I have used a drop spreader for the past 11 years. I love it! I tend to use less fert, and know exactly how much and where the fert falls. The broadcast spreaders are far faster, but I feel like I can't control it nearly as easy as with the drop spreader.
I prefer this stuff over milorganite, a bit more expensive in my area but my lawn has never looked so thick and green. Purely organic and urban farm liquid lawn is an unbelievable combination.
Did you alternate with Milo or blend? I’ve been using Milorganite for years with heavy applications but I bought a couple bags of this last winter, although I’m hoarding it for a couple needy areas in my backyard.
You might add slopes into your consideration, if you have a significant rainfall before the fertilizer is fully absorbed into the soil, it will wash down hill. So, I put it on heavier at the top and less at the bottom and spread it across the slope rather than up and down. I live just outside of farm country and all of the little communities have to dispose of their sludge from their sewerage plants, in this area most of it is spread over farms that aren't growing food products intended for human consumption, since most are growing feed corn, hay, or soybeans that doesn't apply to them. This is a win/win since the sewer authority doesn't have to dry their sludge (so they could burn it) and the farmer gets free fertilizer and they even apply it for him. It does smell though. Back in the day when George Washington was President (NYC was the Capital) the city employed an army of men to clean up after the thousands of horses in the city, there was a fleet of small ships (sail of course) that carried the manuer to farm communities along the shore. farmers would apply about ten wagonloads of maneur per acre each year. Big cities like NY and Philadelphia used to dump their sludge at sea, about 100 miles offshore, this is now against US law and international law.
Last year I tried Milorganite, left four (4) bags in my vehicle in the blazing heat for several days and my ride smelled awful for weeks. This year, I am going with a synthetic fertilizer based upon info from my soil test and correcting the PH. Also introducing some NEXT products and other forms of trace minerals and amino acid.. So far, the grass looks better than any yard I have ever had and dominates most of the town (lol).
I had really good results with this in the past. Cost per app is comparable with Milo (a little more expensive). The only downside is having to order it.
I'm a big fan of Milorganite. I changed to this product at the beginning of the season since Milo went up $2.00 a bag at HD. I'm very happy so far.....great product.
I almost bought that brand until I checked out scotts lawn food (because it was on sale) It's a couple of bucks cheaper than lawn food but it' has 32-0-4. FYI it won't burn your lawn. It also contains IRON and sulfur
I'm experimenting with the Menards Ideal Eq Product. So far I'm getting great results. Plus look out for the 11% rebate and it saves even more....around $8.50 a bag.
Please do not get me wrong. You , Allan and Pete have inspired me to love my lawn and want a nice looking healthy grass . I did not mean to sound offensive in anyway.
This product is a great alternative to Ringer Lawn Restore. Same ingredients and cheaper. I just put down a heavy application this past weekend. We’re coming out of a heat spell and the lawn was getting stressed. Luckily we have a week of rain and cooler temps.
Ryan, thanks for the recommendation of the Kujo Yardwear….I received mine last week and love them! So much more comfortable than the work boots I've always worn. Great videos, and good luck the remainder of the spring season, your yard is looking fantastic!
I'm going to use this instead of Milo for my next round. My most recent soil test indicated high P and low K. Originally was going to to buy some Ringer but its expensive and hard to find in my area. Home Depot carries the Purely Organic stuff and the price is good too.
Hi Ryan,I don’t think you mentioned the cost of the bag. Second I would bet that the soybeans are GMO. Don’t know if that is a concern for you. Thirdly, what about Carbon X and next products, are you not using them? And if not why not?
Thanks for this information. I've used the Scott's non organic turf builder for years for but am changing to all organic fertilizers in the gardens and the lawn 👍 what do know about the Scott's all natural ?
Ryan see if you can get your hands on the new Scotts Foundation. It’s not sold in my home state so I had a family member pick me up two bags. It’s sold at Ace Hardware. $25 a bag and one bag covers 5,000 sqft. It contains volcanic ash, coconut husk biochar and attapulgite clay.
