St Croix scuba: the long swim home

  • Diving in the bay involved a surface swim of maybe 200 yards or so to the drop point at 35 ft, then about a 5 min bottom cruise to the rock wall where things get interesting... and depth falls off from 40 ft to several hundred ft.
    Anywho, this is a clip from the swim back after our wall dive. Mostly just using up our tanks and enjoying the view, but we did have a mild incoming current (notice the particulates floating past me) which made this the most demanding dive of the trip... easily a 1.5/10 on the Exhaust-O-Meter, hah.
    As you can see the water is shallow here, only 25 ft or so. Other divers with me ascended and completed the return trip on the surface as their air ran down; I stayed down and surfaced near the beach. Was a good trip, looking forward to going back next year with sidemount gear at minimum (preferably a rebreather) for some much longer, deeper dives.
