In all fairness I can say you can energy trap F4E’s and most MiGs bar the BiS at low altitude, in a no missile fight. Funnily enough them fixing the FGRs gun has completely ****** my aim lol. But yeah an FGR carrying comparable loads to its piers will out accelerate and run most things. F-104s and MiG-21BIS probably being biggest issue

ehhhhh its kinda misleading. The engine burns for twice as long, but also puts out half as much thrust as the Air Force sidewinders, resulting in the same speed increase from launch.. Also, despite having less explosive mass, the warhead should actually do more damage than other contemporary sidewinders because it uses a special continuous rod warhead that requires less explosive for a better result, yet in-game it just does less damage. Also also, they still overlead a bit horrendously at times, as a result of the missile flying much faster than it thinks it is. You are wrong, I will go make a video about the FGR in Microsoft Flight Simulator and get reversed by an AI to prove that this plane is good and you just don't know how to use it. I get like 12 kills a match so I don't know why you think it sucks.
When they added this initially there was no SMT or MF or F4E, and it was the undisputed king of the skies. Then they added the SMT and the R60. If my memory serves, there were no flares to counter the R60, so the Phantoms got dominated. They then added the F4E and flares along with it. The FGR was given flares in that update and the SMT was not, so the tables turned and it was this and the F4E that dominated, although the SMT was miles faster than the F4E, so this imo this was the better Phantom. When 30g missiles were added, flares increased in utility and the flareless SMT suffered HARD because they're incredibly hard to dodge by maneuverer alone. THEN they added sparrows and radar gained functionality in a way that it never had before. The FGR was immediately given 4 sparrows, and because of the 3000kgf of engine force over the F4E it could carry the extra 800kg of weight without being AS burdened performance wise as the F4E was, imo. It's obviously slower, but still a fast aircraft fully laden. It's now been given chaff and a new type of missile, while the soviet side has been diluted with new aircraft inferior to the Mig21bis, i.e the MiG23 in most circumstances, and the Su17, thus bringing the supremacy of the russian teams into question. The only issue I've ever had with it is that its engines inexplicably overheat to the point of failure on the Sicily and Spain maps (you mentioned that in this video), and it fights both with and against the Americans which means the experience can be inconsistent, like say, when the PMF was added, the FGR was put on teams with that rather than the dominant American led teams. Sorry for the essay but this plane is my baby and I think it's consistently been a solid top tier choice for a couple of years now. The AIM-9Gs are a helluva lot more useable now, so in part the plane has become better than when this was reviewed. Previously, they were locked to a 4G launch limit, but that limit has since been removed, thus making the missiles a lot more competitive than their in-video state.
I play the FGR as its my only top tier, and what you say in the video is really damn accurate actually, airframe has nothing going for it except for its very good acceleration and climb rate, turning is well.... not really turning at all, supporting only long wide turns. its a different playstyle that lets the plane thrive when paired with a team that doesnt instantly die, as the doppler radar in my experience is undeniably excellent at lower altitudes, and the 9Gs are decent enough to get by, with their great range. problem is this plane as you said does jack all without a team, making 1vX fights very rarely go your way, so overall its a different playstyle, and needs your team heavily to be useful, making it probably about C tier, it shines occasionally but as you said its not really competitive and looses to its counterparts easily, and these people calling you bad can go fuck off cause your among the most skilled warthunder players on youtube right now and everything you said is spot on.

