    The cool thing about Neville destroying the last horcrux is that he was actually part of the original prophecy. Neville could have been ‘The Chosen One’ to defeat Voldemort but Voldemort felt more connected to Harry because he’s a half blood. Even though Harry was the one marked by Voldemort (the lightning bolt scar), Neville still played a huge part in defeating Voldemort and still fulfilled his place in the prophecy. One of the reasons Neville’s one of my favorite characters! I love his story and character progression.

    Narcissa Malfoy, Draco's mom, is so underrated! She was always treated like a pretty thing and nothing more, people thought she was pretty but not that clever. She was seen more as a trophy wife than anything. But every time you see Lucius cower under Voldemort in the last couple movies, she is always stoic. She is so strong mentally, in more ways than one would think. She's actually a powerful legilimens, so she was always able to protect her mind from Voldemort (who would search people's minds a lot to see if some were trying to deceive him). She blocked him all this time and he never even suspected it because, again, he only saw her as nothing more than a pretty thing, and thought she would never be able or strong enough to deceive him. He greatly underestimated her and that was his demise. The whole time, Narcissa is just doing whatever she needs to do to save and protect her son. When she goes to see if Harry's dead, she's risking everything by saying he is indeed dead. I don't remember if that's the case in the movie, but I think in the book he sent her specifically instead of, say, Bellatrix, because he thought she couldn't lie to him, wasn't strong or ballsy enough. She is a badass woman, even though we don't spend much time on her in the movies.

    When McGonagall fights Snape in the great hall, it looks like Snape is just protecting himself but he actually redirected Mcgonagall's spell to incapacitate the two death eaters behind him, thus making sure they couldn't harm anyone. Also, the actor for Crabbe was in prison at the time of filming, so crabbe is replaced in this scene with Blaise Zabini, another Slytherin. He's not very present in the movies.

    • @davidfairweather3301
      @davidfairweather3301 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      This isn’t quite true. The actor for Crabbe was not in prison at the time. He was fired after he was caught growing weed and was sentenced to community service. His prison sentence came in 2012 during the london riots in which many people were on the streets destroying public property and protesting in reaction to the death of Mark Duggan, who arguably was unjustifiably shot dead by police.

    In defence of Dumbledore I must say that he saw the bigger picture. He spend most of his time looking for a way to save Harry and it was at the end of book 4 when he found it. When Harry tells Dumbledore that Peter took his blood to bring Voldemort back Harry sees him smiling for a quick second and his eyes shine. Here's the deal: Lilly sacrifice for his son and because of that her blood became Harry's protection and therefore aunt Petunia became Harry's protection after her sister died and that's why Dumbledore made him to stay there. So in book 4 when Voldemort came back with Harry's blood he basically became Harry protector too. That's why Harry Survive the Avada Kedabra twice, once because of Lily and once because of Voldemort and that's why he killed the part of himself inside Harry. sooo when Dumbledore says to Snape that "Voldemort himself must do it" he knew that Harry was safe. That was his goal all along.

      Also movies snape was better than book snape. Book snape bullied Neville so bad that he was Neville’s biggest fear. He was also mean to Hermione and Harry. All of them children. I like snape and his story is such a great redemption but let’s not romanticize him. 😂

    • @teddxanthos8000
      @teddxanthos8000 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      He's not only keeping it a secret from Snape but from Harry as well. He had to actually "mean" to die, not defend himself or know he would survive. Remember in the books at the train station Dumbledore says "And that, I believe is what made all the difference." That's also why Harry's sacrifice provided all the defenders of Hogwarts the same protection Harry received from his mother. From the moment Harry was "almost" killed by Voldemort, Voldemort could not fatally harm anyone that Harry died to protect.

    The main reason Harry survived the killing curse was that he was in control of the elder wand. The wand chose to kill the Voldemort in preference to Harry, The resurrection stone only brings back images of dead people: revisit the tail of the three brothers! However as he effectively was in control of all 3 hallows, he was the master of death. If Voldemort had tried another wand he would have been equally unsuccessful as he previously added Harry's blood to himself; carrying Lilly's protection. In sacrificing himself to protect his side from more deaths, Harry put the same spell Lilly put on Harry, so that none of the defenders of Hogswort died after this act. In fact Harry could cast a shield charm that deflected the killing curse (battle in the book).

    • @yeahyen
      @yeahyen ปีที่แล้ว +17

      Yes! Thanks for clearing this up. The wandmaker specifically said, THE WAND CHOOSES THE WIZARD. so when Voldemort "killed" Harry using the elder wand, it did not kill Harry himself (since Harry is its true owner) but only killed the part of Voldemort inside him.

