From June, motorists will be able to enter the south-bound corridor of Mumbai Coastal Road directly from Bandra-Worli Sea Link as BMC successfully launched the 2,000-metric ton bowstring arch bridge connecting the two sea links in the wee hours of Friday.
Almost 24 hours after the bowstring arch bridge, spanning 136m, arrived at the coastal road's Worli site in the wee hours of Thursday, work on erecting it began at 2.20am on Friday and was completed in a span of around an hour - at 3.25am.
Site engineers said the 40-second precision in the placement of the bridge was the most critical step. An elaborate engineering plan was prepared to manage minute-by-minute actions in a synchronised manner using technology and natural recession of tides, thereby ensuring that machine and nature acted in unison. BMC commissioner Bhushan Gagrani was present with the civic engineers and contractors at the site overseeing the first-of-its-kind infrastructure erection works being carried out in the open sea.

Love how entire expensive costal road project is toll free till south Mumbai (sobo) but you need to pay toll to catch this bridge onto Bandra (suburb)

Because, sea link is built, owned, and operated by MSRDC. Because of these Khangress/CON-gress and Sharad Pawar chronies etc... the cost of the bridge was more than 5 times the estimated cost and 5 years behind schedule! So now MSRDC has to recover that money!

And due to construction they will face problems nd it will effect there livelihood. Environmental clearance was already there even when there was not rule of bjp gov. So I don't know from where you got this news. Bmc workers tried to win their heart by giving promises and because of which they agreed for 136 span of bridge. He would have been ashamed of us beyond words through the Dawood and Zakir Naik days. Dawood was there for decades and Zakir Naik got 10 years. Slow toh hain...agreed! But Mumbai and for that matter Maharashtra in general has a lot of extra problems to make projects. It is never a lack of money but:
1. Landscape is not flat like North India (Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, UP etc.). It is moutainous with Sahyadris(Western Ghats) and Deccan plateau
2. The rock is harder in Maharashtra and Mumabi is an island of made of 7 islands. Way more difficult to dig and drill.
3. Most of the money is spent on Land acquisition.
4. MVA/Uddhav Sena/Sharad Pawar pushed projects 4 years back because of forcing work to stop or slow down drastically. It takes time to restart stopped projects.
5. COVID

Nobody is saying that you m0r0n! Some roads have toll but the Coastal road is 100% funded by the BMC from excess income. They could build 4 more of these from the cash reserves they have got over the last 10 years due to a policy change in fungible FSI. The funds came from the premium charged for fungible FSI.
However, roads and bridges that are funded via other means have tolls! Especially roads that connect several cities. This is an internal road of Mumbai owned by BMC. Even the Bandra-Worli sea link is owned by MSRDC which is why it has a toll!
