We're using a traditional wallpaper from Colefax & Fowler, an English brand that we have always loved. So while Joerg was busy papering the walls, I decided to bake a lovely German cake (gluten free as always): Donauwelle! We hope you will enjoy this video. Kirsten & Joerg x

CAKE RECIPE 'DONAUWELLE':
Ingredients
For the batter:
125g soft butter
125g sugar
2 eggs
200g gluten free self-raising flour (or regular flour)
2tsp baking powder
100ml milk
1 1/2 tins of cherries in syrup
For the dark batter:
2tsp cocoa powder
60ml milk
For the cream:
450ml milk
1 packet of vanilla pudding powder (or here in the UK vanilla custard)
50g sugar
150g soft butter
Glazing:
150g dark chocolate
15g coconut 'fat'
Method
1. Preheat the oven to 175 degrees Celsius. Use baking powder for the base of your springform (diameter: 24cm). Grease the edges of your springform and also use a bit of flour.
2. Mix your butter with the sugar and beat for a couple of minutes. Add the eggs one after another.
3. Mix your flour with the baking powder. Add the milk and fold into the batter (don't mix it together for too long).
4. Put half of your batter into the springform and smooth down. Now add the chocolate batter on top. Make sure to let your cherries drip off well, add them on top of the batter and press them down a little bit. Now bake the cake for about 30-35 minutes at 175 degrees Celsius. Let it cool down afterwards.
5. In the meantime, make the cream filling. Prepare the custard according to the instructions and let it cool down using cling film right after cooking so the custard remains smooth.
6. Add the butter bit by bit into the custard after it has cooled down properly using an electric mixer. Put the cream on top of your cake and put it into the fridge for several hours.
7. Now make your chocolate glaze in the water bath adding some coconut fat or something similar so that the chocolate top remains smooth and it easy to cut. Pour over cake, let it cool down and put it bake into the fridge for another hour or so.

My book has just arrived. After your recommendation I have purchased Pride and Pudding, what an absolutely beautiful 🤩 book. I didn’t realise that the same author also wrote the Oats in the North and Wheat in the South and The Downtown Abbey Christmas cookbook, both of which I bought last year. You'd both make great hosts if you were able to buy a Bed n' Breakfast or boarding house in the Lake District, the Cotswolds or Cornwall. Decorate it in Georgian style, make it pet friendly and specialise in catering for tourists who want the Jane Austin experience.
You have enough experience of staying in B&B's (both good and bad), so you'd know how to do it right. I know buying a large Georgian house in a tourist location would be ridiculously expensive, and unless one won the lottery, or had a wealthy relative who looked after them in their will, it could only ever be a dream. It just seems like something you'd be naturals at.
Just love watching everything you do from your renovations to your cooking and your dear sweet house. Much love.

I’m always trying out easy home cooked meals. Tomorrow night is pigs in blanket casserole but another fave is chicken with beacon wrapped around it, in a deep dish, some veg of choice, a can of cream of chicken soup, and sprinkle over breadcrumbs ( gluten free also a good option) and cheese made in a food processor, on top bake in oven till cooked. Also found a fab veg dish in dinner with mr Darcy called winter veg pie but there’s also a summer veg pie. I cheat with ready made pastry. Very lovely xx

Kirsten is doing a great job with the coking videos. My mouth was watering for both dishes. I like Joerg’s choice of picture. Always liked the stark look of a ship in a strong gale. It’s more contrasting with the blue. Wallpaper looks incredible. The lockdown is changing how people live and some people may want to stay with more simple, close to home lives. When we bought our house here in the US we took our time too and did one room at a time. It took us quite long to finish it all because we had a certain look in mind that we couldn't just go to a store and buy it. So we went on treasure hunts as much as our finances allowed it. But the end product was exactly what we wanted. And watching your videos reminds me of our renovation. Oh, and I love your chair, the upholstery is extremely beautiful.

Yes we shared in the previous video that we will hide the cable (when we mounted the TV) and didn’t want to talk about it again lol. We have done it several times and it’s fairly easy.
