I think this lineup of lorna deserves to be viewed as one of the greats in deathcore. At least in terms of eras of the genre.

I’m really happy with how this song diverts from the last two singles. It’s not overly showy. It’s melodic and melancholy in all the right ways. Oh and no breakdown to end the song, which is great variation.

@@coreyw5981 it's absolutely cut from the same cloth. I love what the band is doing, but these two songs might as well be conjoined. I'll hold my judgement until the album is here, but I hope it's not the same formula over and over.

Even as an older generation (in 42 this year) i find them really diverse and melodic even though they are a deathcore band

I hate to say it, because I love this band and have loved every single since Will came on. But yes, I'd like to see some variation.
This is still one of my favs from the album and even though I heard to the hellfire before this, this was my open door to death metal heaven
Lorna shore reminding me of aversions crown...they found their niche and arent straying very far from that...which is cool until all songs start to sound the same
To the untrained ear they sound the same because they all have similar elements but the nuance and variance is everything. The thing that separates them from AC is AC 1.) didn’t incorporate orchestral elements and 2.) was very much [verse - breakdown - bridge - chorus - breakdown - breakdown - end] LS is very deliberate and masterful with how they structure their songs and paying attention to how the sections are arranged with the theme of the lyrics is the nuance I was speaking of earlier that AC lacked. I’m also a total mark for LS, full disclosure lol

@@dajmoneq2840 fair point. But I don’t think they’re necessarily unaware or removed from that. It’s definitely deliberate and I think it’s because it’s a concept album. The songs, so far, lyrically are about figures in Greek mythology. I think there’s a story being told as the album progresses and you’ll notice the structure and feel of the tracks will gradually shift throughout
The guitar solo is honestly one of the best I've heard in a long time. Not overly showy or complex, just super fittingly melodic.
Lorna Shore has a knack for writing catchy breakdowns and amazing solos, but Dude, check out 'From So Far Away' by All Shall Perish, if you haven't heard it already. Rusty Cooley is the guest guitarist for the song and did a lot of the soloing. It's one of the songs that seems to find you when you're driving at night with the windows down. You're doing the speed limit and the next thing you know you're doing 100. Let me know what you think.

They need more variation in their song structures. I love lorna but the past couple releases have all sounded the same. They just go straight to blast beat play as fast as possible to breakdown. What made their immortal album great was the variation from song to song.

I like how they take different aspects of past songs and use them to create something new. The beginning sounds a lot like sun eater, similar scale too.
Other than the riffs having a kinda death metal sound to em, LS have been getting pretty repetitive and i think they can do better. The song is really really good don't get me wrong they just kinda sound the same other than Into The Earth and To The Hellfire they all sounded the same to me (even Into The Earth wasn't that different)
After hearing how great Will's singing voice is, I'm hoping for at least a bit of clean stuff on the new album. That would be too good.

If you play the song at ×0.75 speed it sounds like an In Flames song in the main riff
will has a really pretty singing voice. i would love even a tiny little bit of clean vocals in the full album or in the future. his cover of sleep token was amazing.
It's not the song, it's the lyrics which makes me come back again and again to this song. Sometimes makes me cry too, thinking what would a creator think like in a situation like this.
More variation in the song structures would be great in future songs.
certainly have their formula Lorna Shore lol, it's so easy to play with that so it's pretty annoying to not get much surprises in the songs lately. I love Lorna Shore and wills a monster but yeah repetitive sounding a bit.
i feel they might have reached a certain pinnacle and might have topped out to how good they are ever gonna get, but damn i still want more for now so I guess we'll see after next album

I was feeling the same. Can only play a similar melody at 1000 bpm into a crushing breakdown so many times before I start to lose interest. It’s good. Really good. But the last few singles just haven’t excited me as much.
I wish they'd change up the drums from just constant blast beats. Nothing wrong with them but I would just like a change in the beat
Into the earth is the only song that's really grabbed me out of these recently
I love this band, has huge potential, great musicianship and ideas, but all the songs sound the same, not just in sound but in structure.