Whoa, it looks like the price on the Purely Organic has sky rocketed! Running about $23/bag at Home Depot and Amazon. Any other suggestions for an organic fert at more affordable price?
I really enjoy your videos and I am impressed with your green yard! Do you have any suggestions for fertilizer and weed control to cover my 75,000 sq ft yard that I reasonably priced? I have a tow-behind broadcast spreader that I attach to my lawn tractor. Please advise.
Looove the background noises...redwing blackbirds!!! Work for a Milo distributor & just switched to a 5-5-0 biosolid 50lb for $12 retail. They cut us off for not selling enough...3 trailer loads/year
If you get a chance, buy the ELITE Scotts spreader, you won't regret it, I had the smaller one that I think you're using here and it went south after a year.
Not sure if I missed it but how did the application go? I’ve been looking for something organic because of my dog. If you know of a good organic weed killer please let me know. Also, ever had chinch bugs? Thank you much.
I have the Lesco commercial spreader. Do these products have the Lesco settings on the bags as well? I’ve had trouble finding Lesco commercial settings on products because it’s mostly made for Scott’s and other homeowner type spreaders. I guess manufacturers think that people with commercial equipment should already know their own settings. Help me out here. What setting do people use for milorganite? Or should I calibrate the spreader myself?
Your yard looks great. Would you recommend this product for a yard that need a a lot of work/heavily occupied for weeds? Wanting something organic/non toxic but also somewhat effective. Thanks for the video!
If you're looking to get rid of the weeds just remember that fertilizing the grass can help it get more healthy but it's also going to be fertilizing the weeds so if they're really heavy, one or two sprays of the weeds might be what you need to let the grass take over again.
There are online fert calculators to do the math for you. I’ll also be ordering the simple lawn solutions products since that’s a more affordable option to the rgs stuff
I have a stupid question. Does lawn food such as milorganite or this new product your using helps with grass growths on spotty areas? I have few spotty areas that I'm trying to cover. Thanks and always great video!
1- What is your schedule for fertilizing the lawn with these two products, Milorganite and Purely Organic? I live in Atlanta, GA. Might be a little different down here. Do you use any synthetics throughout the year ... on your front lawn, perhaps? 2- Also, is it ok to treat lawn for weeds at the same time that you use a fertilizer, something like Image for Nutsedge, or something similar, to treat Nutsedge, crabgrass, and other broadleaf weeds? I put down Bermuda seed in very specific tracts where lawn was dug up. Grass germinated about a week ago. I will be careful not to spray new grass with weed killer.
Woah!! Perfect timing!! How did I predict the next video?? I just bought this due to my soil test profile and because ringer is way too expensive for me. Thanks for the awesome resources!
Nothing wrong with using the scotts spreader if it's getting the job done but do you ever use the Brinly spreader and if so what are your thoughts on it?
It sounds like it's very similar to ringer lawn restore. Both are plant based with soy bean meal added. They share similar color and sounds like they smell very similar. The only difference is you might get a bit more K from ringer. I may have to try that stuff as a replacement for ringer (milorganite is illegal here because of the phosphate).
i've used Milorganite only and neglected the K on the grass for a long period. How do I get K on the grass cheaply I went to a store and it was expensive and need a granular product. I have a scotts classic drop spreader that I calibrated and it still overapplied the Milo. But no worries with the Milo. Milo is still available in the smaller hardware stores here but 14.98 a bag. Bought 2 checkmate striping kits (honda hrx and husqvarna tractor) and will be striping soon. Love to say I am dominating but others think I'm just crazy with the grass. I just think there crazy because they can't dominate!
Ryan that product is basically just soybean meal which you can buy at any feed store -- $20 for a 50lbs bag. Generic soybean meal can be put out with a broadcast spreader, btw. Also soybean meal doesn't smell fantastic at all when it starts to break down; it smells like rotting garbage.
Question: If I fertilized with Scotts Turf Builder Lawn Food (32-0-4) on May 24 and I want to try this Purely Organic Lawn Food, how long should I wait before applying?
