- For those that may not know, The Box Chevy from 1977-90 is a very popular car, especially the LS Brougham and Landau models. This 1985 Caprice Classic Sedan spent if final years as a custom vehicle with a paint job, bigger wheels and probably a music system. All in all not a terribly bad looking car but it has it's share of dings, some rust and a worn out looking interior. It was missing the hood and carburetor so who knows how much water had possibly gone down into the engine. The bumpers were still in good shape though. I'm sure parts will be saved from this one as these are still very popular cars. I have an 89 Brougham and I must say I enjoy driving it.
Whoa Nelley, the box that no longer rocks. That's an Arizona iced tea carton. LOL.
We got the VIN, we win: 1G1 for US made Chevrolet, BN69 for four door Caprice Classic sedan, H for 305 V8 with four barrel, aka RPO code "LG4", 9 is a check digit, F for the 1985 model year, H for Flint, MI assembly and the rest is the production sequence. The Flint, MI plant was the Buick "home" plant and operated from 1904 to 1999 and was known as "Buick City".
We got the SPID, glad you did: A01 for tinted glass, all windows, A90 for remote deck lid release, B32 and B33 for front and rear floor mats, B84 for bodyside moldings, C60 for AC, FFL for Flint, MI assembly, GM8 for 2.56:1 rear end ratio, non-locking, K34 for cruise control, K64 for 115 amp alternator, LG4 for 305 V8 with four barrel, MD8 for THM700R4 four speed automatic overdrive transmission, NA5 for standard Federal emissions, N33 for tilt wheel, TR9 for lamp group, VK3 for front plate bracket, 31U for Dark Blue exterior paint, 27I for Regal Blue cloth interior trim, among other codes. That's an ignition cutoff device that you said, "What's this?"
Whoa Nelley, 1985 and took a nosedive. Box Chevy looking kind of heavy. That's it, time to quit. B body looking kinda shoddy. 305 and not soon to be alive. 5.0 and gotta go. Going to be flat and that's that. THM700R4 and soon to be out the door. The box was outfoxed. Tilt steering wheel, will it be a good deal? Going to get squished and the B body fans, many here, certainly Benny and for sure the Google Man are going to be very, very, very, very pissed.
The 77 l had would have been a good vehicle if it had an engine that wasn't wore out.
@@garymckee8857 The late 1970s Chevrolet V8 camshafts were "soft" and went bad fairly quickly. A good aftermarket replacement solved the problem. Many were replaced under warranty.
@@googleusergp Mine was a washed out rings, gas was getting in the oil.
@@garymckee8857 Sounds like a real "washout". LOL.

These used to be everywhere. My dad had a 78 impala wagon. NYC in the 80s had these everywhere as yellow taxis
Dam bro , what junkyards are you hitting, you keep finding treasures . Love your videos. RESTORE THEM DON'T CRUSH THEM ! 👍🏼🍻
My dad had a two door one of these back in the day. Rare bird even then.
I had a 2door as well. I have a 4door 89 now
Mr75Caprice restored the same Box Chevy on his channel. Thanks Benny for always providing us with great content.
These cars wer bullet proof , back in the day, and best part there parts were interchangeable with other years except the 70's that is!
One of my high school buddies bought an '89 box Caprice back in 2001 for $500 just to use as a rammer. It was in good shape, a little rough but it was a good deal for him.
I love the box Chevys Benny, always one of my favorite body styles. I like the sport mirrors Benny.
thanks benny .the time you spend making your videos is impressive ,im an old school junkyard hunter like you .the thrill of finding something special is the reward; keep up the good work ,in my day a trip to the yards was always exciting
Always liked these. Had a maroon wagon version for a number of years, great ride!
Benny and the jets hood ride happy new year.
Always ❤️a Caprice! Bad taste in wheels tho🤣
That one is roached for sure, brings back memories of the 2 box chevies I owned so many years ago. Great driving cars and comfortable
Happy New Year !!!
Seeing her junked brings tears to my eyes, the boxes are my 63's or 64's. I personally like the 4 square headlights they look classy to me . This beauty still looks very good to me. I almost died in a 1990 caprice brougham in 2005 she got twisted up,broke the steering wheel off and she was unrepairable but if I had been rolling my sexy teal 91 rs at the time I wouldn't be alive . The junkyard or yards you post atseem to get much newer and collector cars than we do here and we have outrageous late fees on tags which makes people junk nice vehicles due to hundreds to almost 2k in late reg fees
I had a 1978 Chevy Caprice that was third hand. It must have been a stripped down version of the model you just featured? 2 barrel carb, nice vinyl seats & one wheel tire peeler. I got it as a basket case & ended up junking it a few years later after dumping a ton of money in it. The motor was simply worn out I was told.
