I think people get confused because you don't actually see a hit. These are all theoretical for sparring purposes. The moves are so fast you miss the "hits", that's the sign of a true master. If this were an actual fight it would have been long over.
Kali uses sticks for sparring but those sticks are portrayed as bolo/sword in real fights. Kali is not for sporting purposes it was created to kill and kill fast.
Your fists should be used to fight your way to a knife, which can be used to fight your way to a pistol, that you can use to fight your way to a rifle - if you own anything more serious than that, and need to use it, you are using an area weapon.
Thanks everyone for your comments! Once again I thought it would be useful to draw the attention of many of the negative commentators to a fairly simple fact. Would you comment on a video demonstrating an armbar in BJJ with things like "I'd just stand up and stomp on him", or "I'd just start punching him, BJJ doesn't work."? Once again, this video is demonstrating one component of a complete system. As much as I'd like to be able to demonstrate all of Diamondback Escrima in one video, that would be quite a long one. Rest easy knowing that kicks, knees and grappling are all accounted for in the system.
True Master's indicate their art by showing it. Both of these men are Master's notably because of their skill, but also because their not "hiding" their art. Beautiful stuff, this for me is the essence of martial arts.
I see many ignorant comments here. Of course to the uninitiated, it would seem like 2 guys slapping. In the same way that a pure bjj match would look like 2 guys hugging each other over an extended period of time. But for us martial artists, we can already count the number of hits the other guy got in eskrima, or in bjj who has control of the fight (even if he's the one on his back). Watch the eskrima episode of human weapon in history channel. You'd see when jason sparred with one of the eskrima fighters, it seems the fighter was just flailing his stick mindlessly but afterwards, jason is already filled with bruises while the eskrima fighter was scot-free
Anyone calling these guys "hacks" or saying this isn't real martial arts is simply ignorant of fighting mechanics, drills, technique, etc. Also, this is clearly lighthearted (not even official) sparring for fun. Whether with knives, empty hands, or a broken pool stick I guarantee at 100% full force and speed either of these two men would DESTROY most, if not all, of your keyboard warriors' favorite MMA champs if similarly armed. It's designed for defense against and delivery of murder, plain and simple. It is meant for street fighting, and war. Throw your MMA fighters into a bar brawl or life-or-death combat situation with a group of master eskrimadors, and your MMA fighters will most likely be dead when the dust settles.

If you have to pick-up one thing from this video, it's this: Never, ever underestimate the mild-mannered nature of most old-timers. Especially in Cebu City (a known centre of FMA) of all places. It's one thing to just see it and think that it's two people flailing around, it's a whole different thing when you're on the receiving end of all those strikes. Saludo ko kang Manong.

As a beginning student in Canete Doce Pares, it fascinating to watch the real experts spar and train full contact. What I'm struggling with is when watching full contact one or two stick matches, it looks like a bunch of haymakers and wild swinging without any real mastery of defensive/offensive techniques. The mano mano is fun to watch, as well, but I'm not sure how realistic the trapping techniques would be against a street boxer, kickboxer, or someone who rushes in to tackle and take it to the ground. I also never see, even the top practitioners, training with fully resisting partners. It's always with compliant partners where the techniques work every time. Any feedback is much appreciated. Thank you.
When they play full contact at Doce Pares, they use the armour yeah? With the armour there's no real need to defend yourself as you're not properly punished if you get hit, so all you really see is that sort of flailing. It's hard to go full force against a training partner without hurting them, but if you have a look at some of our other videos you see how we do full contact cane sparring, (with just a helmet and gloves), where body shots really hurt, and more defensive movements are required.

It really is a shame drills like this seem to be kept out of the mainstream, this was truly an incredable display of technique and raw skill, the drill reminded me a lot of the Lap sau drill used in Wing Chun, beautiful to see in motion.
If this was slowed down you would truly see serious talent and unreal systems of defense and offence this was shit they did 600 plus years ago. I guess that why people comment the way they do., truth is some of the comments were funny and so original thanks for the laughs. Until its it slow motion it does look like two people trying to get out of the water when they jumped from an airplane and both got covered in the parachute panicking
I learnt few philipino arnis system from my Lima lama master a lot of years ago, I can witness that escrima is a real system and this two guys are very skilled, they could kill anyone in a matter of seconds, escrima is for survival not for bullshitting around.