Ryan i have a question i hope you read this and help me my lawn when spring started was beautiful i aerated it i used milorganite at one point i used ironite it been raining and today may 12 2021 i have areas getting yellow any reason why is that happening please help me
So how do you weed and feed organicly? Thinking of going that route for the back yard now that we have a little one running all over back there. Thanks again for your videos
Once your lawn gets thick enough you really shouldn't need to spray or have many weeds. I have very very few and I don't really do anything with them other than pull a few by hand.
I have the same spreader, I want a better one. When broadcasting milo a bunch just hits the right wheel and I have left with dark lines in my lawn where I walked.
Great video Ryan. I've been debating between this product and Jobes organic lawn food. They seem very similar except the Jobes only comes in 15 lbs bag but supposedly covers 5000 sqf as well. Jobes says it comes with Biozome. Do you know much about that?
The jobes is just a lower rate of nitrogren applied if you make it cover 5k sq ft with only 15 pounds of product. It would be a rate of .3 pounds of nitrogen with those numbers. The biozome is beneficial bacteria added in to the product.
Lawn is looking good Ryan! I bought that same lawn food fertilizer and will be putting an app down this week. Are you going to be doing any lawn leveling this year?
Hey Ryan. I have watched your version of growing grass and feed them. My question is that I live in Dallas TX and I have worked on my girlfriend lawn this year. It’s looking better every day but I was wondering if I should any product since it will get hot in a month and I don’t want to burn the turf. Any suggestion to add more food and not damaging it? Thanks man. Appreciate any input
Nice video! Question, I threw down quite a bit of grass seed to cover the bare spots in my yard. But there is good grass growing between the bare spots... I will be using miloganite next week and it’s going to be difficult not to get the milorganite on to the new seeded areas. Would you know if it’s safe to use milorganite on new seeded areas? Thanks.
Minnesota lawn novice here. Hey Ryan, I just got my soil test back from the U of M indicating I need to apply an NPK of 20-5-20 for the year as my potash level was quite low. Any suggestions about product or tactic to accomplishing those levels?
I'd see if you can find a site one or a turf supply place that's similar and see what fertilizer options they have...don't freak out at the low potassium but just start adding in ferts that always include that in it and you'll be fine. Most of the "winterizer" types at the store have higher potassium so you can look for those as well.
Hey man. I put down milorgranite on my lawn 2 weeks back. I saw no results. I tested my soil with a kit from Home Depot It showed low ph so I put down fast acting limestone. Some of my grass is green and some turned yellow. You have any idea what happened?
I have used a drop spreader for the past 11 years. I love it! I tend to use less fert, and know exactly how much and where the fert falls. The broadcast spreaders are far faster, but I feel like I can't control it nearly as easy as with the drop spreader.
I prefer this stuff over milorganite, a bit more expensive in my area but my lawn has never looked so thick and green. Purely organic and urban farm liquid lawn is an unbelievable combination.
I just started using Purely Organic Lawn Food this season & I like it. BTW, the setting for that Scotts Mini is 7.5, not 11.
I actually started using this exact product this year. Seemed very similar to Ringer to me, hope it works just as well!
I started using is last year. Quality product I would recommend. The pricing of Ringer is ridiculous. This is a very good alternative for the money.
i used that exact organic fertilizer since last year and i didnt have any problem. Its organic so im happy with that.
Looks like we have the same spreader, setting is labeled at 7.5 not 11.5
Started using the product last year with milorganite and had great results.
Yeah, I think he made a mistake, it's 7.5 for that spreader, but it won't hurt anything, other than the extra expense.
Did you alternate with Milo or blend? I’ve been using Milorganite for years with heavy applications but I bought a couple bags of this last winter, although I’m hoarding it for a couple needy areas in my backyard.
I like that there are more Milorganite clones/alternatives with the shortages of Milo in some areas.
Here in PA milo hasn’t been in stock since April so I had to go with a different brand. Used this same product and was impressed.
You might add slopes into your consideration, if you have a significant rainfall before the fertilizer is fully absorbed into the soil, it will wash down hill. So, I put it on heavier at the top and less at the bottom and spread it across the slope rather than up and down.

