I believe that some DJs out there just don't want to put in effort to learn this or they're just thick headed & they think they already understand it but never truly do. I also believe you're born with the understanding or your not.. the if you're not you gotta put serious work in.

It's all about sharing the knowledge. If young DJs aren't born with that understanding and are only talking to people who don't know OR are not willing to share and teach, they miss out on a lot of important essential info.

I started out writing at 15. Then at 17 I got into the production side of the house. I didn't want to have to depend on people making my music for me. I mean, who knows what I want to hear better than me? Then I picked up DJ'ing later on at 24. Usually for people, it's the other way around. I learned how to count beats early and didn't realize how much of an impact it had at being a DJ.

Counting always seemed pretty logical to me, but drumming at 14 might have had something to do with that ;)

Well played brother. I enjoy your videos. They have helped me out a lot... even as far as dealing with people. Because the hardest thing that I have had to do as a DJ is having to be polite to very impolite people.

I grew up with 8yrs of classical training, obviously involving a lot of theory, so its basically second nature to me. That being said, I know that everyone is capable of learning. It should be common sense, you have to understand why a track was written a certain way if you want to alter it. A lot of things can be summed up as "artistic freedom and personal preference" but some things just dont quite work...

#dislikes? you have to be kidding me! - There are 2 people that don't think that they need to mix with proper structure. LOL!
Great video! I'm surprised how many people don't know this "secret" and continue clashing, i mean mixing...

Nice explanation TLM. My mixes became 5000 times better once I understood this myself. It too irritates me when I see vets mix drop acapellas on the wrong count, or there phrasing is completely off and mix in the middle of the verse. I understand trying to improvise and what you wanted to do didnt work on that type of phrasing while mixing, but not on every transition lol.

Yeah, it's weird to me to see veteran DJs not paying any attention to the count