Exactly thats why I have a gun, dont bring a knife to a gun fight, and guess what a gun could kill oyu in the matter of milliseconds with minimal effort
Wtf? there are a lot of ignorant people in the comments section. I've been training arnis, eskrima, and kali for 3 years, went to some tournaments, met a lot of good arnis players and these 2 dude in the video are really good. They are truly masters. I have played different styles of arnis and this eskrima stye might be just a child's play to you but it's really harder than you think. Eskrima was my first arnis style, and it was really a pain in the ass, i always got bruises and wounds after training. Then i switched to another style which we had pads, armor and go wild crazy about hitting the opponent. I'm live in the Philippines and the players from Cebu are the best, they fly, fast as lightning, and even has hidden techniques idk about. The point is, these masters know what they were doing, every move were reflexes. I tell you, when you get into a fight with these guys even without weapons, they'd still woop your ass.
The green guy is playing defense because Eskrima here in the Philippines is taught for defense. When i was training eskrima, everything i learned was defense, the offense were just all basic strikes but we mostly use defense in eskrima. In kali, we focus on offense, combo and dodging.
Never heared of or seen this before but the speed and control with which they moved was impressive. It is evident they have trained many many hours to reach this level of hand and eye coordination. These two men are dangerous no doubt.
this is so true...people recognize telegraphed moves as useful or the right move....i can see that most people in the comment section have no idea what they are talking about and if they think they can beat this old the are clearly ignorant and mistaken
I wonder what type of knife fight this would be. So close to each other and doing nothing. If it was a knife fight they would eventually die of blood loss since they kept touching each other's stick.
That's right John and your one of only a few people who noticed or at least commented about it. And you didn't make a nasty comment to anyone else or slag off another persons Martial art!! Respect to you.
sweetswing1 Yeah I creeped- I thought "who is this opinionated person who speaks with such controversy? Maybe they speak the truth and the rest of the world has got it all wrong..." Turns out your just another shit talking troll, probably taking it out on the world that nobody took the time to show them how to be a socially likable human and without those skills they now live a cold, hard existence, worried that maybe their golf skills wont help them come the zombie apocalypse. Talking shit may get you the attention that you crave but it will never get you the respect.
hi Junior. I think its around 24-26 inches its a little longer than the usual 24 i guess. possibly 28 inches assuming the guy from diamond back is tall person. i find the stick a little longer than the usual. the stick length though differs depending on the style/system of eskrima. some use the 18-20, popular is the 24 , some use the 30inches.
i read these comments and it's pretty clear that a lot of people cannot see the difference between wild gesturing and controlled defensive and offensive moves. It's pretty sad
its in filipino martial arts and culture to play defense unless told to "hit me" or "hurt me" contrary to the ways of thinking and other martial arts that the object for sparring is to prove you can hurt the other....
chad mercado To play self-defense? Sorry but the way I was trained was combative and never "defensive". We labeled it as "self-defense" because you can use it that way, but the way it was taught to me out of a garage was combative, meaning when presented with a threat you respond with equal and/or greater force.
+Ito Ke (Kageookami) Brother as you said, in your system it is customary to always defend against your opponent by attacking with greater force. That in itself is self defense, you are using defensive moves to counter an opponents offensive moves. Defense is not just techniques that defend against your opponents techs, it is moving and acting so that your enemy is crushed before you utterly.
+Diamondback Eskrima it's actually does even in our town, we do Eskrima as part of our Culture and belief it's always defense, if you master defense you master offense as well, because you know when and where to attack.
Hi... filipino here.... Next time you visit here in the philippines... kindly try to visit Master Jaime Quizana ... He is considered here as one of the best in disarming techniques.. you can maybe played with him a live stick fight...
Looked like a whole lots of stick clashing and "playing" to me, rather than a concerted attack by either. Tho i have no doubt they are both highly skilled, and either one would have no problem disarming/beating "lesser" eskrima practitioners, the fact is, you don't need that level of training/skill to handle 99% of street attacks (unless you live in Cebu i guess ) You don't need to be a 6th Dan to be able to defend yourself. Martial arts expertise promotes humility and good character. So the guy who swings a club or knife at you in the street is less likely to be such an expert. BUT i appreciate the dilligence and superfluous skills high level instructors/Masters have, in ANY art.
