Well it is wonderful, isn't it? But I would suggest Eric Korngold's violin concerto mvt. 2 with Pearlman playing might be better? Beethoven was a genius and the musical world could not have achieved what it did without him. However, listen to Korngold and tell me he was not also a genius. The first time I heard it I was screaming silently into my pillow during a spell of severe clinical depression unable to feel any emotion at all, only pain, not able to walk, talk, eat or do anything except listen to the radio. I agree. It just burns through the soul completely and cannot be beaten, although I really like Prokofiev Concerto 2 mov 1 when it almost reaches the end of the first movement and the cadenza kicks in. It's brilliant and so strong. The section your referring to is the most beautiful, and could possibly be the greatest 30 seconds in music history. Although other 30 seconds of music, such as variation 18 of Rachmaninoff/Paganini rhapsody on a theme hits me harder with emotion than this and variation 11 of liszt/paganini etude 6 is beyond the definition of epic, this just is simply the best.

The difference between Beethoven and Mozart is that while Mozart helped you hear the complexities of music, Beethoven helped you FEEL them. Beethoven was able to construct melody upon melody and build themes unlike Mozart was able to. Mozart had some of the most developed and ingenious pieces ever put to writing, however Beethoven’s thematic prowess is unmatched. +Christopher Sharp Haha, actually... Beethoven wrote the Emperor concerto while being attacked by Napolean's army. He had to hide in a basement and composed this masterpiece under such scary circumstances, which is really remarkable when you think about it. His hearing was deteriorating and those canons weren't doing him any favours, so he was frightened that he would be completely deaf at the end of the siege. Something remarkable also happened to Beethoven that he obviously had in mind while composing the second movement... true love, yay! His 'Immortal Beloved' showed up in his life around this time, and you can hear the love in this music from it. :) Sooo Romanitc!!!

+Christopher Sharp While I get what you're saying and agree that a masterpiece like this is beyond words, you cannot disregard the fact that the act of listening to this music may physically relax the muscles in certain people. Perhaps try not to lose sight of the literal implications when an adjective like this is used to describe music. Nothing to get frustrated over.

This is the absolute essence of my soul and for the ones who believe I can even imagine that came from a different life time of mine because it touches me so much in ways that I can't use words for you to understand. That's the music I wish was playing my entire life, that's the music I wish someone was playing while I was born, I wish was playing in the birth of my sons and even when on the last minutes of my cerebral activity, just after I died, I wish it was the one soundtrack for all my life to pass me by my eyes

Beethoven followed a more classic strucure in some concertos but knew perfectly how to bring back the same melody in different forms. I cannot say who is a better compositer but you cannot say that Mozart was far less talented than Beethoven. He created the perfect balance between the piano solo and the orchestra in a piano concerto which was causing trouble to compositers before him. Both are genius and both are to be respected.

This helps with my anxiety at work especially. When you are in a vunerable situtation this will snap you right out of it. When you think everything is falling apart this will help relax you.

No other piece had made me cry this fast, just one and a half minutes in and I already had tears running down my face. This is one of the most beautiful adagios I've ever heard in my life. Absolutely magnificent

This was used in the movie “Picnic at Hanging Rock”. First time I had heard it way back then. It never ceases to move me.

I was playing this one winter evening when the main door sounded and in came a woman softly sobbing. The sound grew clearer until into the room peered mother with news that beloved grandma died. Saying nothing, I just kept on playing, as thought the music I was drawing from the keyboard was a pain-repellent. Could not stop the fingers and so on and on I went with Ludwig Van.

+viborrr I was about 12 years old and sitting at the living room piano playing Fur Elise when I over heard my parents say that my grandad has passed. I kept playing.

+catnokimochi Thank you. We all have losses. What makes life worthwhile I guess are the gains...gifts that keep on giving, like this piece of music which will never be lost as long as there are people living.

"These are the tears of things, and the things of death touch the soul." As soon as I read "beloved grandma died," I burst into sobs, deep racking sobs. For me is now the long wait.