      Yes! This! Dumbledore knew that Voldemort had taken Harry's blood when creating his new body after the TriWizard Tournemet. He either new or was hoping that Lily's protection would therefore transfer now that her blood was essentially in Voldemorts veins (through Harry's). That's why he said it was essential the Voldemort himself be the one to kill Harry. But Harry couldn't know this. Harry truly believed and was willing to sacrifice himself for his loved ones in the castle during that final battle. Dumbledore said in the books during the after death train scene that that sacrifice made all the difference.

      I think, for the most part, those of us who didn't read the books would've liked that scene. The book readers are purists, so they wouldn't have liked it, which I completely understand.

    • @davidfairweather3301
      @davidfairweather3301 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      I don’t get the idea of being salty that the movie didn’t include something that wasn’t even in the book to begin with. Draco wasn’t a hero. He just wasn’t dark or evil enough to commit to being a death eater. He was your typical bully who grew up privileged and parroted a lot of his parents beliefs, but his hatred of Harry was all him. Lucius even said to him it wasn’t wise to seem unfavourable of Harry but he was jealous of the attention and praise Harry got.
      The problem with the Malfoys is that they didn’t change their mind about being on Voldermorts side because they actually changed their beliefs, it was because Voldermort treated them like crap. They were an elite family who believed they should be respected and above everyone else, but when Voldermort returned, he took over their home, mocked and belittled Lucius and gave Draco the impossible task of killing Dumbledore or he’d kill them all. Had Voldermort returned and treated them as they expected like a powerful elite family and were giving special privileges amongst the death eaters, I doubt their shift in allegiance would’ve been so pronounced.
      Draco just wasn’t as cruel or evil as he made out he was, but it doesn’t make him a hero or a nice person. I think a big factor in this obsession with Draco being good is Tom Felton’s performance. He manages to convey Draco’s conflict so well, and the fact everyone thinks Tom Felton is hot af, leads him to be more sympathetic in the movies.

      @@samblustein1918 the fact you have to characterise people who feel loyalty to the canon story as “manic purists” is insulting and a pure joke. Movies are an adaptation of an already established story in a book. Feeling salty because movies didn’t add another scene that made Malfoy look like a hero is hilarious. Malfoy did not earn a redemption arc in the story. He was pretty much sidelined after chamber of secrets up until half blood Prince. You want him portrayed as a hero in the movies, as a book reader and a loyalty to the canon story, I think they gave adequate time to offer sympathetic notions for his character.

      No, it was good that they cut the scene out. It was cringy. Not everything has to be fan-service. One of so many things I like about JK, she wrote complicated characters, not only bad people and good people. Such as Dumbledore, Sirius, James, Snape, and my favourite Draco. The Malfoys walked out was perfect ending for them. I liked it that way because it was realistic.

    I think it's important to remember that Dumbledore knew Harry already had two of the Deathly Hallows (the Invisibility cloak and the resurrection stone he hid in the snitch) and that the Elder Wand would come to him as it seeks its owner. Also, while outwardly it appears Dumbledore was plotting, it's important note what he specifically says about who must kill Harry, Voldemort himself. The why becomes apparent once the truth of Harry's status as a Horcrux is revealed. Harry was always going to have to die to beat Voldemort, Dumbledore saw to it that Harry would be the Master of Death before then. The Deathly Hallows don't have to be physically with you, they need only belong to you. Just a thought.

    • @CeliaViljoen
      @CeliaViljoen ปีที่แล้ว +23

      Dumbledore never planned for Harry to become the owner of the elder wand. The plan was for the allegiance to die with him because his death was planned and he wasn't defeated. It just so happened that Harry became the master of all the Hallows because Draco disarmed Dumbledore and then Harry disarmed Draco. The actual plan was that Harry would survive because Voldemort used Harry's blood to get his body back thus part of Lilly's protection lives in voldemort. So if voldemort kills Harry he would kill the horcrux but Harry would survive.