That's not how Doppler radar works, the target does not need to be coming towards you. The target needs to have a velocity either towards or away from you relative to the ground so there is a frequency shift in the reflected rays from the target relative to the background.
Ngl I love the FG.1 and FGR.2, FG.1is my second best plane on stat card lmao. I should probably try out one of the F-4Es or Fs, seem like good dogfighters. I see what people mean about this plane relying on the equipment tho, and it’s definitely improved with the new missiles and radar. Honestly the FGR2 is super OP Tbh and even though I dont have the plane myself tbh I can tell just from seeing this video tbh that you are inept at flying this thing just l2p dude . If it wasnt for the horrrrendous pilots like you flying this super beautiful capable machine, then the other nations would need tie fighters just to balance out the win rates. Tbh
Countinueing the topic of radar stuff, here are my tips and tricks. If you have chaff installed on your plane, i bet you have RWR. If you are getting locked, you can see the direction the radiation is coming from. If you can change your course if you are sure that the enemy is far, also pop a couple of chaff with some period, but make sure that you are not heading nither towards nor straight away from the radiation source. The best choice is keeping some angle, in this case the enemy will be locking the chaff, and you will get away from his radar beam rather quickly, if there was a fox1 missile heading towards you, it will loose you completely. If you are going head on against fox1 capable aircraft, launch yiur missile from 9 to 7 km and then offset to the side(within the gimble limit of the radar) and pop chaff. The same thing would happen, you will get out from this narrow line and missile will loose the track. If the enemy had been just moving straight and waiting for the kill, he will get smashed by your missile. Or if you don't have one, you will survive, this is quite nice as well. Another tactic against radar capable aircraft is about spotting the target. You can turn nearly 80 or 90 degrees and start poping chaff with intervals of 2 to 3 seconds. The enemy radar sight would be looking like a complete mess after he stars seeing 15 more spots in the sky. Picking the target in this case is a quite hard task for your opponent. This is how "pre chaffing" works. This are the main ways how i use my chaff in different situations.
I think the Doppler radar works best when trying to lock with ACM radar. For those wondering you have to turn off your radar then press the lock button to turn on ACM.
@@5000mahmud I wanted to use it to quickly lock close approaching targets in head on attacks. Even using a narrow scope it can be hard to lock the correct enemy when tons of planes are in front. Luckily I figured out how to use acm. They changed how it's enabled but after a few days of frustration, I stumbled upon it in combat.
Loved the video, and agreed with most part. Just commenting to say that you can take much more use of the DPR with the Within/Beyond visual range key. At low altitudes I saw you struggling to get a lock, and with that key the radar works amazingly, to the point where I got kills with AIM-7E's at 1km altitude (and to slave those 9G's is pretty dope). Anyway, thanks for the content m8.
Flares are more reliable from the rear if you turn off your afterburners by the way. They kick up a hell of a lot of heat that needs to be overcome by the flares.
6:25 may in the future it'll get Aim 9 Ls. It had em in real life, yeh ik it was the F104 ASA but it NEVER carried 9Bs (the 104s) idk why gaijin is holding that thing in a corner

You really should fly the F4C... since 11.0 was added you get way more downtiers, more downtiers than uptiers now I believe. And It is finally competitive from what ive played of it now. Really should try it, even for only a couple games
4:47 That's not lofting. Lofting is when a missile starts its flight with a climb up into thinner air so that it has less drag so it will slow down less and more stored potential energy to use later. It sounds to me like some sort of interception lead behavior.

You don't use the acm mode ?? Usefull to lock and fire sparrow close to the ennemy or/and the ground. (The acm is more reliable to me that what you describe and you can turn your radar on and off using the lock radar key in this mode, basically after the first bvr engagement i only am in this mode)
wasn't Mirage iiiE supposed to get pulse Doppler radar too? it also can get a ground radar whenever gaijin decides to add them to the planes capable of carrying them (like A-7D, etc.)
I'm having good success taking out Su 7/17's with Sparrows using Doppler trying to bomb bases. F4 C is a little less painful to fly as it doesn't see as many top tiers nowadays.

I know this plane doesn't have the best performance but this is much better then the f-104s. Use the small rader scope with automatic lock and you get much more kills with the aim-7s then Any other Phantom. So I think you are a bit negative on this.
It's insane to me how the F-5's are able to tank missiles. They're basically the smallest top tier jet but somehow don't get swatted out of the sky by missiles designed to take down quad-engined strategic bombers. I hit one with 3 whole R-60s and it still required him to hit the ground to actually give me the kill. Absolutely bonkers. What do you mean Gaijin would artificially buff an aircraft that should be mediocre at best just because it's premium and/or FOTM ?
Haven't even watched yet an can tell by the comments you dont like it :( i'm a terrible pilot but i get a couple kills a game (if my team doesn't dissolve.) just don't take the gunpod, obviously its a big disadvantage in some respects but the amount of speed + maneuverability you get from it is not insignificant, i outrun f4e's and mig21's in my fg-1, if you use your afterburner on a slight downward angle you get to rip speed from mach in a couple of seconds. And the aim-9Gs make up for no guns. I am a big lover of B'n'Zing though since my hornet/beaufighter days so i can see why someone who likes to get into dogfights and energy trap people might not like it since if you go below mach in the middle of the map you just die.
So you are telling me there is a new bug that makes fox1 missiles track once fired even after you chaff? I hope they fix this bug soon. Now knowing this I will never go to altitude in my mig.

Hey DEFYN, You need to overwork your keybindings to get the doppler working correctly. Use the beyond visual range mode to lock to the correct targets or use the switching between radar targets to lock on the correct one in the search mode. Greedings!

I am gonna have to disagree with your statement that you cant dodge a missile at 1km it's just not true, that close use of any heat seeker is useless because they need about 1-2 seconds after launch before tracking and if you know how to defend without flares it's easy.

The range on the 9Gs is insane since their boosters last for so long, at high alt you can get 4-5km kills relatively easily

Well I for one really enjoy my fg1. Just zooming through the furball without a cannon unleashing merry hell with 8 missiles on board.

