I am so impressed how you took a somewhat bad situation and still made a very good, positive video! Says a lot about both of your personalities. Very positive and strive to always have a good outlook on life. I was crushed to see you cry Kirsten :( but Joerg is such a lovely man, comforted you and helped you to feel better. I am very sorry what has happen but you did react in the right way. When you have the feeling it is not safe then it is not safe and when you woke up with a bad headache there is a fume indeed. I hope you both feel much better today.
The garden of the house you filmed was very awesome. The hedge at 12:18 looked like faces in a row😁. The kitchen of Mrs Crocombe is really nice and the pots and pans are so expensive and precious; typical for copper cooking items.

Vielen herzlichen Dank! Ja, es war die richtige Entscheidung sofort zu gehen, wenn es um Gesundheit geht, gibt es keine Kompromisse. Oh ja, die Hecke war einfach der Wahnsinn, wir lieben so etwas. Gibt es noch in Powys Castle in Wales und ist so besonders. Mrs Crocombe ist einfach klasse, haben nicht damit gerechnet, sie zu treffen. Ganz liebe Grüße

Still nice to see the place...it’s a shame your first stop off in Essex was just a unfortunate place you stayed in,and I hope it doesn’t reflect on your experience of the area in the future .
Thanks so much Susan! It came from the central heating in the cellar of the house, we think a leakage too. We feel a lot better again. Hope you're keeping well too. Definitely not, we want to return to Essex again.
Thank goodness no illness was caused by these fumes, it was good you received a refund but its a long drive from Cheshire to Essex and a ruined weekend break can not be replaced by a refund,
Thanks so much! Absolutely, it was a real nightmare and Joerg took Friday and Monday off so we could have a total of 4 days to do a lot of things there. We were quite exhausted on Friday night not only from driving with our detour to Belvoir Castle (which was beautiful though) but we filmed all day long, otherwise we would have left straight away but it was simply too far. It was okay to stay upstairs for the night.
@@KirstenJoerg I remember there was a campaign years ago, to make rented accommodation safer, because quite a few students were dying from carbon monoxide poisoning, Belvoir Castle is lovely, my wife has family (yes more family) near melton mowbray.
@@Phronsias1 I see! Yes, that sometimes happens in Germany as well, Carbon monoxide is very dangerous because you can't smell it but this one came from the heating downstairs (definitely heating oil).
You live and learn don't you and sometimes you just have to stand firm
Was it not possible to find other accommodation?
Sadly not, that would have been great but unfortunately English Heritage doesn't have many places to stay.

Some carpets and textiles if new are made with petroleum products. Might have been the culprit!

I’m so sorry for your horrid experience especially you Kirsten seemed terribly upset by the whole experience.You definitely did the best thing by leaving. You both looked so much happier and relaxed when you were home. Aww, I so very sorry that your trip was cut short. I know this was a big disappointment to you both, as it is always saddening whenever our plans get dashed and we are forced to return home feeling empty and unrewarded. It is, however, encouraging that your money was refunded, so now you two can plan for another adventure, and I'm predicting that the next will be doubly special. Take care, stay safe! I have such an aversion to strong odor. Rather harmful or not, I would have left. While it’s sad that things didn’t go perfectly, it’s nice to see the ups and the downs. Let’s us know you aren’t perfect occasionally ;-) - great video 😍

Oh my goodness, the home was so beautiful and the grounds. I am just amazed at the history. I totally enjoy being around historical buildings. If only the walls could talk. I am glad they refunded your money. That is a lot for a weekend. There are times when it is necessary to let establishments know what you find to be unacceptable. My poor husband always left these things up to me. He always knew when I was not pleased with a purchase or experience and he would look at me and I would say "hun bun you might want to wait outside while I chat with....." They need to know when things are not as they should be. I totally get your disappointment. I would have been crying too. I am very sensitive although some think I am not. So sorry you had to leave early but I was glad to see the house and Mrs. Crocombe, how cool was that!