Daniel Thompson eskrima is not about flash, it's about functionality in tight quarters. The whole design of it is for self and family defense in doorways or other locations where you were likely to be attacked in the Philippines back in the 1600's. It's about getting the first strike in and disabling your opponent as quick as possible . It is not flashy, it is functional.
I meet some guys who knew the white guy, Greg Henderson when he was doorman at pubs in Christchurch NZ. From the stories they told, he's a legend. Taking on gangs and all kinds of hard men and beating them all. They could make a movie about that guys life.
TheDiamondProsGaming Good fighter! But sounds like those pubs were either very out of control or he was just a terrible bouncer. I worked the door with an ex MMA fighter years back. 6'5" 240lbs beast, loved to fight and got a lot of practice at the bar. I'm 5'10" 190 with zero martial arts background. I worked there 2 years without getting hurt or hurting anyone. Came close many times but I was always able to anticipate and deescalate situations before they got out of hand. Never had to lay a finger on any customer except to help them into a cab.
If you think this is slapping put the play speed to ×0.25 and you tell me they're slapping its just so quick you cant register much of there movements. Plus theyre like 60 haha
Another good comment as the Kiwi Grand Master is in his mid sixty's and the Filipino Grand Master I thinks is in mid 70s or older from what I remember when I was told about him. But don't quote me on that, I don't want to upset any of those guys, lol. Someone will put me right if I'm wrong. So respect your elders children, lol.
I think the conclusions I've come to will suffice. Seeing that there are no experts on the subject here with real experience. I think it's a reasonable assumption that this shit is bogus. I don't care man. This crap will get your ass handed to you by a real fighter.
Tom T. none of it is bogus. this is defense reflex training as well as stick fighting training. what looks like shits and giggles are well timed reactions to the others movement

rou this was a fighting style that the Spaniards had outlawed because soldiers were getting beaten to death by locals. don't ever think you can't apply this to real life.
it is an amazing demonstration of speed, control, and technique in such a close range. i bet most of the ignorant commenter will just hurt themselves if they do this.
I've always wanted to try Eskrima but I'm not sure there are schools in my area. This video looks like an excellent exercise in concentration and speed.
Many of you are in a privileged position, sitting in an air conditioned room, eating salami, commenting on a man who has practiced a lethal art since decades before you were born. One of these strikes landing can crack bone and rupture blood vessels, all from a 2ft length of wood in a space the size of a gas station restroom. That Grandmaster doesn't have a gym, dojo or whiskey endorsement. He learned on the street and from other masters like him. This art was used to fight against enemies with knives, swords AND guns. If he's close enough to extend his arm, you're in deep trouble. Go get your gun brave one. You'll need it.
If you look closely you can see them hit each other supposedly several times but stopping before impact I don't know if it's intentional or not but I can see the master in green shirt stabbing the other master with the bottom tip of his stick
Damien Percy clearly you don't see it, ever heard the guy filming hit hit? those are hits, but ofcourse if you dont know how it works you will never gonna know,
when I see two good arnis players, it looks like something I could never get good at in a million years, my brain doesn't process information that fast.
Wth man... if only people here supported this art more. Then maybe these guys don't have to live in such conditions. maybe... JUST MAYBE someone should go and create a "ufc" for this martial arts... (oh wait... people might actually die never mind)
We should be helping them anyway, regardless of the FMA. They are damn good people, and I would much rather see my tax dollars go to them, instead of ending up in the pockets of middle eastern dictators.
Pardon my ignorance, but I'm really curious now that I've seen it... what's the name of the supreme grandmaster? does he have any vids of him during his prime? or any demonstrations? I would really love to see those.

When they said play offense to supreme grandmaster, it's a hit hit hit in the stomach of that Australian master...
Yeah and with every parry theres a pommel strike to the ribs and sternum and a micro swing to the cranium.
Great Respect to both grandmasters. Never mind the average persons comments , eyes can't see what mind doesn't know.
No need for more explanation.
Wow, brilliant comment, says it all really.