    It's so heartbreaking to see Ron cry over Fred, considering how cheerful he usually is. It's even more heartbreaking for George, since he was never able to use The Patronus Charm again, since it requires your happiest memories to function properly and every one of his happy memories involved Fred.
    Also, I was at the midnight premiere of The Deathly Hallows Part 2 in 3D. The scene where Mrs. Weasley takes out Bellatrix got a huge cheer from the audience. I also wanted to spotlight the prophecy: When Professor Dumbledore said to Professor Snape in the memory that the prophecy spoke of a boy born at the end of July, there were actually 2 born then: Harry Potter and Neville Longbottom. They were born in the same month and year, but Neville is literally only one day older than Harry. Despite Harry being a three-time survivor of Voldemort's xenophobia:
    As a 15-month-old toddler
    As a 14-year-old unwilling participant in the Triwizard Tournament
    And as a 17-year-old wizard in the Forbidden Forest

    The thing with the movies, they make Snape a better person, so if you haven't read the books you can believe he truly loved Lily and not just obsessed with her like the books. He also truly was a bully in the mivies. He constantly was trying to poison nevilles pet toad, trevor, and bullied kids just because he could. But they also robbed Draco of redemption in the movies, they cut him throwing Harry his wand.
    Also, Dumbledore is death. Voldemort is the first brother from the story, who got the wand and lusted for power. Snape is the second, who had the stone and longed for a dead woman. Harry is the third, and when it was his time, he did not hide but approached death and greeted him like an old friend.

    Ron was amazing in the books, in book 5 he was actually voted as gryffindor head boy and harry was jealous of that. To be head boy you have to have the best grades. The movies didn’t do ron justice, the director gave hermoine a lot of lines that should have been ron’s

      Ron was selected as Headboy because Dumbledore didn't want to give the title to Harry. Harry was the best guy in year 5, but Dumbledore was avoiding him that year remeber? And the Headboy/girl and headmaster spend a lot of time together.

    Fun Fact: the scene where Hermione pretends that she is Bellatrix so that she can access Volt in the Bank. Emma the actress who played Bellatrix was filmed on video. Then Helena Bonham Carter watched Emma's video and she mimicked her walk and talk when she played Bellatrix. So: Emma played Hermione who played the version of Bellatrix and Helena Bonham Carter played Hermonie like Emma played her who pretended to be Bellatrix's version. Also when McGonagall attacked Snape he did not attack her back. He only defended himself, he disarmed 2 Voldermort death eaters who were standing behind him before he ran away.

    Fun facts: Draco marries a Slytherin a few years younger than him named Astoria Greengrass and the actress playing her in the final scene was Tom Felton's real life girlfriend at the time. Also the showing of Lupin and Tonks together is to show that they left a child behind. Teddy Lupin is only about a week old when they die and Harry was named Godfather. Harry asks Remus if he regrets leaving his son behind and Remus says he knows he'll have Harry and those alive will be able to tell him about his parents.

    Just to show how intimate this battle was, Molly and Bellatrix were second cousins, so seeing that fight adds another layer. Arthur Weasley, and Lucious Malfoy are also second cousins. So, Charlie, Bill, Percy, Fred, George, Ron, and Ginny are cousins of Draco from both directions. Tonks was the niece of Narcissa & Bellatrix, and was a cousin of Sirius's (first cousin once removed, I believe.) Pretty sure that Remus Lupin was *distantly* related to a number of families. When it's said the wizarding world is all related, it's true.

  • @toodlescae
    @toodlescae ปีที่แล้ว +2

    The "random new guy" in the Room of Requirement is Blaize Zabini. We met him in Half-Blood Prince but he was mentioned in the first book during sorting. They put him in after the actor who played Crabbe (who set the Fiendfyre off in the book and died) was fired for getting arrested twice.
    Dumbledore had known since Goblet of Fire that Voldemort couldn't kill Harry. By using Harry's blood to reform his body Voldemort had made himself something similar to a positive horcrux (a lovecrux if you will) which tied Harry to life but destroyed the piece of Voldemort inside Harry. Just to be sure though Dumbledore made sure that Harry understood how the Hallows actually worked. The Resurrection Stone couldn't return Harry to life but it could recall the shadows of people he loved to give him the courage to sacrifice himself. Harry actually believed he was going to his death.

    *Just some more canon tidbits for the future of the trio:*
    * Harry never finished his studies in Hogwarts (Hermione went back of course), he and Ron become Aurors (dark wizard hunters). He also sometimes comes to Hogwarts as a guest lecturer for Defense againts the Dark Arts.
    * And way in the future, Hermione becomes Minister of Magic.
    * Ron eventually stops being an auror and helps run the joke shop with the surviving Weasley twin, George.
    * Neville becomes Professor Longbottom at Hogwarts, teaching Herbology.
    * Ginny has a succesful career as a professional Quidditch player.
    The ending about Harry breaking the Elder Wand was not really canon. In the book, he uses it to repair his own broken wand (it was the only one powerful enough to repair it), and he put it back in Dumbledore's tomb. As long as Harry was alive, no one will be able to wield it properly.

