  • The volcanoes of Tongariro National Park in NZ mark the most treasured spot in all of Maori culture. Mike Douglas, Chris Rubens, and Josh Daiek gain unprecidented access to these sacred lands.

NZ is truly a gem popping out of the South West Pacific Ocean.
Although knee deep powder is awesome......and it only happens on rare occasions, it certainly makes you appreciate other aspects of the mountains.
Good video Mike Douglas and team.

With top notch production value and better story telling than anything else involving skis, these videos keep getting better and better.

You did a fantastic job at giving a genuine insight into the life of a Ruapehu skier... Bumming around waiting for the weather to clear :p

Very interesting perception of mountains from a different culture, but one thing is the same: respect. Great episode @SalomonFreeskiTV

I've moved away from the mountains for a few years, with no skiing possible. These videos help me stay connected to and filled with my passion for skiing in these doldrum years. Keep it up!

That was my home mountain as a kid, some great memories of hiking to the old crater lake and getting the last run back to the ski club, or the skiing in a complete whiteout and being scared witless.

Its not aways 3' of fresh (though that's great). Skiing is long hikes in terrible weather only to curve ice, groomers with groms, absorbing the local culture on rain days, and enjoying every bit of it. Keep up the great work!

Loved the video. Amazing landscape of Central Northlands Volcanos. Used to live in HawkesBay NZ and could see the snow peaked Ruapehu from my house year round. Only skied there one day. Shame. If you are in North Island in the Summer walk the Tongariro Crossing - an excellent day trek.

No one has ever been hurt in these eruptions eh? The dude who lost is leg in the summit hut might object, nevermind the Tangiwai Disaster.

That's the Ruapehu I know! It's soo exposed that most of the snow blows straight off leave it hard and fast.