Watching two masters have fun is very entertaining and rare. I can see both are smiling while sparing. thanks mate
It really is a shame drills like this seem to be kept out of the mainstream, this was truly an incredable display of technique and raw skill, the drill reminded me a lot of the Lap sau drill used in Wing Chun, beautiful to see in motion.
Tapi tapi and sticky hands are almost identical in principle. The one almost minor difference is tapi tapi is (usually) drilling vs an armed opponent.
the biceps on that old man. and his reaction speed even though he seemed like he wasn't paying attention...... damn...... respect.
Lol
corny amputa
Lol slowed it down still looks the same
Hit hit hit hit hit hit hit hit hit hit
I learnt few philipino arnis system from my Lima lama master a lot of years ago, I can witness that escrima is a real system and this two guys are very skilled, they could kill anyone in a matter of seconds, escrima is for survival not for bullshitting around.
mike Something exactly very few people here know about escrima. I studied several years in calbelas system.
Exactly thats why I have a gun, dont bring a knife to a gun fight, and guess what a gun could kill oyu in the matter of milliseconds with minimal effort
SatanicBeefCakes
But if you have a knife and can close the distance it’s better than any gun
Google Admin Gtfo here with your "google admin" bullshit. Lmao ban me "admin".
I fw ninjitsu 💯
Gordon Ramsey doesn't look impressed
Lol
What did you expect? He's Gordon Ramsey, he's never impressed.
Allan Covarrubias wtf hahahahahaha
can someone please make a lightsaber edit!!😂
Gabriel Guillen that's exactly what I was thinking.
Gabriel Guillen lmfao!!!!!! this video would go viral if someone did that 😂😂😂
😂😂
Light saber will destroy their hands
あた
Look at the muscle maturity on that Asian man. That guy has been shredded his whole life lol
Only one who noticed!! haha
Youngman lee most Filipinos in province are built like that, farm like, construction workers, mechanics. we eat just fish rice vegetables
Lol
Youngman lee i think hes a filipino
Michael Tyson im a filipino
No fancy studio, you have to come to their home to see the teacher and learn the old school way, love it! 😍
I don't understand the rude comments. Its always a please to watch a highly-skilled practitioner. Great video.
Wtf? there are a lot of ignorant people in the comments section.
A Kiwi grandmaster from Australia
visit philippines then.
Dane Mark Jo "they fly" lol
They be like "give me my stick back! it's my bamboo stick!"
that's not a bamboo stick... it's either rattan, kamagong, or bahi... (i don't know the english equivalent of the other two)
kamagong is an iron wood. My stick is bahi, a bit heavier and denser than rattan.
its a eskrima.. u can use this to a knife fight. to anyone said its useless, think twice.
this is so true...people recognize telegraphed moves as useful or the right move....i can see that most people in the comment section have no idea what they are talking about and if they think they can beat this old the are clearly ignorant and mistaken
John Doe they using sticks
Think twice indeed
You mean fap fight?
I wonder what type of knife fight this would be. So close to each other and doing nothing. If it was a knife fight they would eventually die of blood loss since they kept touching each other's stick.
People don't know how hard it is a hand to hand combat with stick. That'll get you hit everytime
just to be clear, they did not proceed with hits. both acknowledge when an opening was made.
FMA🤘
the old guy was actually sneaking small compact hits which just looks like random swinging to other viewers.
Correct!
No he just like slapping the dudes lover handers
That's right John and your one of only a few people who noticed or at least commented about it. And you didn't make a nasty comment to anyone else or slag off another persons Martial art!! Respect to you.
looked like me panicking trying to swat a bee
What is the length of the stick you are using? Beautiful art and deadly!!
according to internet it sholud be between 24-28 inches
sweetswing1
hahaha go back to your golf you ignoramus
sweetswing1
Yeah I creeped- I thought "who is this opinionated person who speaks with such controversy? Maybe they speak the truth and the rest of the world has got it all wrong..." Turns out your just another shit talking troll, probably taking it out on the world that nobody took the time to show them how to be a socially likable human and without those skills they now live a cold, hard existence, worried that maybe their golf skills wont help them come the zombie apocalypse. Talking shit may get you the attention that you crave but it will never get you the respect.
here you go- here is some attention, have a fulfilling life
I came from Guro Dan Inosanto demo in Smithsonian, another GM Ernesto Berdin. Salamat Sir sa upload.
if it was a real fight that filipino guy would've hit him many times when he says "play offense".
i read these comments and it's pretty clear that a lot of people cannot see the difference between wild gesturing and controlled defensive and offensive moves. It's pretty sad
TheMoguera jiikkk
Very cool! I wish I knew more about it. I can tell it takes a lot of practice!
