But I would need to fly it to confirm". He asked me in the first pace cause whenever we would squad up together, he would always see me wipe the floors in my F4E (I have way too much time in that thing) and struggled to do the same or even survive in other matches/situations. Long story short he lent me his account out of nowhere and I flew his FGR.2 on stream for him. My suspicions were confirmed immediately. This thing is an absolute monster when played in the high-alt BVR support fighter mode. If you're not being focused by someone, you can wipe an entire team in a mater of minutes. I opt not to use the gunpod since I have noticed a stupid amount of performance gain from it and have left enemies in the dust more times than I can count. I would gladly trade in my F4E for it as War Thunder is now.

I don’t even bother with the gunpod anymore considering my terrible aim to begin with and the sky flash being incredible in most engagements I get into
Flying the FG1 Phantom is so fun and often can intercept anyone trying to fly high, I always take the gunpod just in case I get close to someone near the end of the round and I've also gotten more gun kills with it than missile kills so its a must have for me
I use the FG1 but it’s functionally the same plane and I’ve taken to running speedyboi with no gunpod. I climb off to the side to about 5-6k and then turn in, liberally apply skyflash to people that extend out of the furball, try to lob off some sidewinders and then rearm. I’ve had reasonable success so far, generally getting 2-3 kills with the sky flashes before exposing myself to any real danger. Though I have found myself many times wishing I had a cannon during a merge and the sidewinders decide they don’t want to lock.
I love your videos, and think you did a good job delivering a fairly comprehensive review of the FGR.2 in this video, but starting at 7:08 and ending at 8:22, you used the same clip back to back. I have no issues with reusing footage - not every bit of recorded gameplay is good enough for youtube - but think that this could have been made less by not playing the same clip immediately after it's been shown. Still, I look forward to future videos and reviews.
Fun fact: to get f4 phantom fgr2 since last uodate, you cannot get it by juat researching first 2 research lines, as you will lack 1 vehicle now. Just sayn gaijin

Used to not be all that interested in the British plane tree but with dogfight missiles paired with Doppler radar, and having some nice planes like the FGR2, Harriers, Jaguar GR1 A, and Buccaneer makes it actually a very viable line, competitive against even the American and Russian lines.
Make no mistake, it's quite terrible now. Radar often doesn't lock for no reason, same with missiles when it does. Skyflash rarely track, all that whilst dodging phoenix, r27 and aim9l spam from platforms considerably faster and more agile than you

Turn rate is acceptable at 20 min fuel mid game, and dealing with F-14s and Mig-29s means hugging the ground till end of time and closing the distance on them from unexpected angles w Skyflash (rat that sht to the max). Not "meta" by any means, but hardly a suffer boat imo.
I feel very confident in the fgr playing aggressive I get almost 3-5 kills every game just aslong as my teammates have at least 1 brain cell I will perform very well.
Back then this maybe worked but nowadays it’s just against F-14 and F-16 and the phantom is basically not able to keep up with them in air to air combat…
With the aim 7e does it take 1.5 seconds after firing too start tracking, or is that added onto the time it takes to warm the missile up prior to being able to fire it?? Yes and no. The FG has more initial thrust and takes off faster and speeds up faster. The FGR has better optimal thrust, so it's more consistent in performance but it doesn't recover speed as fast as the FG The difference is minimal though, they play the same
I kinda disagree on the speed Acceleration is definitely great, but it’s one of the slowest phantoms due to the drag caused by the modified air intakes and exhaust ducts
I agree on everything except the gun pods. In my opinion taking the gun pods comes down to engagement range and not preference. If its an operation I wont take it and I'll play linebacker. If its a ground attack I will take it and play 2nd line. Once got 4 kills against mig 21 and and 23 using the gun pod in the fur ball.

I grinding the Israeli air tree because I am a tanker and I want CAS planes already on crew slot and ready to go when the tanks arrive. I just got the Israeli Phantom on bone stock. Any advice for a potato pilot about how to grind mods and weapons on that one and how to use it in general?
The reason chaffs are worthless is because the missile will still always track if launched prior to locking onto chaff, been forever like that and gaijin simply refused to fix this Just stay locked on to chaff if that happens. Thats the explanation for the kill where ya said youll still take it lol
*God save the Queen* Yeah the US didn't catch up to the Skyflash capabilities until the AIM-7M in the 1980's. The -7F came close, but wasn't quite there. Also the RR Spey turbofans required a lot of airframe modifications to fit (that pesky "gotta keep british industry alive"), so the UK Phantoms have notable differences in certain flight characteristics according to pilots that flew them (US and UK)
Yeah iirc it was a way to keep UK aerospace firms happy by giving it Rolls-Royce engines, improving thrust, but also necessitating the rear fuselage to be rebuilt in the UK. Breathed a bit of life into the industry which just lost contracts for TSR.2 and P.1154 I guess.
Its an old habit from a different flight sim, but the idea is to prevent BVR locks (mixed flares/chaff in WT) from people I might not see, so I get sneak killed by surprise less often.
Skyflash get nerf now, it just aim7a2 with new name, and the FGR2's engine....it can't even out run J-7E and F5 now, and repair cost is pretty high, British Phantom become the worst top tier jet now, American phantom、migs even mirage is way more better then FG1/FGR2
Can you give some tips on how to get accustomed to the radar guided missiles? I dont know if its my keyboard bindings or me but, i dont get to use them that much in battles.

It all depends on the aim, I personally do much better with the gunpod than without, just can't live without the versatility it offers

The FGR.2 works well as a support fighter, and when it's not focused down it can be very effective.

It doesn’t, there’s nothing different between the two Phantoms apart from the longer nosewheel and the tail hook on the FG.1 for Carrier landing

Your engines output based on its condition, I believe optimal thrust is achieved by altitude and fuel load

5:35 If you've locked onto a target and they then pop chaff you will still maintain radar lock despite what the UI says because gaijin spaghetti code.
