56 didn't have the opera window...
Yes they did, after the initial introduction, the porthole windows first appeared in 1956.
If this car is a 312, the manual transmission should have the electric overdrive. If it does not have O/D then the engine is a 292. I do not see the lockout cable for the O/D which should be close to the hood opener cable. So it probably has a 292.
Someone needs to de-fin this model bird and round over the quarter panels . Give it a radical redesign.