I'm very happy so far.....great product.
Home Depot will beat Lowe’s price which is $2.00 less than Home Depot. They then make it 10% cheaper than Lowe’s
I almost bought that brand until I checked out scotts lawn food (because it was on sale) It's a couple of bucks cheaper than lawn food but it' has 32-0-4. FYI it won't burn your lawn. It also contains IRON and sulfur
Yeah that's just not organic...it's a synthetic product
Also high nitrogen that can burn lawn , especially in hot weather .
This is my go to product this season. I don’t need any more P or K. Use some GREENE Effect to get 6% iron.
Get yourself a better spreader.
I started PO this year. Works well here in central Texas.
I'm experimenting with the Menards Ideal Eq Product. So far I'm getting great results. Plus look out for the 11% rebate and it saves even more....around $8.50 a bag.

phosphorous is an important and essential macronutrient for plants grass and trees
Thanks Ryan, great video. What’s your take on Sea Kelp for lawns?
First Lower Alabamian. Yeah!
I put that stuff down last week!
I used this stuff this year. Loved it so far
Ryan see if you can get your hands on the new Scotts Foundation. It’s not sold in my home state so I had a family member pick me up two bags. It’s sold at Ace Hardware. $25 a bag and one bag covers 5,000 sqft. It contains volcanic ash, coconut husk biochar and attapulgite clay.
streetstylz where are you from?
It’s nice you dont jump on the Carbon X and N-Ext train. Keeping it different and practical and showing the same if not better results!
SBow311 beer that he won’t do it this year however.
I'm alternating 1/2 apps like you suggested Ryan. It's looking really good so far. I just need this Poa Annua to die off!
Mine should arrive from Amazon tomorrow. Gonna use it for the first time too. Nice timing of vid..👍
Got a soil test and I'm high in phosphorus, low in iron and zinc. Going to try this stuff and supplement with liquid iron.

I really enjoy your videos and I am impressed with your green yard! Do you have any suggestions for fertilizer and weed control to cover my 75,000 sq ft yard that I reasonably priced? I have a tow-behind broadcast spreader that I attach to my lawn tractor. Please advise.
Ryan great video.... but I think the bag indicates a setting of 7.5 for the Scotts Turf Builder Edgeguard spreader.
Why is everyone hating on Milo? This shit works!
Heavy metals in the shit

Watching your videos make me green with jealous envy
Saw this stuff at my local HD today 👍🏻

Have you tried (Ecoscraps fert) from Home Depot.
If not could you do testing
Woah!! Perfect timing!! How did I predict the next video?? I just bought this due to my soil test profile and because ringer is way too expensive for me. Thanks for the awesome resources!
How do you fix dog urine spots? Your yard looks great for having pets.
was thinking of using this because it seems like the same thing as innova but much cheaper and no phos.
The bag called for a 7.5 setting for the Scott's Edge Guard.
Nothing wrong with using the scotts spreader if it's getting the job done but do you ever use the Brinly spreader and if so what are your thoughts on it?
Can I use this product if I have a well and a stream in my yard
Ryan, how long should I wait to take soil samples after applying gypsum and Milorganite on my lawn? Should I wait until spring now?
How would you compare the costs of the two products?Milorganite vs the organic ?
It sounds like it's very similar to ringer lawn restore. Both are plant based with soy bean meal added. They share similar color and sounds like they smell very similar. The only difference is you might get a bit more K from ringer.

Check at a local turf supply place where pros get stuff
Plato Dimitriadis you should be rotating you milo with another Fert. 1 month milo, next month a 10-10-10 or 10-0-10 if you don’t need phosphorus.
To boost K, I'm using Lesco Pro Turf, 24-0-11, 3% iron. Waiting to put down organics when the ground temps get closer to 70s.
This also contains distillers grains just like Ringer and smells awesome. Like hops from a brewery. I’ve never noticed a foul smell.
@@streetstylz Ringer also contains MOP. I've used Ringer and straight soybean meal and gotten the same results with both -- including the smell.
I've gotten better color from soybean meal than Milo, so I think it definitely works.
