chilling with your small daughter and eating pizza after a hard day in the saddle has got to be a great reward for all the effort you put in - well done
For the first 14-15 years of my life I hated cycling... This changed within one week after I got a better bike from my older brother. It's incredible how much of a difference a bad bike can make. Ever since then I loved cycling and now own a Hardtail MTB and a Gravel bike, ride 4000km per year (if I'm not injured) and have so much fun while doing it. I wi certainly make sure my future kids get food bikes.
I’d love more bike x family content - there is hardly anyone talking about this aspect. Full-time cyclist dudes without kids make it all look much easier than it really is *for parents Dad to a 2yr old here
That's how we taught them to ride with Bike NY. First "people steps," L, R, L, R. Then "kangaroo steps" pushing with both feet so they take longer time with feet off the ground. The early rider pedal bike also would look pretty cool mounted on the wall when she outgrows it.
I'd agree that the balance bike is the best way to start. It took our son only a few minutes when he decided he wanted to ride a pedal bike to be able to get along just fine
I’ve used like-a-bike wooden balance bikes to great success. They are a great company and two of my kids have had them and they are wonderful. Just a note!
for us, at the moment all we have is a cruiser bike and a rear seat. Our little one is only 2.5 and she love going on rides with us, which we do at least a few times per week, I'm hoping we can do more and get her into riding herself soon!
Simply precious! I hope you make certain to keep this video so that your daughter can watch years on. I loved the part where you were riding with her on the Mac-Ride seat. The looks on your faces was priceless. My children are all adults, but when grand babies come along I'll have some great info to draw upon. Thanks!
We also have a single trailer for over 6 years with the second child riding it now. Soon it will be to small and too boring for her (age 3,5) but until then it was worth every Euro we spent on it. It just is the most fun that you can ride almost everywhere where your handlebars fit without worrying too much that the trailer makes some unwanted contact and aren't limited to streets or gravelroads. As you said it handles very well, you just have to think of the increase in brake distance. The downside however is that you cannot fit much stuff in there. For kids pedal bikes we went with woombikes beginning with 2 and now model 5 for the oldest daughter. There are also really light which makes the key difference for kids.
my little guy rides a Strider.... also a great one. also was able to go up to a 14" with pedals and he just rode right off no problem. he started pedaling on his fourth b-day. he'll do 6miles on that little thing and single track.
Great video, and super helpful. Totally agree the early rider pedal bike is brilliant. Our little girl did the same thing. Wasn't interested in the Smyth's bike but now I can't get her off the early rider. Loads of great info in there thanks 👍...now. Where's my credit card!?
This video bring me memory from you video where you got children seat on bike and you have fun with riding with familyl I watched that video several times.
sounds like good quality bikes she could be a future MTN.I see a lot the trail blazer style bars in our area on the greenway. This week the sun will going to return. This week we are going to ride to the mill pub do some beers and great food.Cheers🇨🇦🚲
Same here for the early rider balance bike and belter. My son got the 14" balance bike with drop bar and I always get asked by other parents: where did you get that balance bike? It's amazing! He got the belter 16" as soon as he started coasting and was looking for more adventurous rides (pump track with a balance bike is fun too). It took him literally 20 Minutes and then he could ride a bicycle.
So many options available! We used the rear seat for our kids... pro... they can fall asleep in it... cons... they get to look at my back a lot. Then we had a "third wheel" type trailer bike (with a good set of gears) Advantage it is more secure and sits more upright than the trail gators... disadvantage... that is it, you can't take it to a park and ride it separately. If I was going to change anything I would add a front seat to the mix I think.
Great video. We’ve got a weehoo which is great, but hella long and a bit of a nightmare on tight turns and narrow bridges.. you really notice the weight on Cornish hills too! Great shoutout for Hope Academy.. definitely gonna check that out. Cheers!
Allround supernice video! Especially loved the ramdom comment about eventually needing another kid because of the spare pads once your daughter hast grown of them ;)
Our daughter is 31 years old and even though she’s 5‘2“ tall, the items you showed are still too big for her. Kidding aside, there will likely be a grandchild in the not too distant future and the suggestions and input from your video was handy info. I’ve seen children on and in all the items you showed, but never really reviewed any information regarding same. Thanks. Lastly, your daughter was a demon rider on that trail.
Anyone else used the trail gaiter find that the U bolts cause damage to the bike frame? I used one for my first boy and found, after removing the bracket, that the U Bolts over time had cut through the paint work and worn into the steel frame. I was so pleased to spot this before upgrading his bike as I wouldn't put it on an alloy frame incase it did the same.
the trailer you have cant roll over. with kids in trailers the chance of roll over in other types can be high. a single seat two wheeled kids trailer will roll over super easy
Great choice of kids' kit! Pleasure to watch (as always). Though better imo than the tagalong pole is the followme tandem coupler. Again, not cheap, but no weight added on the child's bike. 4kg, attached to your QR skewers (haven't checked since what you do with TAs) and when the kid rides on their own, the coupler also folds up to your saddle or rear rack. Downside: kids can't steer, hence called tandem, but there you go. >> Daft video, but you get the jist: th-cam.com/video/LXhlF-HYeGI/w-d-xo.html

Just found your channel and binge watching all the videos. Absolutely love your attitude, and you've gotten me back into road cycling, Thanks!
You daughter is so CUTE & ADORABLE.

What an excellent presentation. I see so little information about gear and kit for kids.

Frog bikes are also amazing, I opted for one because even the small ones come with brakes

Beautiful family!
Thanks so much for posting this, loads of useful information! I hope you can squeeze in an update or two as you daughter grows and the kit does too.
I need footage of Daves face at the very moment you blurted out "-maybe we need another kid?"....:) (oh, yea...almost forgot...MORE CATS!)

good video! Thanks...there's got to be a million cycling parents out there that need this. Wish I had it.

Purchasing an Earlyrider trail 14 right now!

I've just ordered my 2.5 year old daughter a balance bike, should be here tomorrow!
Macride is ordered thanks my 2 year old will love it.
Allround supernice video!

epic info!! Thankyou
Hi, great video, perfect for my son. Out of interest, what shorts are you wearing in your first thumbnail, my wife is after a pair just like them :)
for the front seat, if you had a specific MTB for that job, I wonder if pedal extenders would help.

U must be the coolest mum ever!

can an adult ride that pedal bike with belt drive? Looks fun, so adults want a go on it. Please do a video of an adult trying it 🙌👍
Great informative vlog, unfortunately your just 20 years too late for my little one 😋
I'm certain it will offer value to the intended audience. 👍
Good info for grand kids should that occur... ? You can be the cool and slightly scary grand parent!
We rent our kids bikes from the bike club. Renting is definitely the way to go
don't have this but am very interested in purchasing ...
Great info! How old was she when she started out on the balance bike?
18 months or so!
@@JulietElliottsChannel nice! I have a 3y old still trying to get the hang of the general idea of the bike.
We have the same sofa :)
the trailer you have cant roll over. with kids in trailers the chance of roll over in other types can be high. a single seat two wheeled kids trailer will roll over super easy
Compare weight of that balance bike with Cruzee. The latter's only 2kg!
When they get a bit bigger, head over to Kidsracing.co.uk currently keeping me poor with kit for my 9 year old.
