong the comment of the year
I live in Norway... Have same tires as you and trust me you dont need anything more...
Great video as always and love the build. Can I ask how are you getting on with the Fogstar I have just bought one myself
Yeah I love mine! And thanks!
Heated socks eh? You know what that mean buddy, one warm hand shared for 5 mins per hand and one toasty warm knob with the other 😂😂
Hi I’ve just started watching your channel and vids are great can I ask where you got your thermal blinds for the cab etc from and have you done a video on cheers
Thanks! There’s a link in the description of my build video (the one from the end of January)
Love the humour
Currently loving this ... I'm heading to Switzerland in Aug ... just worried about driving on right hand side of the road
It’ll be fine everyone else will be doing it too 👍🏻🇬🇧
You’ve achieved loads in the time you have geezer, your living a dream that some would love to do too, good luck pal and keep them vids coming 👌🏼👌🏼😜🤞be save 🙌 make sure you wash those fingers before seeing ya tinder dates 😂🫣
Thanks mate!
Before you commit yourself to tyre studs check the legal situation in each country you intend to use them in, some countries prohibit them completely, others charge you (for the damage they cause to the roads) Also, tyre studs are only great in some situations, absolutely fantastic in hard ice, next to useless in soft snow, I can assure you from plenty of experience. I think you best bet would be tyre chains, modern ones are not too hard to fit and also work just as well in mud. A friend from the UK fitted tyre studs when driving to Austria for a skiing trip, he ended up sitting on the side of the road for almost a day at a customs control struggling to remove them all before they would let him enter the (I can't recall which) country. Ended up with very sore hands and freezing cold
I have driven to Norway twice, once in a converted ambulance, and multiple times to Northern Italy and Austria in winter, only rarely having to resort to chains when there was fresh (soft and relatively warm) snow crossing mountain passes. Snow and ice is surprisingly grippy when it is well below freezing
I’ve had chains for months now but I prefer these studs. And yeah checked where to use them and where not to
You can do it! 🍻😁👍
Where did you get the hexagon fabric you used on the walls is it swade looks good love the van build and carnt wait to do this trip next year
Got it from someone over a year ago. Some is a soft material and some is a fake leather. And thank you!
Good show mate 👍🐕🚐👊
Legend all I can say 🐐 of shipping 😂😂
Heehee u be alrite my bro... bring it on!.
Awesome series mate!! Loving your ingenuity....especially Tinder delivery service!! Keep it up!!
Thank you mate!
What a boy!
Awesome video again mate, can’t wait for the rest of the trip 👌🏻 I’m gonna have to get some of those heated socks, was -1 inside my van the other week 😂😂
Thanks mate! Yeah they’ve gotta be a part of every van lifers cupboard I reckon 😂
PMSL @ the ending Adz. 🤣😂🤣😂 Cannot wait to discover how this turns out 🤔😁 If things get really bad, you could always put one of those socks .... all the best, bacon butty woman 😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁
Ahhh I could do with a bacon butty right now!! Haha thanks!!
We got a Knaus campervan last year.. the Truma was coming and going, coming and going… completely impossible to understand anything at all.. looks like your problems actually.. In the end, the dealer replaced the circuitboard and looks like it is ok now.. No need for you to turn back, there are a lot of places where you should be able to get help in Norway if you are unable to solve the problem.
Great stuff, where did you get the cab thermal divider curtain from please, the van is looking proper snug now for the cold,.?
There’s a link in the description of the build video mate
@@Adz ok thanks think I've asked before but was side tracked after, thanks for replying and looking forward to the next part,.
Consider a small gas heater using the replaceable cartridges. Carry enough cartridges for 48 hours use of heater.
Those gas cartridges dont work minus 0, better to install a diesel heater that works even in the coldest temperatures!
I have 450g cylinders bought in Sweden that are a butane-propane mix and so designed to operate at sub zero temps. Diesel heaters are good but if you are going to the Arctic where temps are below -25 I would strongly urge you to have a second source of heat in case the diesel heater stops working and you are remote, which is most places in Norway/Sweden!
Biffi? Wait till you get to Norway and enjoy a Plopp!
Have you Measured voltage on the in + terminal on the truma ? Mabye there is a voltage drop ?
As long as you have winter tires and stay on main roads you’ll be fine. I live in Bergen centrum by aquarium so you can send to my address. I also got tools and we could look at Truma too. Also we have electronics store here.
Yeah we’ve tested everything we can at this stage. Thanks though!
Worst case get one of those buddy heaters that operate with butane
This is hilarious.. He is having a party..Arctic can wait. Hahaha
Glad to see you've cracked on 💪
You should get everything you need in Norway. A portable heater may be the answer?
Thanks for me Sunday giggles 😂
Also check out True Blue Travellers (I think)
They're just on their way back from the Artic, for some good tips, and for places to visit
As always another great episode Adam. Iv seen it all now, using tinder to get a delivery 😂😂😂. Well that’s what you tell us. Maxx
It’s a good idea! Haha
You should be on the stage Adz 🤣
Use the old cable to pull the new cable
I'd love to have that cup haha
