    I have the large panniers. I have packed 2 weeks grocery's with EVERYTHING I needed for my meals inside these bags. These are great!

    Great real world practical comparison. Leaning toward the large for my 24 Transalp, but tough call on silver or black. Bike is blk, but silver seems more traditional never fuss with painting scrapes or abrasion. Thanks for review, subscribed.

      Glad it was helpful and thanks for watching and subscribing. I have moved to soft luggage now hopefully I’ll get a chance to put together a review of the Reckless 80 system. If you’re considering soft luggage it is a good system but nothing beats the protection of hard luggage and ease of packing/unpacking them.

    I’m honestly checking out your shop as much as the panniers.. looks great! I have the same Milwaukee chest..but not 3 of ‘em! Gonna watch your other Vids just to check out your shop ;)

      Thanks that is actually the “old” setup. Still working on the new one. The Milwaukee took boxes stayed but with the new layout got rid of one roller cabinet and added a large top box in its place. Thanks for watching!

    Thanks for posting, a nice follow-up would be to show both sets mounted with tape measurements for comparison. I went lg/silver. Lg because theres a chance of longer trips and also with the wife, Silver because its easier to see inside with the lighter color. Thanks again for your video and am looking forward to more. Still waiting to see if I actually will get them.. Need the kit w/ the Tusk top rack specific to the 2017 Honda Rally.. Everything is sold out across the entire US on any site.. The seller I purchased my set from is promising shipping this monday, we will see. From all my research any Tusk product for the Honda Rally is expected mid Oct... They are in stock for other bikes etc. but not the Rally...

    Very good video.. you helped me make my choice. I want the large silver for my KLR. I would think that the black would heat up food etc. And that the silver would be cooler for food and drinks from the sun. What's your your thoughts. White
    would be even cooler lol.

    • @kdemotorsports
      @kdemotorsports  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Glad the video was helpful, thanks for watching. I think the logic you have outlined above about the color is probably accurate and makes sense to me. I can’t really comment based on personal experience though simply because I’ve never packed food to pay attention to it. I also switched based on size and length of the trip so that usually pushed my decision more so than the color. I bought the black originally just because I liked the look of them better 😂 I ended up with silver due to stock and availability when I needed them

    Excellent review.. curious how they handle on 1090

    • @kdemotorsports
      @kdemotorsports  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      They fit really nicely on there and the bike handles the same with or without them. They stick out a bit further than I would like but that’s because they even exhaust and non-exhaust sides.

  • @johnp.5882
    @johnp.5882 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Very nice work, thanks for the effort! You answered my questions and I’m going to opt for the mediums on my KLR. I am a little apprehensive about having hard bags catch my leg off road - have you had an issue with that?

    • @kdemotorsports
      @kdemotorsports  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You're very welcome, thanks for watching. As far as the hard bags catching your leg off road this can happen. I personally don't worry as much about it because I ride in Alpine Star Tech 10's which are an MX boot and really really good protection. It can happen if something like a branch catches your foot and takes it off the peg while the bike is rolling forward. I've personally not had it happen to me, but I can definitely see how it would happen. So for me my answer is the boots. Hopefully that helps and again thanks for watching.

    • @johnp.5882
      @johnp.5882 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Your answer helps a lot, thank you! I was hoping I wouldn’t have to knuckle down for some MX style boots, maybe keep using my steel toe wellies, but I don’t think I can avoid them after all. Take care.

    • @keithjahn6031

      I personally had a incident just as you are afraid of , siding in loose gravel around a corner , I instinctively put my foot down and immediately the momentum threw my leg back and into the pannier. That being said , I love the panniers . I have the medium size on a Klr . I love the way they are removable and are so indestructible. Now I use bothe the soft and hard panniers, depending where my trip will take me . Nice video.

      Great video and a great question. I suffered a tib/fib fracture (7 breaks in 5 inches) and now sport a rod knee to ankle and I really want metal panniers but think I should go with soft bags. They were contemplating amputation of my lower leg last time so it's probably not worth the risk dang it.

      @@SkunkMonkey991 wow! I hope you’re able to walk OK these days, that sounds terrible. Since I wrote this question I’ve been through 2 iterations of bags: the Green Chili Adventure Gear strap system for 2 BDR’s and now just put on hard bags about 3 months ago. I really love the Green Chili system but decided to give the aluminum Tusk bags a go since I like the weight distribution and packing ease… we’ll see if I sacrificed convenience for health!