    In the books, Snape actually bullied all kids in Hogwarts. The film version of him is way kinder.
    Also he became a Deatheater before Lilly got killed - so you can't really say he's not evil at all.
    Voldemort knew that Snape loved Lilly. Snape begged Voldemort to not kill Lilly - James and the Baby were fine to kill. But Lilly refused to stand aside. She protected Harry while she could've gotten out there alive. That's how she created the love protection.

    Harry himself never died, only the Voldy part in him. The stone only can bring back loved ones from the dead, hence having his parents there with Sirius and Lupin. He couldn't use it the resurect, he dropped it beforehand. It's lost in the forest. I'm in my 60's and have watched and rewatched the movies and read the books again and I'll do so all my life, "always". Thanks for you guys, youve been the best to rewatch HP for the X time.

    Not sure if anyone mentions it in the comments, but when Harry goes to the Forbidden forest to sacrifice himself, he puts the same protection onto all of his allies battling at Hogwarts, just like how his mom placed one on him as a baby. That’s why Neville doesn’t die from Voldemort’s spell.

  • @HaraQuinn

    i've heard theories that the original spell of love that saved Harry, also served him through (possibly) Draco's mother.. b/c the resurection stones weren't created to bring back the dead exactly.. However, the more clear reason is.. as Dumbledore explained, "His body keeps Lily's sacrifice alive, and while that enchantment survives, so do you."
    So when Voldemort hit Harry with Killing Curse in the forest, it destroyed the Horcrux that resided in Harry, but left Harry himself alive. Since Voldemort was still alive, Lily's love spell was still in effect, which only sent Harry to limbo, where he saw Dumbledore, and was given a choice to die and finally rest, or return home. 🤍

    I can't believe we reached the last movie! Harry Potter will always be one of my favorite movie series! It has literally everything you can want out of a movie. Seeing it come to an end is always sad, I've probably rewatched these movies 7 or 8 times and the ending still hits hard every time. I agree with Rob, seeing Snape's memories was probably the best part of this movie, you get to see Snape's pain and who he truly was as a character. His love for Harry's mom stayed intact through it all, which is the reason he always tried to protect Harry. His last line" You have your mother's eyes", never fails to bring me to tears after finding out how much he loved Lily. One of my favorite quotes from this movie is Harry talking to Snape after he comes back to Hogwarts, "How dare you stand where he stood. Tell them how it happened that night! Tell them how you looked him in the eye, a man who trusted you, and killed him! Tell them!" Even though later on we find out that Snape was good the entire time, and that Snape killing Dumbledore was planned, that line just hits, the way Daniel Radcliffe delivered that line always gives me chills." I love that scene, it's one of my favorites of the movie. Ron and Hermione finally getting together in this movie was so exciting, it's something we had been waiting to see for so many years, it was long overdue. Seeing all those people sacrifice their lives for Harry is so sad, and seeing Lupin, Tonks, and Fred die was so hard to watch. Neville was a hero in this movie, it was so cool that he was able to destroy the final Horcrux which allowed Harry to kill Voldemort. Let's not forget about Mrs. Weasley, the way she defended Ginny and killed Bellatrix Lestrange was amazinggg! I LOVE HARRY POTTER! ❤️❤️ I'm going to miss these reactions!

    I could be wrong, but my sense was that Harry used the Resurrection Stone to talk to his parents, Sirius, and Remus because the stone doesn't really work to truly bring people back to life. That was why the Peverell brother who originally got the stone killed himself. I don't think even Dumbledore really knew if Harry would actually live or not, but he did know that the only way to get rid of the horcrux was for Voldemort to cast the killing curse on Harry. In the end, it seems the curse worked to kill the piece of Voldemort that was in Harry, but not Harry himself.

My oldest is turning 11 this year and thanks to the beauty that is Etsy he WILL be receiving a Hogwarts letter on his birthday and I will be taking him on the Harry Potter Studio tour in Tokyo for his birthday as well.
    The only thing about this movie that genuinely bothers me to this day is that they gave Voldemort a kind of magical death by dissolving into ash. I understand from the whimsy filmmaker perspective why that looks visually more appealing and symbolic compared to the man just dropping dead in the most mundane of ways...but that was the whole theme of the books and Voldemort's character, the fear of mortality and being 'normal' (to put it in the simplest of terms. Alan Rickman's performance of Snape will go down as one of my most favorite portrayals ever - just beyond superb casting.

    Favourite is probably Molly bc the movies really didn’t show her magic a lot and it pissed me off cause she’s an insanely powerful Duellist and came from one of the most powerful wizarding families in the world. Like using non verbal spells comes SO easily to her and it’s what makes her such a powerful witch and truly shows how masterful her magic really is
