I have loved all the new characters for season 1. Austin! @30:56 I would very much encourage you to bite the bullet and run Blades. Of course there is no one singular best RPG system, it all depends upon the type of game you want to run and the personal preferences of the players and how they interact with the group as a whole. ... but Blades in the Dark is the best RPG... Personally when I first ran it found it easiest when I ran it to put aside the crew management for a while to get players used to heisting, and drop them in later if you so feel. Also it is the only game in almost 3 decades of playing TTRPGs that I've used the setting straight out of the book because the way locations and factions work both gives enough information to be really useful (esp. who each faction is allied or is enemies with) It honestly would very much suit the style of games you're already running.

The campaign title being a reference to the City of Doors and the portal subplot is _genius_ and I'm disappointed I didn't figure that out myself
I'd like to have seen Isaac Asimov take a whack at the Open and Shut detectives. He wrote mystery short stories as well as all of the sci-fi.