I bought a 1983 Chevy Impala third hand after that & that must have had a “Police Package” in it? It had the 4 barrel carb but the basic vinyl seats, posi traction and air conditioning. I loved that car. It was “mean looking”. It had been side swiped previous to me owning it. The previous owner pulled out the crease & dents but left the holes from the dent puller. Those holes to those less than knowlegeable appeared to look like bullet holes 😅. Every body panel had a dent or crease in it. Mismatched hub caps & what looked like someone threw brake fluid on the hood so the paint looked whitish & stained. I loved that car! Everyone avoided me on the highway because it looked like I didn’t give a fuck? You wanna play bumper cars with your nice sedan & you’ll lose. Unfortunately after years of driving in the rust belt everything was rusting on it. Every possible fluid except the battery was leaking on it. Everywhere I parked it there were puddles of fluid everywhere underneath it. Bottles of stop leak later couldn’t stem the flow? I started a new job & they were very persnickety about their property. They got upset when my car left streams of automotive fluids in their parking lot. They were nice the first time. The second time they told me to not park my car at work anymore. I parked it in my driveway & used it for driving on short runs around town. Before I got rid of it I used it as a platform for installing lights in my garage. The roof, hood & trunk all buckled from me standing on it. I was sad to see it go 😢. It’s time had come. I pulled the battery & the radio & said goodbye. I paid the American Heart Association to take it away in 2004. I still miss that car but it couldn’t be saved. I had a Grateful Dead sticker on the back “Bearlimovin” (a take off on another “ Fuckingroven”
Another great video Benny. Happy New Year!
My parents had a gray '81 Caprice sedan with regular hubcaps when I was a kid. I really like these but I do prefer the late 70's Caprice and Impala coupes when it comes to the box version.
This Box Chevy use to be nice cruiser 4 years ago till someone gave up on it now it serve purpose as parts car are those 20sor 22s if there not bent or scratch worth saving.
There’s a man that works at my local post office that still drives an old square Chevy just like that one. Except the paint and body are in a horrid shape. I’m surprised the car still runs, but it his daily driver.
I had the 96 bubble I want the box next
The body is in nice shape. I would buy it and rebuild it with a new motor and trans
You better get that side window glass just in case they break into yours again
I've been trying to find one as a project for years but I can't find one unfortunately since where I live 80s Chevy always translates to Squarebody Truck
Weren't you looking for a set of the rear taillight panels as you damaged your a few years ago? These are clean! Just need to paint them white though. Wouldn't hurt to get some spare parts for your box Chevy such as the tilt column and grille! But man those wheels are FUGLY. I hate those type of wheels on classics. I prefer the original rims with hubcaps and whitewalls haha
Mine in an 89 so it has different taillights. I was able to find the replacement for the one I broke. I have since decided to try and fix the column I have unless I find the right color from a Caprice.
@@ClassicRideSociety Didn't know you already bought a replacement, that's great! Hopefully you'll find a steering column in the right color, thanks for the videos! 👍Please don't forget the "Kim Special" shoutout on the Ferds haha!😂
Man I smashed a bunch of them up in the derby’s over the years
At my local dirt track, a woman won the 2022 Pure Stock title with a '77 Caprice. She was and is the "track favorite."
Sorry man accidentally hit the down arrow. Do us a favor save that front header panel and front bumper and the tail lights they are impossible to find
such a shame to see that crushed...what's considered rough in Texas is not the same in Maine...no rust...save it, at least as a Mainer, I would save...
I had a 77 model that was in excellent shape but it had a wore out 305.
First 😍 Nice wheels, I like the blue color.
What those Getto wheels
We drive does in Mississippi wish yea could donate one to me or sell one .
Hey ,you could have had you a real set of hoopty wheels.
Man, those wheels are ugly. They would fit better on any of those random modern plastic "cars". I like the boxy Chevy but this ones front end looks kinda different from the cool looking model. Plenty of usable parts on it though...
No dents no rust Car looked like it was in pretty good shape Why was it in a junkyard?