Ginger Adventurez anyone can do it, just be gay and call yourself a "grandmaster" this shit ain't gonna work in real life
its in filipino martial arts and culture to play defense unless told to "hit me" or "hurt me" contrary to the ways of thinking and other martial arts that the object for sparring is to prove you can hurt the other....
This is a false assumption.
in eskrima offense is the best defense
chad mercado To play self-defense?
+Diamondback Eskrima it's actually does even in our town, we do Eskrima as part of our Culture and belief it's always defense, if you master defense you master offense as well, because you know when and where to attack.
i find this interesting. its cool but strange to watch when you dont know what it really is.
Good video most people don't seem to understand the concept of this almost forgotten martial arts
Clearly the fanny pack gave him the edge.
my son and nephew do this every morning
lol +1
OoCOLDasICEoO they're going to be some nijitsu jujitsu samurai masters in the future.
OoCOLDasICEoO Over the last pop tart?
it takes talent just to know and actually see the skill they have.
That supreme grandmaster must be expensive asf
But Eskrima/Kali/Arnis masters themselves knew that a real fight will last less than 10 seconds.
so this is what goes on behind the scenes of a tire shop......
Hi... filipino here.... Next time you visit here in the philippines... kindly try to visit Master Jaime Quizana ... He is considered here as one of the best in disarming techniques.. you can maybe played with him a live stick fight...
haloow win I want to visit some of the lady boys. Get like 3 of them. With a bottle of tequila locked in a hotel room. Yeee hawwwwwwwwwwwwww
Gilbert McCumhumphries Thailand have better lady boys though
If hes my grand father i will never make him angry..
dont ever ever try. ive been there. HAHA
he can swap that stick with a tsinelas and do much more damage to your ass.
BUT i appreciate the dilligence and superfluous skills high level instructors/Masters have, in ANY art.
yay I found the vide again even with youtubes stupid search algorithm! nice video, thanks!
Grandmaster and supreme grandmaster.!... tf.. with that title I want to see a hadoken fireball. Hahaha😂😂😂😂
alex u hot
Alex Roger lol same.. almost click bait TBH. I was expecting some triple backflip spinning kicks
You'd think that her body temperature would actually be on the cool side with the amount of clothing she's wearing..
Hahahahahahahahahahahhahahaha
Never seen a grandmasters anything wear a fanny pack..
Nick F in this fanny pack is shuriken stars 🤣😂
I meet some guys who knew the white guy, Greg Henderson when he was doorman at pubs in Christchurch NZ. From the stories they told, he's a legend. Taking on gangs and all kinds of hard men and beating them all. They could make a movie about that guys life.
Roadhouse
TheDiamondProsGaming Good fighter! But sounds like those pubs were either very out of control or he was just a terrible bouncer. I worked the door with an ex MMA fighter years back. 6'5" 240lbs beast, loved to fight and got a lot of practice at the bar. I'm 5'10" 190 with zero martial arts background. I worked there 2 years without getting hurt or hurting anyone. Came close many times but I was always able to anticipate and deescalate situations before they got out of hand. Never had to lay a finger on any customer except to help them into a cab.
The white guy was lose in that fight with the filipino master he was disarmed twice.
This is what I look like when I am driving and a spider happens to come down in front of my face
Without an in depth explanation I can't help but raise. Bs on this.
Tom T.
***** it's called being skeptical. If you believe anything you are told and eat anything you are fed, then what does that make you. Perhaps you are eating shit too?
truely fucking amazing!!!!......with age sometimes produce masters! this man is magic to watch!
carl marcelin Its really awesome.
Even his mates looked embarrassed.oh fucking hell here goes john again with his stick
In the movie "The Hunted" Benicio Del Toro and Tommy Lee Jones have a knifefight. Their movements are from this martial art.
Thank you for posting this. Nice.
I saw this technique on "The Color Purple" , when
Whoopi Goldberg and her Sister Nettie were playing Maki Da Da.
