One thing you MIGHT try. After you have the log pulled up and the two chains around the log, back off the winch, that way all the weight is on the chains and not the small cable and winch. Just a thought.

Great job! You saved a boat load of $ and the quality is better than anything store bought!

Your sawmill blades will be happy you’re using the log arch. Nothing worse on the blade than dirt filled bark from dragging. Thanks as always for sharing, looking great guys.

That is a very useful machine right there and with all that wood you are better off than a gold miner

I like the log arch, I want an arch built for rocks. Same concept as the one used for lowering vaults into ground for caskets.

Congratulations, You can tell you thought this through as you built it. I now an electric winch would make it easier but I think it would also add in additional failure points, dead battery, broken wire, etc. The only thing I would try, is to use a choker chain around the log for winching so it would tend to roll the log as you pick it up and put it down.

That log arch works great my neighbor has a portable saw meal inside a small building he has been cutting timber for 20 years and has made a little extra money on the side. He told me that he has gone through 3 motors which is not bad.

He has cut lots of lumber and tomato sticks I think it has a new 20hp Briggs Stratton on it that he replaced last year.
