This is the most returned tv at best buy right now. I was so tempted to buy, it has been on sale for months, even before it was announced to be discontinued. Unfortunately the issue with it is major, the cpu can not handle the quality of the screen, let's just say it like that. Response time is bad, motion is bad, loading apps or switching between apps will sometimes cause the screen to freeze. Now, it has a great picture quality, hands down the best picture quality for the money, it can't be beat. But you won't be looking at a still picture, I don't think anyways lol. So nope, don't buy it. making this video for content is great, but for anyone watching stay away from this tv, even with the massive discounts is not worth it. You will be extremely annoyed by it all the time. Also, LG just came out with C2, so the C1 are on sale almost everywhere and a 77" C1 can be bought for $2000.

It's not really the economics of it, as much as its very very difficult to get two LCD panels to be perfectly synchronized. The last CES I went to was in 2017 and I remember seeing HiSense touting this. I remember thinking it was a great idea, but too bad it's from a questionable name. I remember thinking the same thing about TCL years earlier (especially when they were using the RCA and GE badge names) and that they had become respectable. Last year, I saw a few YT channels singing the praises of HiSense and I though, cool, now what about that tech of the 1080p screen controlling backlighting for a 2180p screen. Well, here it is, and there it goes.

Love seeing inky blacks right next to a bright part of the scene. My only issue is there is motion blur as mentioned. It’s really not that bad. This feels like one of those "why did noone think of this before" technologies. Except of course the reason noone did it before, even if they did think of it, would appear to be the complexity and presumably power draw. Still seems like it has big potential though.

I had high hopes for this technology when it was first announced. I had envisioned a TV with a super bright mini-LED backlight, a 1080p 240Hz VA black and white LCD panel, and a 4k 120Hz IPS color LCD panel with the latest Quantum Dot color conversion layer built into the polarizer at the front of the screen. IPS panels typically offer better viewing angles and color accuracy (especially when viewed off center), while VA panels typically have less light leakage and faster response times, making each panel technology better suited for either the color filtering role or the light filtering role respectively. Assembling the two panels this way would effectively give you a 240Hz VA "backlight" that would allow for a quasi black frame insertion technique where the VA panel would always operate at double the refresh rate of the IPS panel, alternating between the image being displayed and a full black screen for better motion handling, and would even work with VRR turned on. When watching movies and other "passive" content the mini-LED backlight would also offer local dimming for the best possible contrast, but when gaming the local dimming would be turned off for lower processing latency, using just the two LCD panels to still give you deeper blacks than any typical LCD could offer with brighter highlights than any existing OLED TV is capable of. It's a shame Hisense didn't keep going with this tech and improve it further.

I was waiting for monitors to finally develop the technology for a budget-friendly reference monitor with only 4px area bleed for a 1px specular pixel on a 4K colour panel without ever having to worry about OLED burn-in. So much of my use case has scopes, timecode, and timeline that's bound to create burn-in even on the newest OLEDs.
It also doesn't help that even QD OLED dips really quickly above 10% full white window all the way down to ~200cd/m2 at 100% window.

It would be tempting at a much lower price. Looking at Rtings, this appears to suffer from another Hisense TV issue, which is that it can't properly take full 4k120 and has to use subsampling which makes text and details look fuzzy and wrong. Between that, ghosting and processing slowness as well as some color banding, I think it's too many caveats even for the $2000 price at 75". If you're looking at the competition, the prices aren't far off there, especially if you aren't necessarily buying right now and could wait for sales on the C2 lineup, or don't care about the evo panels and go for a discounted C1.

One of the issues with increasing local dimming zones is the processing power required to run them. I have been saying this for the last couple years, but What I don’t get is why they couldn’t just duplicate the signal use the luminance and apply that to the backlight array. You could even just scale it similar to how they handle the overlapping panels here, but it completely mitigates the need for a second panel and deals with the low resolution blooming issues of current lcd displays.

The TVs for the European markets are typically made under license to use the brand name by other manufacturers. The product line-up is totally different and will be of wildly different quality too. There's a few flagship models that will be imported in as per the original spec but for the most part the product lineup will be different.
At a guess, you're probably best off going with one of the TP Vision/Philips OLED models provided your usage isn't likely to cause issues with screen burn. They're not the very best TV that I have seen for everyday viewing, but in terms of HDR and really picking out bright highlights and maintaining fantastic contrast and detail in the darker areas, they definitely seem to be great when comparing to the likes of LG's OLED Panels which tend to limit the max brightness a little bit too low at times to bring out the best of the picture.

Got one of these 6 months ago for $2200. Images look great however disabling motion processing like I normally would just isn't possible the ghosting evening in movies is terrible. However, I was suprised to find that enabling their motion smoothing and anit jitter made the image pretty close to great and did not induce the soap opera effect. So for me it is pretty great and the HDR is amazing as far as I am concerned.

I have a 65" U8G, and though it is not OLED, for the budget I had, it is the best TV I have ever owned. I like Hisense now despite their flaws.

I remember the original video for this! I saw it a couple of years ago, when I fell down a rabbit hole researching flat screen TVs. When you look up reviews of just about anything consumer electronics related, Linus Tech Tips is always in the search.
At this exact moment, you can get a U9DG for $2500 and free shipping. But even if I had the money - holy cow, no way would I trust the store's regular delivery guys with ninety pounds of delicate electronics.
