I like the theory that the reason the Great Stone Dragon doesn't wake up is because it already did. Mulan is the great dragon that protects her family. Also, Shan Yu is not surprised that Mulan is a woman because the Huns had female warriors in their army!

The movie version of Reflection was sang by Lea Salonga, same person who sang A Whole New World from Aladdin. The pop/radio version was sang by Christina Aguilera. She also sang the recent soundtrack Brave, Loyal & True from the live action movie.
The short hair scene always make me cry cause Mulan thought she was such a burden to her family, that if someone was to die she would rather it was her and not her father 😭😭
The story of Mulan comes from a very old poem. It is debated wether the poem is based on a true story, but it's just to old to really verify. As much as I love this movie, Mulan in the poem is just so much cooler. In the poem she takes the place of her father and younger brother, serves in the military for ten years fighting many many battles and rose to the rank of general. She also was never found out, and only let people know when she retired from her post. There is a live action Mulan from Disney, but the consensus is that it isn't very good. If you want to watch a live action version I would recommend the 2009 Chinese live action rendition. It's a more accurate version of the story, and is much more action packed, and quite a bit more bloody and emotional.

The soundtrack song that plays when Mulan is leaving her home, gathering her father's armor and cutting off her hair is called "Haircut". It's one of my favorite songs. It makes the song feel so much more powerful.

Also, the moment where he says it's Adele but it's from 1998 is hilarious lol.
So, aside from everything else that makes the 1998 animated Mulan so great, here are some other tidbits: 1) They actually made Captain Lee Chang Bisexual. Albeit, subtly. He fell for "Ping" back when he understood him to be a man. However, he also fell for "Mulan" (as they were the same person and he liked Ping/Mulan for who they were). That's why Lee Chang is well-known for being a Bisexual icon in the LGBT community. Can we also take a moment to realize that mushu just killed two people. Those poor souls in the fireworks tower jumped to her death because they were so scared of him. There is nothing around that tower so considering the high they are most certainly dead
Fun fact! I'm a history student and there was an event in which a large group of Chinese soldiers actually did dress up and claim they were palace concubines to breach their enemy's defenses
A great point in the movie is that Mushu couldn’t awake The Great Stone Dragon because it was ALREADY awake in Mulan, making her the keeper of her family.
one of my favorite lines in the movie is when The leader of there Huns say " The soldier from the mountain". Meaning did not care that Mulan was a women because in Hun culture women are allowed to fight so to him Mulan really was just another soldier.
"You now have a girl worth fighting for" Nah, you guys missed it. During that song, it was cut short when they arrived at the razed village and found the doll of a little girl who had presumably killed by the Huns in their raid. That was their girl worth fighting for.
There are a few endings. The cynical one is that she ends up as a concubine to someone. One of the other well-known ones and most popular is that she gets through the war undiscovered, it goes well, then her old squad mates visit her and are surprised to see her due to never knowing.

This movie really is it. It’s so well written and clever. Like in the song Honor to us All. They say that a girl can bring great honor in one way. By striking up a match. Well that’s exactly how Mulan beat the hun army and brought honor to her family. Love things like that! Best Disney movie and great reaction!
mulan's origin has different variations, there was a short poem about her, some say that it's pure fiction from the poem, some say she really did go to war in place of her father without the dramatic saving china avalanche thing.
love that you guys watched mulan. just some historical facts that make this film interesting - the great wall of china has existed in some shape or form since before the 5th century BCE. the story of Mulan is based on a chinese folk song originating some time between the 4th and 6th century CE. the empire mulan fights so hard for eventually falls to the descendants of the huns, the mongols in the 13th century CE.
Something about this movie that I really liked since I was young is that shows that no matter who you are (boy or girl) you can achieve great things if you work really hard and don’t listen to people that always put you down. Is crazy how much I related to this movie growing up, because I’m a boy from the Americans that don’t know anything about the Chinese culture, but when the story is good and inspiring we all can relate too.
The reason Shan Yu (the main villain) is green becaause it's Disney's way of indicating that he is truly evil. Same with Maleficents green fire, Dr Facilier's green magic, and Lady Tremaine's green eyes.
Mulan is one of my favorite movies. I can probs quote it backwards and forwards. Just so many good messages and bops for days. Plus voiced by Ming Na who is an icon (and the only one to complete the Disney hat trick). Love seeing you guys react (found you from the Wednesday reactions)
Mulan 2 is a great sequel!! Hopefully you guys will check it out one day. 😊💕 There's also a Jackie Chan music video to I'll Make a Man Out of You, where he sings the Chinese version and does martial arts moves... it used to be my favorite DVD extra because I found it so hilarious. 😂
What I absolutely love about this movie is this is how you write a great female character. Mulan isn't perfect and is at a disadvantage physically which is true to life. But she uses her others strengths, problem solving skills and works hard like everyone else to reach her goal and earn her new skill set. This is what makes her a bad ass whilst being a good role model.
I love how Mulan is just very casual about Mulan literally is THE hero of china, they didn't make Mulan talk on and on about how she's a woman but can does whatever a man could. Perfect example of show don't tell. Yes they talked about how being a woman isn't good but she didn't allow that to make her basically a character like she hulk... she was just a girl doing her best and we love that W movie
For me, one of the most amazing things about this movie, is the fact that they stop the musical portion of the film halfway through. At the end of “a girl worth fighting for”, they come across this absolutely devastating massacre, and after that there is not any song in the movie ever again. It took a very earnest and serious turn and was no longer comedic almost at all.