Countinueing the topic of radar stuff, here are my tips and tricks. If you have chaff installed on your plane, i bet you have RWR. If you are getting locked, you can see the direction the radiation is coming from. If you can change your course if you are sure that the enemy is far, also pop a couple of chaff with some period, but make sure that you are not heading nither towards nor straight away from the radiation source. The best choice is keeping some angle, in this case the enemy will be locking the chaff, and you will get away from his radar beam rather quickly, if there was a fox1 missile heading towards you, it will loose you completely. If you are going head on against fox1 capable aircraft, launch yiur missile from 9 to 7 km and then offset to the side(within the gimble limit of the radar) and pop chaff. The same thing would happen, you will get out from this narrow line and missile will loose the track. If the enemy had been just moving straight and waiting for the kill, he will get smashed by your missile. Or if you don't have one, you will survive, this is quite nice as well. Another tactic against radar capable aircraft is about spotting the target. You can turn nearly 80 or 90 degrees and start poping chaff with intervals of 2 to 3 seconds. The enemy radar sight would be looking like a complete mess after he stars seeing 15 more spots in the sky. Picking the target in this case is a quite hard task for your opponent. This is how "pre chaffing" works. This are the main ways how i use my chaff in different situations.

I think the Doppler radar works best when trying to lock with ACM radar. For those wondering you have to turn off your radar then press the lock button to turn on ACM.
Acm is really limited, better of changing search POV to the narrowest setting. You can easily get locks from 30+kms
@@5000mahmud I wanted to use it to quickly lock close approaching targets in head on attacks. Even using a narrow scope it can be hard to lock the correct enemy when tons of planes are in front. Luckily I figured out how to use acm. They changed how it's enabled but after a few days of frustration, I stumbled upon it in combat.
Loved the video, and agreed with most part. Just commenting to say that you can take much more use of the DPR with the Within/Beyond visual range key. At low altitudes I saw you struggling to get a lock, and with that key the radar works amazingly, to the point where I got kills with AIM-7E's at 1km altitude (and to slave those 9G's is pretty dope). Anyway, thanks for the content m8.
Flares are more reliable from the rear if you turn off your afterburners by the way. They kick up a hell of a lot of heat that needs to be overcome by the flares.

You really should fly the F4C... since 11.0 was added you get way more downtiers, more downtiers than uptiers now I believe. And It is finally competitive from what ive played of it now. Really should try it, even for only a couple games
Just got the f4c and you get way more uptiers then down tiers. It’s something to a ratio of like 1 down tier for every 4 uptiers

You don't use the acm mode ?? Usefull to lock and fire sparrow close to the ennemy or/and the ground. (The acm is more reliable to me that what you describe and you can turn your radar on and off using the lock radar key in this mode, basically after the first bvr engagement i only am in this mode)

I'm having good success taking out Su 7/17's with Sparrows using Doppler trying to bomb bases.
F4 C is a little less painful to fly as it doesn't see as many top tiers nowadays.

I know this plane doesn't have the best performance but this is much better then the f-104s. Use the small rader scope with automatic lock and you get much more kills with the aim-7s then Any other Phantom. So I think you are a bit negative on this.

Use combat/dogfight mode with PD scanning, I can lock people 20km away with no problem. No kidding, this should be a bug but it helps a lot.
An AWG-11 would have zero problems locking an enemy at 20 km
It's insane to me how the F-5's are able to tank missiles. They're basically the smallest top tier jet but somehow don't get swatted out of the sky by missiles designed to take down quad-engined strategic bombers.
I hit one with 3 whole R-60s and it still required him to hit the ground to actually give me the kill. Absolutely bonkers.

Haven't even watched yet an can tell by the comments you dont like it :( i'm a terrible pilot but i get a couple kills a game (if my team doesn't dissolve.) just don't take the gunpod, obviously its a big disadvantage in some respects but the amount of speed + maneuverability you get from it is not insignificant, i outrun f4e's and mig21's in my fg-1, if you use your afterburner on a slight downward angle you get to rip speed from mach in a couple of seconds. And the aim-9Gs make up for no guns. I am a big lover of B'n'Zing though since my hornet/beaufighter days so i can see why someone who likes to get into dogfights and energy trap people might not like it since if you go below mach in the middle of the map you just die.

You need to overwork your keybindings to get the doppler working correctly. Use the beyond visual range mode to lock to the correct targets or use the switching between radar targets to lock on the correct one in the search mode.

I am gonna have to disagree with your statement that you cant dodge a missile at 1km it's just not true, that close use of any heat seeker is useless because they need about 1-2 seconds after launch before tracking and if you know how to defend without flares it's easy.
