Today's "country" singers just make screaming sounds and the lyrics are indecipherable. You can't tell one from the other. You know it's Johnny when he starts singing the first note. He doesn't need to be identified by a song.
To those people commenting why doesn't he get the recognition he deserves and why isn't he in the hall of fame, Well just like Freddy Fender, I think we know the answer to that.
Its hard to say why he didn't make it into the country music hall of fame, he damn well deserved it, such a talent, not sure race had anything to do with it, Charley Pride made it in, if it was based on race, one would belive it would be harder for a Black gentleman to get in over others, Charley Pride was a damn good entertainer as well. With that said, im a fan of great music, music isnt a race its a talent not everyone has.
I still can't stop loving his voice!! Truly unique and very country!! Magnetic, magnificent!! I'd love to meet him!! Ive never ever had a chance to go to a concert in my life.. Johnny Rodriguez is extraordinary!!

Love the, "till a drifter stole him from me, like I stole her from you," so many good lines in that song. And Johnny does the song justice. Love them both.

This is a GREAT song by a GREAT writer. I'd love to meet the writer and singer. If there weren't sensational writers, there wouldn't be hits like this. There are a lot of great acts that aren't in the Country Hall of Fame or Rock & Roll Hall that aren't minorities, Eddie Rabbitt for example, that deserve to be. I don't think ethnicity is the issue. I think it's popularity among the people that do the voting. How can Grand Funk Railroad not be in the Rock & Roll Hall? They're white, but definitely overlooked.
