Amazon description: “What is the ancient Christian understanding of today's UFO sightings? What is behind the Charismatic Movement? What phenomena are assaulting Christianity in our modern world? How can Christians avoid being caught up in the Apostasy?
ORTHODOXY AND THE RELIGION OF THE FUTURE examines in eight chapters these and similar questions facing Christians in the contemporary world. The religious phenomena of today are symptoms of a "new religious consciousness" that is preparing the world religion of the future. Phenomena such as Yoga, Zen, Tantra, Transcendental Meditation, Maharaj-ji, Hare Krishna, UFOs, the Charismatic Movement and Jonestown are presented in contrast to the Orthodox Patristic standard of spiritual life, without the understanding of which, in the coming time of antichrist, it will scarcely be possible for Christians to be saved.
This work is a concise and unequivocal Orthodox statement on contemporary trends; its urgent message rings loud and clear. Viewed from a foundation based in Patristic teachings, the spiritual movements of the day are clearly various spiritual deceptions that have existed since the beginning of the Church, rather than the achievements of a new religious consciousness. Addressing soberly and directly the trends of pseudo-spirituality which loom enticingly today, ORTHODOXY AND THE RELIGION OF THE FUTURE provides a beacon of discernment in these times of widespread spiritual deception. The book examines a broad spectrum of issues facing modern Christians--each from the perspective of the early Church Fathers. As the "New Age" is becoming a household concept and is moving into wider acceptance by mainstream society, the "new religious consciousness" can be seen progressing precisely along the lines described by the late Fr. Seraphim”.

My friend showed me a video on logos and essense from Orthodox Shahada and now I'm studying Orthodoxy deeper. Christ is objectively the master of the universe she says. Now we press on.

Love these readings and while I LOVE the addition of chanting I have to say I really wish the chanting volume was lower. More of a background white noise that you are aware of while absorbing the content vs the current volumes which somewhat competes with the reading and verges on flooding the senses to the point of becoming distracting. I’ve always been a silent study sort or study with a fan for white noise vs people who can read a book while jamming hip hop or heavy metal lol. So it might be just me. Regardless great work and huge service providing these books in a well done audio/visual format.

Thank you for the upload. Little did Father Seraphim know, but the Quran affirms that their God is NOT a Father to anyone and that to have a son is below him.

His understanding of Islam may have been more associated with understanding of Sufi Saints.

I kinda agree with that notion; however G~d can do as he pleases; I respectfully disagree with Father Seraphim Rose that if other religions have also experienced G~d, that Christ died in vain/for nothing; G~d does many and anything as he pleases; and as the human paradigm continues, many manifestations of G~d allow revelations of his existence, power, love, wrath etc. if G~ is one but can manifest as seemingly many; why is there a limit? Why does death stop there? I figured, unless I’m wrong and I totally could be, that his being arisen is eluding to/symbolic of/ grants revelation of life after death. Would it not prove that Christ was indeed and son of G~d but language can be misrepresenting some subtle nuance to the spiritual reality of the Situation. Just what crossed my mind; I’m open to being wrong or someone arguing against that (respectfully of course and I come at this with respect)
And I’m loving this book so far

    Baptism is like circumcision.
It is an act that proves one's dedication to acting in a way strongly recommended by the Living God.
Yet, our great, God-given faith in Christ's beautiful sacrifice is our real circumcision and our true baptism. Holy is the Lord. Power and glory and wonderous acts are the Lord's, forever. God's grace is sufficient for all belief to find its full fruit in God's glorious work in us. We really can't do anything to help God along. Who can resist the will of God? Who can bear God's divine justice? Can any believer boast of their own power, never! Does God ever extend His mighty hand and find it returning empty? No! All of God's intentions are completely fulfilled in the Lord's good creation and the process of God's plan for the universe created in the Lord's image, the light of life, the life of humanity, all of us the precious vessels of God's mighty Holy Spirit.
God's ways are not our ways. They are better by far. May all come to believe in the saving reality of the Living God!

Orthodox friends, I ask in all humility, it is my understanding that Orthodoxy does not teach the doctrine of Unconditional Election, what is the Orthodox Church's understanding of Matthew 24:22 and Romans 11:5-6 paraphrased in 14:08 - 14:30?

    Nam-Myoho-Renge-kyo!
"...When living beings witness the end of a kalpa and all is consumed in a great fire, this, my land, remains safe and tranquil, constantly filled with heavenly and human beings.
The halls and pavilions in its gardens and groves are adorned with various kinds of gems.
Jeweled trees abound in flowers and fruit where living beings enjoy themselves at ease.
The Divine Beingss strike heavenly drums, constantly making many kinds of music.
    Mandarava blossoms rain down,
scattering over the Buddha and the great assembly.
🌍🌎🌏 My pure land is not destroyed 🌍🌎🌏,
yet the multitude see it as consumed in fire, with anxiety, fear and other sufferings filling it everywhere.
These living beings with their various offenses, through causes arising from their evil actions, spend asamkhya kalpas without hearing the name of the Three Treasures.
But those who practice meritorious ways, who are gentle, peaceful, honest and upright, all of them will see me here in person, preaching the Law..."

The lady mentioned in this narration seemed to have not understood Vedanta properly. It is not about pride and going around calling one's self God. The fundamental conclusion is that God is the Omniscient Witness behind all created beings; when one removes the layers of identification with a human body - much like apophaticism - one will discover that only God / Spirit remains, and that He always was / always is and there is nothing other than Him. The 'Self' of all is God. It requires humility to arrive at this Self-Realisation, truly, not just intellectually.
In one quote mentioned by Swami Vivekananda: "“Do you know what obedience is? It is humility. When the right humility comes, egoism is destroyed and God is realized." I use that just for an example to refute what this lady was saying. There are thousands of more statements on humility one could find if they could be bothered.
She also mentioned that there is no need for faith in Hindu thought. Again, not true. In Hinduism, it is called "shraddah" which means more than just faith; it also equates to the drive one gets from having such a strong faith. Again, from Vivekananda, "Strong faith in God and the consequent eagerness to reach Him constitute Shraddha. Then comes Samâdhâna, or constant practice, to hold the mind in God. Nothing is done in a day. Religion cannot be swallowed in the form of a pill. It requires hard and constant practice. The mind can be conquered only by slow and steady practice." I'm sure that Orthodox monks will find much in that statement to be true.
Prelest: that is a big one and an important one. I know from Ramana Maharshi's writings that theurgy, magic and siddhis (minor miracles) are not to be sought after. I also know that there are other Hindu schools (such as the Agora) who see no problem with that. So, again, it's complicated.
In short, the exclusivity of Christianity and always claiming others to be wrong is off-putting. I continuously see Christians misrepresenting Hindu ideas or completely misunderstanding them - sometimes out of ignorance and other times out of malice. Not cool. I think Orthodoxy is the valid expression of Christianity, but you guys have to be more honest with your assessments of others. That's my 2 cents.