Fun fact! I'm a history student and there was an event in which a large group of Chinese soldiers actually did dress up and claim they were palace concubines to breach their enemy's defenses
This and Aladdin are my two all-time favourites!! So glad Zuff and Bryce have finally seen this ❤❤
A great point in the movie is that Mushu couldn’t awake The Great Stone Dragon because it was ALREADY awake in Mulan, making her the keeper of her family.
one of my favorite lines in the movie is when The leader of there Huns say " The soldier from the mountain". Meaning did not care that Mulan was a women because in Hun culture women are allowed to fight so to him Mulan really was just another soldier.
"You now have a girl worth fighting for"
Nah, you guys missed it. During that song, it was cut short when they arrived at the razed village and found the doll of a little girl who had presumably killed by the Huns in their raid.
That was their girl worth fighting for.
Mulan's singing voice is by Lea Salonga. She's also Jasmine's singing voice in Aladdin. She's a Filipino musical and vocal legend.
I remember watching this as a little girl and thinking that Mulan was so cool, when I have kids I will def show them this movie
The end of Mulan in the Ballad from where the movie was based off is actually pretty sad, she doesn't die, but she doesn't get the glory either.
There are a few endings. The cynical one is that she ends up as a concubine to someone. One of the other well-known ones and most popular is that she gets through the war undiscovered, it goes well, then her old squad mates visit her and are surprised to see her due to never knowing.
@@edstella wasn’t it to the emperor so she commits suicide. I think one is she’s was pregnant during one of the wars
@@rachelchrist5961 I never heard of the pregnancy one as, given the time period, it would have been unlikely outside of a marriage that was arranged for her (as she was still living with her parents and not integrated into her husband's family and moved in with them).
Who is singing?! Your guesses were CRAZY FUNNY! The incredible singing voice is the legendary Lea Salonga from Broadway's "Miss Saigon". She also did the singing voice for "A Whole New World" in "Aladdin". She is probably my all time favorite singer ever (I've been fortunate enough to hear her sing live in NYC & her voice is ANGELIC! 😇)
the singer on this is Lea Salonga she also sings in the Disney Alladin animation “ A whole new World” she also became the Miss Saigon. She is a Filipina ☺️. You can check her in youtube . She really have a Great Voice
Favorite Disney movie! I rewatched it on repeat as a kid…
also Bryce saying for grandma to talk nicely to him made me laugh so hard I started coughing 😂 loved the reaction guys!!
You guy’s are probably too young to know who Donny Osmond is but he sings I’ll make a man out of you. He had a variety show with his sister Marie. Huge teen idol in the 70’s. Such a good animated movie 😊 This was a fun reaction.
I love this movie. I watched it a lot with my sister when it came out on VHS. I can't believe that you guys have never seen it before.
I don’t care what you guys react to at this point… I’m here for whatever you guys choose. I just love watching your reactions in general 😂🎉
Fun fact: Filipino singer Lea Salonga is the voice for Mulan’s “Reflection” and Jasmine’s “A Whole New World”
This movie really is it.
Love this movie. You guys should do The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe!
Yes!! The Narnia movies are great
love that you guys watched mulan. just some historical facts that make this film interesting - the great wall of china has existed in some shape or form since before the 5th century BCE. the story of Mulan is based on a chinese folk song originating some time between the 4th and 6th century CE. the empire mulan fights so hard for eventually falls to the descendants of the huns, the mongols in the 13th century CE.
I vote you guys watch Disney's Hercules next.
the fire on the towers of the Great Wall of China served as communication-signals that warned the soldiers of enemy troops
Mulan is easily one of my favorite Disney movies!
I'm pretty sure Shang started questioning his sexuality when he started to fell in love with Ping. Hahaha
The reason Shan Yu (the main villain) is green becaause it's Disney's way of indicating that he is truly evil. Same with Maleficents green fire, Dr Facilier's green magic, and Lady Tremaine's green eyes.
“So stop harassing in the comments” 😂😂😂
HIGHLY RECOMMEND WATCHING THE SEQUEL! The songs are super good and the story line is pretty good as well!
This is my ultimate favorite Disney movie and I'm so glad you guys liked it! Thank you for such a great reaction ☺️
And a true story.
15:35 “these guys look like they’re from hell “ lmao that’s honestly a great description though
The bird shit in the hand joke had me screaming 😂😝
“Be a Man” - so good, Jackie Chan covered it, complete with his own choreography in Kung-Fu form!
“He’s just a regular cricket guys”
😂
Better than the live action reboot from 2020.
Rob, your singing is lovely.
one does not simply not sing a long to "i'll make a man out of you" easily one of the best Disney songs ever
Lea Salonga not only provided the singing voice to Mulan, but she also gave Princess Jasmine from "Aladdin" her singing voice
Literally when I'm taking a bath I will just belt out the lyrics.... It lives rent free in my brain as well as my heart....
He said "I didn't know they had dogs back in 1998" 🤣🤣 brooooo
I stg I watched this every day for a year straight when I was a kid. Such a stunning movie, amazing heroine.
Donnie Osmond is the singing voice for Li Shang. The emperor is pat morita
Yess! I forgot Mr. Miyagi is the emperor. 🤯
One of my fave Disney flix! Man out of You is such a classic Disney track
I think it's a clever detail that there are no more songs after they find the defeated army, to show how serious the situation is.