As lots of people said, tho, i'm starting to be concerned about them getting stuck into doing the same thing over and over again.
Some more defined orchestral stuff (Immortal style), some more grooves, maybe even different techniques by Will (since he can do cleans, and even Mongolian throat singing, apparently XD), and overall sound and structure innovations would be very good for the band.
Probably biased bc I’m a huge fan of this band as well, but I’d like to see if LS took their sound towards a similar direction as The Faceless. Maybe even like a small verse of Will’s clean vocals in a song (his Sleep Token cover really got to me lol), but even just a more varied song structure or more melodic guitar riffs throughout would sound good I think
But all the singles Lorna Shore have released with Will have definitely been incredible on their own haha

This band makes it real hard to argue against the “it all sounds the same” trope. I love heavy music, but the last 3 singles have the exact same song structure, this one just doesn’t have the choir-esque intro

If you really think this is anything like Sun//Eater or Into The Earth you're tripping. Will's screams sound similar because that's his voice, everything else is so vastly different from one another

That’s what I’m babbling about. You don’t need to be a rocket scientist to hear the similarities in most of their newer songs there buddy
While i do love this song i've said with every single. A whole album of this would get boring really fast. The songs are great but 30/40 minutes of it would get tiring

@@Daniel-vu4qu No, it’s just LS has been using the exact same formula for years and barely implementing new ideas. Guitar-wise, its all mostly in the same key, some tremolo picked chugs first fret, string skippy riff, solo and chorus. As well as mostly using the same scales for the string skipping riffs. And then drums is just non stop blast beats which gets pretty boring and tiring after awhile.
@@2174863 I feel this. They are insanely talented! BUT, opinionated point is now it feels like I'm listening to the same song, and yes Ive listened to metal for 20 years now lol. They're starting to lack diversity right now, it needs a switch up, they are still beyond phenomenal as hell! They just have to take It to another level, not a higher level, but distinct.

I'm just gonna say it. While this is a good track, I can't help but think it just sounds like Sun Eater's younger brother. Same key, very similar structure and tempo, albeit a more mellow vibe on this one. I just hope that Lorna Shore doesn't eventually become one of those bands that recycle the same few ideas over and over. :/

Yeah this followed the exact same style and cadence of sun eater. Of course I am a fan of the song but they are all sounding very similar now
That's not even the end of it. The breakdown->chorus piece is extremely similar to what they did in Of the Abyss. Another commenter said that this is probably the best time for them to evolve a little further and step out of this, albeit relatively new, comfort zone, and I couldn't agree more. This isn't 100% accurate here nor do I mean to imply it, but if a band released the same song 4 times in the span of 6 drops, I'd get pretty bored.
I will dare to say, however, that they're undermining their own formula by overusing it.

Modern day problems. People actually worried about a band making 3-4 songs that sound similar. If they make at least 2 albums like that, yes, it's a problem if you want to say it. There are dozens of bands that revolve around the same ideas for even decades. Obsession with expecting something new all the time is really tiring.

I can tell on this one that they're doing small changes to mix up the structure, I hope they keep on that path to evolve the sound more. Definitely an extremely talented group of musicians.

I kinda feel like these 3 singles have been basically identical. Not necessarily bad, but I'd like to see some more variation. This one was a little less over-the-top, but the songs overall sound almost indistinguishable from each other. Hoping for some more variation on the album

I'm not really into this genre of metal, but I think if the vocals had a little more variation and less grunting it would appeal to way more people. Don't take it out completely, just a lil more variation.

Personally, I feel like all the singles have felt very much the same, I got bored of Sun//Eater after maybe 4 listens? I think I listened to all of the last song 2 times, and I haven’t even checked out this song till this video. They all sound the same. The EP was incredible and pushed so many boundaries. The only thing I would say is really cool is the leads. I love with major key style the solos have.
Of The Abyss and Sun/Eater are the best metal songs I’ve heard in forever, but ngl the other stuff they’re putting out doesn’t stand out to me :( I hope they do more diversity like you said

I actually prefer this 'shorter' format coming in at under 5 minutes compared to 6+ for others. they still kept all the important bits while not overstaying.
