Project CARS 2 --- The Race of Two Worlds [Watson Roadster @ Monza Oval]

- The Race of Two Worlds was envisioned as an 'All Star Race' for the best IndyCar, World Endurance Championship and Formula One cars and drivers. The event was hosted at the infamous Monza Oval and was a 500 mile race split into 3 "heats".
The event was held in 1957 and 1958, but was dominated by the Americans in their Indy Roadsters, Jimmy Bryan winning in 1957 and Jim Rathman winning in 1958.
Today I will recreate the Monza 500 in Project CARS 2 using the 1963 Agajanian Watson Roadster of Parnelli Jones... can I become the 3rd winner of The Race of Two Worlds?

Yeah Indy has the "short chutes" which make it unique to other American ovals.
Well yes and know. We count one corner of an Oval track as two because they/were generally 180° so entering the first part 90° was one corner and the exiting 90° was another. At Indy the corners are counted as one cause they are only 90°. That's the best I can come up with. A 180°corner back in the day had two apexes(even today).

That was just too cool to watch you race! My uncle Jim Rathmann won the actual "Race of Two Worlds" in 1958 in the #5 Watson Roadster.

I tried it with g29 and 69 camaro. 6 laps._. Was doing good with the wheel giving me white knuckles, but i forgot that i had programmed a blizzard to come in and it sure did on the 4th lap, hard and heavy which caused me to die horribly. Never again! I swear upon the bones of my eternal forefathers will i do this race again! (cant wait till next time!)

Would have been awesome for Ascari to have been in these races. Unfortunately he’d passed away two years prior to them, ironically enough at this circuit at the corner that now bears his name.

For the first minute or two, I didn't realize this was a video game. I've read that though the Indy cars dominated the 1957 race, during the hour break between heats, the Indy cars required extensive repairs to their suspensions, while the Jaguar D-types simply refueled and changed tires. I would love to see a 21st century revival of this race, perhaps at Talladega this time.

The actual race was run counter-clockwise like Indianapolis - not clockwise as was the case when actual f1 races used the banking.

These roadsters are tops in my book. The way racing open wheel cars should be. These look cool sound terrific and no damn computers. Great graphics on this game. Lets hope it doesn't rain.

I died in this race. VIOLENTLY!!! It was horrible. Bones crushed, masses of flesh ripped off my body, vicious impact trauma..., all while simultaneously being burnt to a crisp.

In the UK, the only Oval we technically have is the Rockingham Motor Speed on Northamptonshire and for us it would only have 4 turns. The oval is not used a lot anymore but the inner circuit is used a lot, notably for the British Touring Car Championship!

It was a 2 way battle for the win [John Marcuson Sr | Watson Racing vs Michael Stewart Alberto Gonzales Motorsports] they were battling for they were battle then when they got they got to the turn on the Oval turn they were on both on the inside of the track Marcuson was on the outside and Steart was on the inside John Marcuson Sr turned Michael Stewart hard into the outside wall then Michael Stewart went over the fence and his car went into flames.
The medical crew got to him then rushed him to Hospital but they couldn't save him and that was the year John Marcuson Sr won his 24th championship
and Michael Stewart won 6 championships [1914, 1915, 1916, 1917, 1918, 1919]

One glaring error in this simulation.The race was run in a counter-clockwise direction (left turns) rather than the European clockwise standard. This was to accommodate the weight bias of the Indy cars for left-hand turns. In the second Race of Two Worlds, the ElDorado ice cream company commissioned a purpose-built Maserati to be driven by Sterling Moss set up like an Indy car rather than a F1 car. It used a de-stroked 450S V-8 engine. Moss was doing quite well with the car until a broken wheel put him out of the race.

I was always so confused as to how Americans found 4 turns on an oblong, I learned something.
well the reason is there might be bumps on the track or a crash in one part of the turn which makes it different from the entrance, btw Indianapolis is 4 turns for real there's tiny non banked straight-aways called short shoots

Can you please Answer this. You said the banking is really bumpy and stuff. I just got my new wheel, G29. I love this track but when i go around it i don't feel like bumps. Some times but it doesn't feel deadly. Do you by any chance had a feedback setting?
Is project cars 2 a vast improvement over PC1 or just more cars & tracks?
To bad they couldn't put the old Ontario Motor Speedway and run the road course. They had F-1 v. F5000 race there in the mid seventies. Not sure the exact year.
Miatacrosser F1 at Ontario is non championship race and only run at 1971

1. If it's Monzanapolis... where are the Jaguars? The Ferraris? The Alfas? ;)
2. Monzanapolis had an anticlockwise run, just like US-Oval racing, so the sense in this video is wrong ^^;

"That is not accurate" I kinda gave up on that when I saw the Nascar cars still had the generic pit stop instead of the unique Jacking up on either side. Still fun though.
Also, what Hauppauge device were you using for game capture? Wondering if its the one I'm using and I miiiight be considering switching.

Ah, so it was the same. Way better then the first HDPVR, but good lord I hated recording videos with it at times. It had the annoying habit of either having sound but no video, video but no audio or being very badly out of sync (in addition to low frame). Got it for cheap because "Oh hey, I can trade in this oversized cable box ripoff for something smaller AND better" and it was at the time the best option for the PS3. Now that I'm on the PS4 though and after testing it out last year, I've been thinking its time to change to something else. How easy is the Elgato to use in comparison?