IntrigueDynamite lmao
How this will benefit you in real combat?
Brandons Opinion UFC doesn't use weapons you dumbo!!!
rou this was a fighting style that the Spaniards had outlawed because soldiers were getting beaten to death by locals. don't ever think you can't apply this to real life.
Jason Diaz didn't you see I was replying to someone who said that eskrima isn't effective just because is not on UFC?!? U blind bro... that
Saito samuraiX I only seen hand to hand combat in boxing in a street fight.
but your fancy brazilian jiu jitsu wont save you from a knife wielding maniac. this will.
looks like two lasses fighting over a handbag
They are both high level experts. Kali is easy to pick up like cycling. Should be cheap to start depends where you live.
Troll!
Did you even observe the surrounding? It was a tight space, no long range fighting nor footwork. Movements are minimal.
Randy TheRam your mom and grandmother
Try to play it in Playback Speed 0.25, then you'll understand.
it is an amazing demonstration of speed, control, and technique in such a close range. i bet most of the ignorant commenter will just hurt themselves if they do this.
I fought like this in 1st grade, i never knew i was a grand master all this time
YellowChocolate Then you should go back to 1st grade with that ignorance.
Manhua with reincarnated mc authors: WRITE THAT DOWN WRITE THAT DOWN!!
we proud our skills, we proud as Filipino not our corrupt government officials.
+Mario Flores Right on brother.
JustSome Dude just like us Americans, eh?
My wife in defensive mode! Oops, NOT! I don't have a wife.
Hamish McHarg probably because you're openly STILL saying "NOT!". Might wanna work on that. Lol jp
GOOD STUFF.....ENJOYED, THANK YOU FOR POSTING.
Imagine walking out of a bar drunk and seeing to grown men in an alley doing this.
man that old dudes got mad skills
.....wow. 2:51
the best part.
Respect to both of you 👍
I've always wanted to try Eskrima but I'm not sure there are schools in my area.
This video looks like an excellent exercise in concentration and speed.
Cool, thanks for posting this :)
there gonna hurt themselves take them sticks away from them old crazy men
amen
memyselfandi they will beat your ass I bet
Gerrod Gerrod maybe your punk ass but no man can or ever will beat me punk 203 and 0
This comment section is full of people who haven't even held an Arnis stick.
If you look closely you can see them hit each other supposedly several times but stopping before impact
I don't know if it's intentional or not but I can see the master in green shirt stabbing the other master with the bottom tip of his stick
grandmaster:"give me your stick!!!"supreme grandmaster:"no!you give me your stick!"grab grab!!!
I think it should of been K.O at 2:17
he got the reaction timed perfectly there
Looks like 2 guys that would get knocked out by me
joe mamma in a fistfight maybe but not weapon fight
joe mamma hahahaha. Direct me to a video of you fighting please.
anony man Escrima teaches hand to hand as well.
joe mamma wow scarry comment
You could die in one hit of that stick if you fight eskrima with him
plenty of opportunity to strike yet they dont. puzzling
not at all, they're not actually sparring, they're doing a training exercise.
Damien Percy clearly you don't see it, ever heard the guy filming hit hit? those are hits, but ofcourse if you dont know how it works you will never gonna know,
Lightning Aurora Chaos Oh.... Ok..... thanks for helping.
Some body will go to the hospital if those contact. Look at them as boxer don't wearing gloves right now. They r just sparing
Respect
Of true martial artist
And discipline
when I see two good arnis players, it looks like something I could never get good at in a million years, my brain doesn't process information that fast.
When I show my dad a picture and he scrolls through my gallery.
Wth man... if only people here supported this art more.
Eddie Steele Ty all. But knowing my countrymen. Pride is everything.
they do have WEKAF (world escrima kali arnis federation) competition where in the contestants are wearing armours, and use padded sticks.
People, PEOPLE! There are enough uniform sticks to go around, no need to slap fight.
Care to elaborate?
Close quarters ?
All fun & games until one of them gets a splinter.
Pardon my ignorance, but I'm really curious now that I've seen it... what's the name of the supreme grandmaster? does he have any vids of him during his prime? or any demonstrations? I would really love to see those.
Low key thought that was Gordon Ramsay in the back corner there just snooping around for his next cooking video 😂
