Todd Edwards is well known for his hypnotic collage of cut-up samples over swing house beats and extremely juicy, disco-flavored bass lines.
Over the years, Edwards has remixed Moloko, Justice, Phoenix, St. Germain, Klaxons, and even Boris, amongst numerous others and he co-produced and sang on Daft Punk’s “Face To Face,” from their milestone 2001 album Discovery.

Credited as one of the godfathers of UK garage, his four to the floor beats have won him a passionate fan base in Europe. Todd’s trademark sound on his early releases on NYC house labels like i! Records and Nervous quickly cemented his status in underground dance music circles across the pond, in the time before London’s 2-step sound had morphed into grime.

I'll never forget that night in romford ❤ 👑🇺🇲🏴
everyone needs to listen to Todd Edwards
Yes, they do...he ain’t no ‘Accident’!
Hell no listen to the original Godfather MK
@@sethaguilar8330don’t ever put MK in the same conversation as Todd Edwards.
Can't ever be overstated how influential this man's music was. I remember hearing Winter Behaviour on an Upfront FM pirate tape somewhere around '96 & being mesmerized. Didn't know who it was by or what it was called, just knew I never heard anything like it. Old but futuristic. Undefinable but undeniable. Like something from another dimension visited for a moment, left a glitch in the matrix, then left. Wore that tape out. That was the beauty of it all though. Transience. Instant nostalgia and endless quests chasing that lost holy grail. Way before Discogs gave us the map. When all you had was obsession, memory and a walkman to light the way and a weekly paycheck to sacrifice.. this man was the legend (in the truest sense of that word) that inspired a thousand quests, no doubt helping to lift a few of us up out of the darkness on the way, me included.
Forget Matthew, Mark, Luke & John.. the book was written by Todd.
Originator! Salute🙏
absolute don, master of the garage sound.. nobody does it like jersey
god bless todd
todd the godd
NJ ALL DAY!
Stole black gay music from New Jersey and turned it white British christian and straight let me say "straight"
Aah!! The DJ EJ shout! Love to see him getting respect from another legend
Todd hit in on the head she really does have some of the interviews hands down
Crazy he learned to make music in 2 years. I'll have to do it for 10+year to make anything one fifth as good as his first release. :(
Got it or you dont hahah jokes keep going on only the greatest last the test of time!
Wonderful interview, really good interviewer too, did the research, asked the right questions and, most importantly, let him speak!
Big up macarite

One of the absolute top men in house & garage. Not only for his contribution towards UKG but also his contribution towards the #DaftPunk legacy (co-writing/singing on 2 of their best tracks) alongside an honesty and genuine approach. HUGE fan! Todd the god!!
I love how he pronounces it "gar-ridge" and not "gah-rahj" - that show the influence the UK's had on him
what a guy, humble and genius. big up Todd! uk g inventor
One of the best DJ/Producer interviews ever. Thank you. I guess Todd may have felt felt relaxed because he knew he was genuinely appreciated in the UK?
This is an absolute tour de force and in how to conduct an interview. Brilliant questions brilliant subject matter in Todd’s music! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Love Todd , as a DJ from 1985 onwards. And someone who played underground house , that sound came from eric Perez , me did mixes that were called medtalizm dubs and that was the first time I, d heard a producer constantly use Skippy beats , I fell in love with the sound , Todd's remix of Roxi ride committee , Accident was a ground breaking track and I'd up there for me as one of Todd's best tunes .
Very unusual sounds and harmonies mixed with a raw funky beat - all sounding very different but you KNOW it's a Todd Edwards
He is so talented but also a genuine and kind person.
I never new you were American, jeeze, i know your music inside out, got me tru soo much, this is crazy, sose it doesnt matter, you bought love an healing. One of da most amazing interviews iv watched, intetviewer, was 101 ace,

You can tell from his music and interview that Todd has a grounding in music
42:16 awwww man he is so….. great, a genius and cute omg
Great insight into Todd’s background and credit to the interviewer for asking original questions (especially regarding the possible spirituality - house music connection). Just a shame his tunes were edited out!
House music is Black Gay African American music derived from African drums
All dance music is derived from Africa
everything is derived from Africa
Always loved the positive vibes in Todd's productions. So many great tracks too - bundles of bangers
swear down he s american i never knew and i've heard his records since i was a kid. he had such an influence on music in my city its mad
iinteresting, was there lots of 2step in your city?
I always assumed he must have been English as he style was that of the time in the 90s 😮
@@karenwilliams9811he's the one that influenced uk gargae
Da God
This man, Booker T and Tuff Jam music is the perfect summertime vibes
this is a most excellent interview! who is the interviewer??
Emma Warens
Been addicted since i stumbled upon the Locked on inside the mix CD in about 96..
glad this exists
Absolute Legend 🙏🏽
Insights from a legend during a unique time and music scene. Great interview too
thanks a lot
i miss the original post where music was played
What a treat, great talk!
Bassline king
I wish more people would respect House like the interviewer. I hated 'UK garage' with a passion but loved Todd's music from the start.
That a massively influential musician such as Todd Edwards has to take a 9-5 job rather than do music just tells you that the industry is very fucked up. Artists aren't being paid enough for their work, and Spotify is legitimising that.
This was a different time, and he was also in a very niche genre, and still is. He himself did say that it shouldn't be about the money, though I do agree that it feels unfair that he had to do that. At the same time, he keeps getting pulled in again and again and I feel like that's something that music does.

Fantastic 🤘🏽🦞❤️
Great interview, I enjoyed this
The OG 100
he a genius
Fantastic interview. Better than Hot Ones, better than Joe Rogan, better than How I Built This
Why are the music parts cut out on here 😢
Where’s the music? Why was it edited out?
Todd is really dropping some spiritual gems in this interview.
Tracks are edited out to keep this video on youtube because they're copyrighted
@@largonius That doesn’t fully make sense. The artist himself is in the video. 🤔
@@boydmanuel9257 unfortunately it’s likely that Todd’s music is actually owned by various record labels, and those labels would have to license/give permission to this TH-cam channel (that’s unlikely to happen without payment).
Nice
"Did you say 'a door'?" LOLz the typical phantom British 'R'
43:17
That Red Bull structure behind them is triggering my trypophobia
Who is doing the interview?
1:05:30
Presume it’s licensing, but shame you couldn’t leave the tracks in there.
Man you used to be able to see these Red Bull lectures with the tracks still in them and it added so much.
The most uplifting spiritual song imo.....is 'Optimistic' ..... Sounds of Blackness 😊😊😊
Todd "You Know" Edwards LOL
Awwwh why’d you have to point that out? Can’t unhear it now. Haha
I do know. Lol
Dubstep sucks -garage rocks make some new garage brother -bring back our best era in music -luv peace and beautiful light everyone
Listen to Alicia by mala 😊
