    Great video. Simple techniques but hugely effective. Thanks for sharing. I always appreciate seeing new ways of speed painting.

    Very nice results considering the basic techniques, nice work

    To paint a black armor you only need 3 colors: (abaddon) black, dark reaper, thunderhawk blue. You can add an extrem highlight of fenrisian grey if you feel fancy, but it’s nor mandatory.

    So this is how I paint my black space marine army I dry brush light grey over black to give it a dusty look and dry brush led belcher to give it a warn look then wash over that with nuln oil and put some edge highlights on the sharpest points so yeah

    • @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring
      @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for sharing. We obviously use a very similar process. While I do edge highlight occasionally, I tend to avoid it if possible because my hands just aren't steady enough to get the job done quickly.

      @@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring When I edge highlight I brace my elbows on a table and use the edge of the brush turning the model using the base as needed

    • @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring

      Cool. Bracing my elbows would do nothing for me. You can see in a number of my videos that when I do fine details I have to brace the miniature and the base of my hand on the table. I can do it, but most of the time it takes way too long for it to be fun or worthwhile, so I cheat instead!

    Nice results with a simple method. Now that we've had contrast paints for a while, have you tried that technique?

    • @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring
      @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for watching. I haven't tried Contrast and I'm not really planning to. I think they're a great idea, and the results can be good, but they look a bit different to how things look when painted traditionally and I'm not so keen. Also not keen on buying a whole new range of paints!

    Hi nice tricks you got there. I just going to start w40k and i do want go Eldars Ulthwe and i think your first method would go nice whit there black eldars armors. I alredy have nice way to paint Bone elements. But i did want to ask for color sheme. I plan on Chaos black base first layer Eshin grey and small brushing layer of Administratum Grey whit highlights whit it in the end after shadowing, do you have better ideas than those colors i am open for tips becourse before i paint only medieval minis not sci-fi..

      Thanks for watching. They sound okay to me. Another way of handling black is to work with blues. I recently painted a panther, gradually adding blue to black before washing the whole thing. You might get some ideas from that video that are worth considering. You can find the video here: th-cam.com/video/dFGrcSPHz6k/w-d-xo.html

      @@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring Alredy watch it nice one to, but i prefer more gry sheme than blue. But i say i need to consider if not go half and half like Guardians go grey shame and Whraitguards go blue shame it would give more of varierity that living are grey and undeath Whritheguards/Whraith lord blue.

    Both of those look fairly grey and not black. I am fine tuning a method starting at Abaddon Black with a dawnstone drybrush with a very light white drybrush of white on the extreme points. Then hit it with contrast black templar. Not perfect but its getting there, thus the fine tuning part.

    • @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring
      @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's partly down the super bright lights I'm shooting under. They do look black on the tabletop. Good luck with your fine tuning!

      If you wanna post a video or something at some point, i'd love to see how it turns out. I've been messing around with the exact same theory with black contrast

    • @redcorsair14

      I did a light grey dry brush and its still too dark except on the pauldrons. I am thinking black primer/base light grey drybrush on the upper surfaces and a general white drybrush on the whole model to get all the edges pretty heavily then do the model with the black contrast. I balked at the white idea too at first but decided my dislike of edge highlighting made it worth trying. Lo and behold it seems to work fairly well but you need to make sure the white drybrush is pretty heavy on the edges. Turns out so subtle that you will only see the greyer areas in good lighting conditions but looks natural.Now I am having to figure out how to do the primaris chaplain with the black armor and a cloak. I might just wet blend with a nuln wash on the cloak part to make it stand out a little from the armor.