Anyway, you still provided us with a glimpse of the house and grounds, thank you :-) Is so sad how many Jacobean houses were dropped to rebuild in a later fashion. to my mind they are far more beautiful than most of those that came later. Sorry for your experience, glad you are both okay - look on the positive side, you had a wonderful experience at Belvoir Castle and Audley End with Mrs Crocombe etc. I don't suppose the adverse publicity this video will bring to English Heritage will help them, but they have a legal Duty of Care to ensure that property the public uses, in any capacity, is safe and fit for purpose. I originally thought it might have been a carbon monoxide issue you had, but maybe not. I hope they paid some contribution towards your travel costs, fuel for a trip of that length would not have come cheap. Put it behind you and I hope you find another beautiful stay to share with us very soon. Take care. x
Thanks so much! Yes, we loved Belvoir Castle and Audley End so much so that was lovely. We actually wanted to support a non-profit organisation due to pandemic because we know how much they struggle and never expected it would come to this. No, no carbon monoxide issue because you can't smell that (the moment you could, you would be dead). It came from downstairs where the lodge had the heating and there was something wrong.

This is a very good video of your lives. How you handled the disappointment and Joerg, your strength for Kirsten really showed as well. Fumes can be toxic and noxious in the least and the house didn’t accommodate you very well at the beginning. But you made lemonade out of lemons and enjoyed your kitchen encounters. I watch their cooking videos too. Interesting way they cooked back then. I like the historical background facts, it puts things in perspective for me. Maybe you guys should get a mini sleep over type car. That way you could spend a night camping in a manor parking lot if you had to. Lol. Thank you for sharing. Well, I'm a new subscriber to your Channel. And I've been enjoying watching your past Video Collection. I'm very sorry about the fact that your stay was ruined. But with everything that's going on in the world. My philosophy is when life gives you lemons, you make lemonade. You did the best that you could, and it was an experience that you'll always remember. You got to meet Mrs. C, and that's a wonderful thing. Keep the videos coming. You guys seem to be a very nice couple. Always remember that the best TH-camrs and channels. Are the ones where life is real. And things just happened. The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly. Thanks so much Lyddie! Yes, we would have loved to stay somewhere else, however English Heritage only has about 10-12 houses in the UK so I think it wasn't possible. Mrs Crocombe is such a character!

The worse thing is that enjoiner said is nothing wrong , but one day they could get explosion from gas licking , fire or even loss of life. That will cost them a lot if they want find now what is happening.

I am so sorry that you had to cut short your weekend, Kirsten and Joerg. I really felt so badly that you were sad. I am glad that you made the decision to leave, as it does sound like there was definitely a danger for your health. And, I am glad you were recompensed and received apologies from English Heritage, which made you feel better. So disappointing for you, and such a shame you couldn't enjoy your stay in Essex. Saffron Walden is lovely - I live a few miles away and go every week. I must make an effort to revisit Audley End - I just wish it was a National Trust property, as I'm a member!

Well. If that was indeed the case than you two spent longer in that rental than I would have. Nope. No. Got to go. Glad you shared. What I was surprised at was the "interrogation". LOL Oh brother . . The house IS stunning. PRETTY PRETTY !
It was okay to spend the night upstairs which was okay for the most part and then we left first thing in the morning. Definitely the best decision. We were quite exhausted from the day of travelling and filming all day and it might have been too dangerous to go home straight away.
So true: not every travel experience is a fine one. This reminds me of the time my hubs and I rented a car for an autumn trip to Vermont--and the car was a lemon and kept breaking down. We hardly saw a thing, and to make matters worse, the leaves were already off the trees thanks to a freak storm. But you know what? The memories seem amusing in retrospect, another "adventure" shared by the two of us!
That's so true Cathy! Oh no, that doesn't sound like fun. Vermont always looks so so amazing with all the golden leaves in autumn.
So sorry you had an unpleasant experience after much anticipation, but if I may say, you looked very pretty! Delightful outfits and the colors really suit you. Love Joerg’s calm demeanor - he’s your rock! Stay well.

Dear Joerg & Kirsten. Kirsten my heart broke when I saw you so upset. You were so excited about your 1st little getaway after months of lockdown😔. I have always admired the honesty that you both display and this just confirms that fact by showing your vulnerable side. How delightful that you saw Mrs Crocombe in the flesh that was a bit of magic in an otherwise awful experience plus that the gardens are absolutely awesome.