    Which size would you recommend for a DRZ400

    • @kdemotorsports
      @kdemotorsports  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't think the bike would drive the decision as much as what type of trips you do and how light you can pack. The small ones are always better from a weight perspective and if you pack carefully will be enough to do a 2 - 3 day trip without any trouble. Then if you do a longer trip you can add a tail pack or tank bag. If you're doing week plus long trips then I would probably say the large or you'll have to use a big dry bag across the back. Thanks for watching.

    Could you recommend a mount system for a 2018 1000 Vstrom xt , that I would be able to mount the Tusk Panniers on. I'm able to to do some modifications if needed. Great video
    Thanks.

    • @kdemotorsports
      @kdemotorsports  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m not familiar with those bikes specifically. Did you check if RockyMounyainATV offers tusk racks for it? That would be the ideal solution and I’d be surprised if they don’t have something. Also though you can mount these panniers on pretty much any rack system you’d just align the brackets and drill holes accordingly to attach them to the backing plate. Thanks for watching!

    • @NoWay-xu1ie

    I've been looking for the Tusk pannier mounting rack to fit a 2015 Suzuki 650 V-Strom. Can't find it. Any ideas?

    • @kdemotorsports
      @kdemotorsports  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They don’t have an option on RockyMountainATV? That’s surprising given the popularity of that bike. A note though you don’t have to use their racks to use those panniers. Any rack you can find to fit your bike will work. You’ll just have to drill the holes according to your rack setup. If the racks you find have quick attach plates you’ll use those and attach the panniers to them. But definitely check Rocky Mountain maybe call them. I’d be shocked if they don’t offer something for that bike.

    I'm curious as to why the camera keeps following you. Is there someone panning or do I just chalk this up to magic?

    • @kdemotorsports
      @kdemotorsports  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s the gimbal from DJI doing that 😀

    • @kdemotorsports
      @kdemotorsports  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually I watched this again and this one is not the gimbal and the camera isn’t following me. It is an illusion created in post production. I use multiple cameras at different angles and zoom levels. Then I shoot B-Roll to capture the close ups I want and edit them in after the fact. Didn’t want you to think the gimbal would automate all of this for you.

      @@kdemotorsports I enjoy the vids. Starting to really love ADV riding after doing TWAT last year. After owning a F4i, Magna, VFR800, I had to sell the KLR because the ride to/from Galena was so scary and anemic. Currently on a Royal Star (I love V4's if you haven't noticed) but looking at V-Stroms for fill my ADV habit. I looked at Tigers but may end up on a KTM at the end of the day. Despite all the information that's out there, seems like us bikers don't listen and have to learn from buying the wrong bike anyways.

    • @kdemotorsports
      @kdemotorsports  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Glad you're enjoying the vids. The TWAT is a great route, love doing that ride. I've been through my share of bikes too so don't feel bad about that. The ADV stuff is some of the most fun I've had riding and I came from a sportbike background too. Done my share of spirited twisties, trackdays and even some club level racing but nothing has allowed me as much enjoyment as this ADV style riding. Good luck on your bike decision!

  • @jasonthomas8398
    @jasonthomas8398 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I may have missed it on one of your videos; however, I wanted to ask what size panniers you have on your KTM 1090? They appear to be large when looking at them, but was not sure. I appreciate any feedback you can provide.

    • @kdemotorsports
      @kdemotorsports  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They are the black ones in this video. So the medium not the large size bags that are on there. However the racks for the 1090 are wide to clear the exhaust and they make them symmetrical that is why they look so big on there. That is also why I run the medium size most of the time on that bike. By making the racks that way though it does leave room on the side without the exhaust to add a 1 gallon fuel canister on the back side of the rack.

    • @jasonthomas8398

      kdemotorsports Much appreciated. That helps alot along with the video.

  • @JohnMRossi
    @JohnMRossi 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Well done. Overdone in fact. What is missing in a bag-size comparison is the perspective of these TUSK Bags mounted on an actual MOTORCYCLE. What a concept. I take as much gear on a 3-day camp outing (Weather gear, tent/sleeping & cooking + spare parts bits and other supplies) . . . as a 6-week expedition ride / camp outing. So, size and stowage was useful. But, the overall width and look on a bike as applicable to the common bikes that use these KLR or DR are likely influencing factors. In our case, a DR650SE. Still not decided.

    • @kdemotorsports
      @kdemotorsports  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching. You touched on why I didn’t show them on a bike and that’s because how they fit and look varies dramatically depending on the bike. I do have other videos on my channel that show both sets at various points in time on the KLR650 and the KTM 1090 Adventure since those were the two bikes I ran these on. Unfortunately though I can’t say which videos had which set on at a given point in time. So unfortunately I may not be able to provide you with the ultimate answer your seeking. Hopefully though it will at least help in your decision making.
