Regarding the gore photographs in the newspapers, I never liked them. Neither did anyone else in my family. Always found them distasteful and disrespectful to the victims.

By the way, in my hometown of Ciudad Juárez there's this newspaper called PM that was especially infamous for this. I'm trying to find their website but I'm coming up empty, maybe they're no longer in print.

Jose Manuel Perez The first thing that I thought too, the PM. It's very hard to forget it, but was more chocking that eventually we got used to it.

As a Mexican, I've always thought that modern piñatas in kid's parties are weird. I mean, traditional ones make a lot of sense because of the spikes and what those mean, but this whole idea of buying a piñata of a character the kid likes so everyone beats the hell out of it is so strange! I've seen kids crying because they don't want to beat the piñata at all. Anyway, that's just me. Great video!!

    • @andreawisner7358
      @andreawisner7358 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I've seen kids crying for that too, but in a way it's a good idea because it teaches kids not to get too attached to cartoon characters. Be attached to your family, not imaginary friends or whatever. But it is traumatic. When I see those kids crying I want to cry too.

(Mexican here, born, raised and still surviving in CDMX)
TL;DR: Violence and sex sell really well. Those newspapers know that, but sex imagery is regulated; violence is not. And there's the result.
--> Ok, so, the main problem with graphic newspapers is divided in three:
    1. There's no proper regulation for that kind of violent contents in printed media, much less its public exhibition.
    2. Unfortunately, there's a lot of people who actually buy those newspapers, not just for the violent imagery, but also for the (very) sexual images they have inside.
    3. Ironically (like really, wtf), there's a lot of regulation for sexual content in printed media, so _you'll almost never see sexual contents as easily as graphic violent ones_.
// In conclusion, those newspapers know very well that violence and sex sell really well. But they keep the sexual stuff inside, while the violence is on the front page. And for now, most of us have to endure that kind of shit. Fortunately, this may be a bold statement but I do think most Mexicans do not read that kind of contents. A lot of them do, but most don't.
EDIT: Forgot to mention the most important thing: I love your videos. Really. You're very good doing this, sir.

    • @TrueMexico

That "genre" of newspapers is called nota roja. Violent crimes, accidents, anything gruesome that appeals to the morbidity of some people. It's been around for over a hundred years and as Carlos said most people don't read it, cause let's be honest... it's literary or journalistic value is almost non-existant, nontheless it has it's audience.

Carlos Etergen you forgot to say that those kinds of media at targeted for the poorest or "lower classes" you can notice in the language of those "red note" newspaper , even in the announcements you can notice that and they are cheaper than the "real newspapers"... That's because we have a huge problem and bad wealth distribution, and there is people who benefits from that :( i love my country but it is also very very shitty in many ways

Believe it or not, being Mexican, I found same things strange and uncomfortable as well, is very uncomfortable seeing those gore newspapers, restrooms without seats, and as I've lived in the States, and travel to many cities in Europe, US and Canada besides Mexico, the only thing I remember really strange and uncomfortable was a restroom in a French highway, in a rest area, where the restrooms doesn't have toilets, at all, just a really weird hole at ground level with two footprints guides on each side, of course I didn't use it!

Anyway, the toilet seat, or lack of, is common in Brazil as well. I'll let you know if it is the rest of Latin America as well in a few years. In Brazil they gave the excuse that toilets are never sold with seats. Well yeah, they're sold separately everywhere, that isn't an excuse. I notice over 50% of homes lack toilet seats also.

At a certain point, we might give up on insisting and start eating ourselves. Possibly finding the opportunity later on, in between bites or after everyone has finished eating, to make fun of you some more, e.g. "Estás enamorado o en dieta?"

In the 70's and 80's, there were two newspapers in circulation in Mexico City which were especially gruesome. Some of my "paisanos" will remember them. They were "Alarma!" and "Alerta!". Cheers! BTW, I laughed at your first section about Detergente Roma. It's a staple on public bathrooms.

It is also weird how the second pages of those newspapapers have a softporn image normally. The combination, and the idea that is better to have that on the front page have always puzzle me. Eventhough that red press has a long history in the country. I recommend you to look for the photographic work of Enrique Metinides.