Question: If I fertilized with Scotts Turf Builder Lawn Food (32-0-4) on May 24 and I want to try this Purely Organic Lawn Food, how long should I wait before applying?
Probably 6 weeks or so
Great video looking to try this stuff. Hope it works out!
Ryan i have a question i hope you read this and help me my lawn when spring started was beautiful i aerated it i used milorganite at one point i used ironite it been raining and today may 12 2021 i have areas getting yellow any reason why is that happening please help me
Great overview. I'll be using a similar product this year as well!
Yeah Ryan u rocks man ;) just been shopping for sprinkler system and notification pops hahah
Me too well I was just looking for any lawn care video
So how do you weed and feed organicly? Thinking of going that route for the back yard now that we have a little one running all over back there. Thanks again for your videos
Once your lawn gets thick enough you really shouldn't need to spray or have many weeds. I have very very few and I don't really do anything with them other than pull a few by hand.
2:29 I ran a knife along the top of the box and made a small slit in the bag 🙁. Had to patch with duct tape. Didn't know it was that close to the top.
How do you like the Purely Organic lawn food so far Ryan? It’s been a couple of weeks since throwing ‘er down...anything to report yet?!
I love Sustain 8-2-4 as a general purpose fertilizer. I know you don’t need the phosphorus, but I would also recommend it as a miloganite alternative.
Home Depot has the best price for Purely Organic Lawn Food with free shipping
Yep! I bought two bags from Home Depot.
Last yr I ordered mine online. This yr they actually have skids of it in stock. I just finished a bag will be by tomorrow to pickup another 2 bags!
Is this product actually organic certified? I did not see an OMRI logo or any other organic certified labeling.
Nice video, Ryan! I used the same rate with this product as well. I was pleased with the results.
Good to hear!
I have the same spreader, I want a better one. When broadcasting milo a bunch just hits the right wheel and I have left with dark lines in my lawn where I walked.
I would like to get your thoughts on using Scotts green Max lawn food instead. 27-0-2 with iron included.
It’s synthetic fertilizer that’s low on potassium. It’s ok, a bit overpriced for what you get.
The biozome is beneficial bacteria added in to the product.
good pace bro!
I have read that synthetic will burn a lawn easily. Is it true the Organic is less likely to burn?
Lawn is looking good Ryan! I bought that same lawn food fertilizer and will be putting an app down this week. Are you going to be doing any lawn leveling this year?
Most likely fall
You have warm season so it needs to be fed when it's hot...you just have to keep up the watering
Thanks.
Yes it's safe
They don’t sell it at Home Depot you gotta buy it online?
Do you have any experience or know anyone that does with Scott’s Naturals product? Looking to get away from synthetic.
Lowe’s/Home Depot sells it only online for $22 is the cheapest I found
would you still use 9 setting if you're using the scott's WIZZ spreader???
Have you looked into espoma lawn food? I put that down end of last summer. Would appreciate your perspective on it!
That is poultry based organic...should work fine as well but I have wanted to try this grain based type
@@ryanknorrlawncare Thanks, Ryan.
This fert looks identical to Jobes Lawn Food. Maybe same distributor?
Have you ever used Nature Safe products as an organic alternative? I use about 10k lbs of it a year on my golf course.
I have not but I'll look into that
I finally found some Milo. If you need some, check Ace Hardware. Found some for $11.99 a bag. I'll have to try this out someday
Math is good 👍 Use it when ever possible please.
Does anyone know of a herbicide or combination of herbicides that works similarly to Tribute Total?
You mentioned pets in this video. Do you have a dog? How do you stop dog urine from killing your lawn.
Hey man. I put down milorgranite on my lawn 2 weeks back. I saw no results. I tested my soil with a kit from Home Depot It showed low ph so I put down fast acting limestone. Some of my grass is green and some turned yellow. You have any idea what happened?
Turf Builder Edgegaurd says 7.5 :-)
Thankfully it’s organic so it won’t burn. I go very heavy with this product.
@@streetstylz yeah, he still got the rate of N he was looking for...
