Japan’s closed borders during winter 2020/21 resulted in near-empty snow resorts in Niseko. The one winter with no lift lines. The one winter with fresh snow under the chair lift at 3:00 PM. The one winter to remind us why we live here. To slow down and appreciate the natural phenomenon of Niseko’s snow and mountains. No need to rush. The one winter where lift-access riding during peak season in Niseko was the opposite of the last resort. FIRST RESORT.
No secret spots. No big backcountry tours. Pure fun. Shot 100% on lift-accessed terrain across the resorts of Niseko United.

Considering you seem to be a Niseko local & answer most questions, I thought I'd give it a shot: I'll come to Hokkaido for the first time this season. First time considering skiing in non-avalanche controlled terrain, too. Which of the backcountry gates do you reckon have the relatively lowest risk? Or should I not bother and just stick to Strawberry Fields etc?

Hey. I saw a comment you made on the Rome SDS Splitboard on their website. I live in Switzerland and I'm thinking about getting one. Do you like it? Does it seem stable when both sides are fastened together? Have you ridden any Jones boards? I have a quiver with a Jones Mountain Twin, Bataleon Party Wave & Whatever, and a Lib Tech Orca. I like to hike up instead of taking the lift and have a friend who rents splitboards that's encouraging me to get into it. Your video is really good. I'm surprised you don't have more subscribers. Keep making them. You've got some talent!
Hey! Thank you so much! Yes, I really like the Rome Whiteroom Splitboard. The new model is my favorite design, and it is very stable. Great for hiking bigger mountains and riding bigger lines!
This was great! assuming you used a proper camera, did you use a water proof housing? What was the setup?
Thank you! I'm happy you enjoyed it. This was filmed on a mix of cameras, with a few different videographers as well. Quite a big mix of gear actually! Panasonic video, DSLRs, GoPro, Mirrorless cameras, etc.

@@hb7030 This was filmed throughout the whole winter. However, the end of December is usually great. The first long clip following through the trees and bamboo was in late December!

Awesome video, japan is mindblowing! Just saw your post on the rome website about the uprise splitboard - Do you like it in those tight trees too, is it nimble enought? I`m asking because i might want to get one too but the the effective edge seems very long, not sure if its good for trees.

Looks like an insane time with no lines. Loved the footage and track. What time of season was this? I just moved to Japan this summer and I am looking to head up to Niseko in December.
It was a dream! I don't think another winter like this will come again. This was filmed through the season, December - March.

Is February the best snow pow?
February is great! The most snowfall is usually from December through early March.
Just so everybody knows - Utube displayed dates are not the date of uploading and worse not the date of the event. The displayed date is the date corresponding to the number of views. So even though Evan clearly states that this video relates to the 2020/21 Season, some may think it was shot in November 2021. It wasn't.

@@mcvu4270 As Evan has stated it was shot throughout the Season. Shots with deep powder and where the Sasa Grass (similar to Bamboo) is visible were probably shot in early January while those with deep powder and no visible Sasa Grass would be late January. Of course it depends upon the Season. If your question was designed to plan a trip my advice is that it depends upon you ability. Late December and early January generally have the most powder days. This makes sense if you consider the average snow fall has been about 12 metres in the past. By mid February Niseko transforms into what I call 'flat land' (the large amount of snow fills in the terrain and reduces the steepness of the slopes). So December means very steep, late February not so steep. Late February also has the highest number of 'groomed days' that are cold but with little new snow. Hope this helps.

These are all within the resort or you went backcountry?
All of this was filmed in Niseko using the lifts to access the terrain. Some shots were out of the backcountry gates of the resort and others were not. Lots of fun terrain out here!
