Supercritical Demon Core Oscillator 16 Oscillators in 12 HP

  • Supercritical's Demon Core Oscillator has 16 analog DCO oscillators in just 12HP and with the expander it can even be used as a polyphonic oscillator bank. The Demon Core is great for giant super saw swarm oscillator sounds or more subtle unison.
    To make a complete synthesizer with the Demon Core as the oscillators we added a System 80 Jove Filter and used a TC Electronic June 60 chorus pedal to complete the vintage Roland sound.

    Oh damn those analog super saws. Giggity. Wholly fuck it’s later in the video godamnnnn son! That’s amazing. Those are 100% the best unison saws I’ve heard on my phone late at night impulse shopping from a TH-cam tube video.

      I never heard of this module until yesterday when I saw it in a shop (Dupertuis Lausanne). Just patched the output directly to a mixer and was immediately blown away. Such a sleeper. I was only planning on buying one other modules so I didn't get this, but it's on my list now.

    I use supersaws more often than I'm comfortable admitting. That's why I'm pretty sure that I need this. I've got eight Pittsburgh oscillators, and it still doesn't sound as mean as this thing does.

    • @Zinfidel1
      @Zinfidel1 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I love supersaws too. They're great for a lead, bass pad, or drone. I recently got the Cloud Terrarium and that can create an 8 oscillator super- version of saw, square, triangle, sine, and any wavetable osc. There are 2 different oscillator outputs with 8 oscillators each so shit gets massive, fast! I basically love it.
      Though the Demon Core looks like a lot of fun. Especially the polyphonic capability.

      Once you start getting into that many oscillators, you're probably going to want to start going in the DCO direction. Just managing that many voices sounds like a bit of a pain. I couldn't imagine twice that many.

    • @FatSynthDude
      @FatSynthDude 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      When I had a Dot Com, it was fun. I'd just leave all eight oscillators plugged into the mixer. They didn't sound cutting like digital supersaws, but they could sound huge and powerful. I was trying to mimic that with the Pittsburghs, but for some reason, it doesn't feel like it gives me the same control as the Dot Com did. I've got the Klavis, Braids, System-1m, etc., but it's not the same as stacking oscillators.

    I use supersaws a lot. I have a sampler where I sampled my DeepMind 12 doing all 12 detuned at once and I use it to play chords. I also have an EssenceFM and I stacked like 18 oscs I think, all detuned, to make one huge supersaw that I can also use for chords. Analogue and digital supersaws have such a different texture, I love them both, and I use them both for different things. This would be a great way to get a supersaw on a eurorack!

      From what I've seen and read, you can control up to 4 groups of voices with the expander through CV; or there is a midi connection as well. I'm not sure if the MIDI allows for 16 voice polyphony or if its still limited to 4 groups of oscillators.

    • @PerfectCircuit
      @PerfectCircuit  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The module on the left is Maths which is used as an envelope generator and LFO for the filter, then there is the oscillator and midi expander for it. The oscillator is run into the filter which is then run into the VCA, the VCA has a built in envelope generator.

    • @ryanpwm
      @ryanpwm 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah it’s a hard buy to justify. What is less so is Assimil8or, which I use to do this. It has 8 voices and you can even layer loop on top in a single audio file.
      I end up just recording 1 oscillator or another synth several times and then multi sample. I also do this a crap ton with my OB-6. 6 voice unison X recorded 3 times in a row = 18 voices :) can use the channel cross fade or zones in Assimil8or for spread define control or just do it all by hand as if it’s a wavetable oscillator. But you can loop long samples or record a wave for longer than a note is ever held with randomized start time so you capture a bit more of how analog waves aren’t always perfect copies every period.
      Samplers are heavily under represented in rack stuff but the good ones are incredibly useful.

    • @tbeastie6873
      @tbeastie6873 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ryanpwm I would agree Assimil8or is a great option for anyone looking for polyphony. Plus you get so many additional benefits. I guess it comes down to what each person feels they need to make their rack feel complete. There is a nice selection of samplers now between Assimil8or, Bitbox, Squid Salmple, Nebulae, Sample Drum and Morphagene. Pretty much something for everybody!

    • @ryanpwm
      @ryanpwm 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@tbeastie6873 Absolutely! I wouldn't want to try the others, but it would hard for me to go anywhere else. I mean... 0.1ms trigger to output response time. That's insane and the best latency I've seen on any sampler.
      An MPC has 10-30 times as much latency. And I havn't seen any other euro manufacturer post any number better than 1ms on a digital sampler.
      But idk what else would you expect from the grandfather of personal samplers?

    • @tbeastie6873
      @tbeastie6873 3 ปีที่แล้ว
