It's not just the hats that lost their identity, the whole platform lost its identity. Ever since they became corporate, it's been downhill from there. Most of the ROBLOX hats that I bought yesterday are now overpriced and limiteds. The hats that we will have tomorrow are gonna be stolen iconic ROBLOX hats or online dating accessories or very few unique hats being uploaded. Man the greed is really gonna kill this platform.

Look roblox is just expanding its playerbase, sure oders are cringe and weird but like it aint like they're harassing you everyday 24/7 just ask people for hidden gems or good games on roblox, also og hats going for sale while being affordable to new players who find og stuff cool isn't a bad thing now is it

Hats make your avatar yours, they make your avatar stand out, and give your avatar personality. But with so many people wearing hats that all look the same, people don't stand out and people end up looking the same. It's why I'm not a fan of the noob avatar, or the bacon avatar.

No it's people who can't afford the disgustingly high prices for accessories and hair on the catalog now, it's expensive and they won't spend like a $100 to make an outfit.
i dont hate layered clothes but i hate how disruptive it is, I hate joining a game just to see this absolutely gargantuan avatar where you cant even see the body parts, or they just become completely invisible, ugc avatars are also disruptive but not to the extent of layered clothes
roblox has gotta add like a smaller size limit or maybe actually fix the many glitches with it

It genuinely feels like Roblox wants to delete their past. The entire classic event wasn't a fun experience that they promised it would be and ended up being a "I'M HAVING NOSTALGIA!!!!!" event and the fact they didn't even BOTHER to rerelease old hats, the ONE thing I was excited for since my previous account with tons of classics was terminated. It really sucks that instead of just simply reselling beloved hats so that more people can get them, they try to find dumb workarounds.
The fact they didn't include any classic games either speaks volumes

I'll be honest - I always wondered (and pissed off on) the point of Roblox off-saling random hats that were available to buy in the past anyway, they were not some kind event item or special exclusive obtainable-by-a-certain-way items like Blackiron Crown of Pwnage or Blackiron Domino Crown. Tho I think it's most likely because of limiteds and getting people to buy Builders Club.

I genuinely liked Roblox made items because it was so much more creative with their items than with these UGC items. Even as a 2021 player, I see the difference with Roblox made items and UGC items.

I used to hate public UGC because limiteds initially went down in value, but it seems that the UGC program has only brought more awareness to the OG limiteds and their value is very strong right now. Yeah there's ripoffs but it's really not that big of a deal. I've found that if you wanna have something that stands out, then purchase roblox hats with particls because UGC creators cant make particles on hats so they can't be copied. Or, limiteds with sounds like the transcient harmonica are good options aswell.

I agree, seeing copies of popular limiteds on the front page not only ruins the history of the item but, they also ruin its reputation. When I see someone wearing dominus, void star, kleos or any other popular hat I always think that they wear some cheap UGC knockoff and it usually turns out to be true. The funniest thing is that good ugc creators like Reverse Polarity get targeted and banned for normal items while knockoffs and inappropriate items dont get deleted at all. For me wearing knockoffs of popular items will always be like wearing fake brand clothes.

I dont feel like people should have guilt for buying copies of limited items, they probably just think it looks good and wants to use it without spending a lot of money. However, the sentimental value i understand but I feel like it shouldn’t drag onto affecting others experience on roblox, you know this history of your item, you know you got one of the only actual existing ones, you should feel proud and content. And if people really cared that much, they’d go through the effort of looking into your inventory and seeing its the real deal, which they don’t because that doesn’t matter to someone who just wants to enjoy roblox on their own, dont drag them down yk. There are MANY people that feel the exact same way about copies, and thats your own little community where you can appreciate how og each other are, js let other people play without them feeling judgement

No one wants to spend a bunch of money on limited when they can just buy it for cheap. You expect a platform full of children to pay hundreds of dollars for a item that they can just buy for under 100 robux on the catalog. I do think that the people making these fake ugcs are scummy but I really can't blame the people buying them. At the end of the day its just a game I think the only true problematic hats are the nsfw and nasty ones that arent meant for kids other than that I don't care about knockoffs.

I think allowing people to express themselves how they want to is more important than your feeling of exclusivity for purchasing an overpriced item that was arbitrarily time limited.
Remember: Sometimes it's not all about the value, it's about the style. Maybe some players just want to wear their favorite items, but can't afford them, and public ugc allows them to experience how it feels to wear their favorite item. sure, public ugc may ruin roblox economy as a whole, but it also came with the good, maybe a tiny bit of it, but still.
Frankly the roblox economy in of itself was a mistake, along with the insane prices of seemingly mundane items that just served as incentives for scamming. Lots of people just want to be able to make their avatar whatever they want and high item prices just put a wrench in all of that

Let them wear the knockoffs as long as you have the real ones why should you even care if people are allowed to be happy and have their own little avatars that they couldn't make before.
I agree 100%, why should anyone pay a fucking arm and a leg for a fucking digital item. Honestly, these limited accessories are overpriced and it's so expensive that only 0.01% community can afford. Some people just like the style of the hats.

I think most people just want to create a cool-looking avatar without having to spend a whole car down payment on a poorly made mesh from 2010. I don't see an issue with knockoffs as long as they're not straight up 1:1 copies. People seem to forget that Roblox themselves have a long history of ripping designs, artwork, and audios without purchasing the rights to it or even crediting the original creators.
imagine ugc creators uploading knockoff copies of iconic Roblox items instead of creating something unique just because it requires zero creative thought and will always continue to generate money regardless of effort

Copies in general, such as of jewellery or clothing are made and sold more for the similarity to the original product than by the object's own means, of course there is always the possibility that someone likes the product for its own sake, but usually someone buys a rolex or an imitation of it more for the fact that it is a rolex than for its ability to give the time

But also in general public UGC should've never been considered in the first place, because obviously a bunch of people would make stupid hats that are absolutely worthless and fake limiteds just to get some robux. I myself have bought a few of these myself (2 fake buckets of doom that I don't use, and fake domino crown used in a 1x1 outfit (also with a 1x1 face which can technically be considered a fake limited I guess?)) Like, yeah I have my 1x1x1x1 outfit now, but it still makes me feel like shit for buying a fake limited, and makes me wish Roblox didn't get rid of the feature to delete any accesory

Issue is the prices don’t compare anymore to an average player. Why buy a usually meh looking Roblox item at a hefty price when you can buy two UGC items that compliment each other at the same price.
Roblox hats aren’t made to be worn for the most part anymore, they are made to be sold and collected by sellers for mass profit.

You can go check their stock price, the past 5 years have been an effort to make their shareholders happy and keep the company floating. They killed off trading too, which was literally the main reason I played this game, now you just have a bunch of lookalikes on every soulless game.
I still use the hiccup's hat (the one with fire emission) in my avatar, since 2015. I don't think these kinds of classic items lose their identity, it actually makes them even more unique because they are original and unobtainable

If there's one thing a copy cannot copy, it's the history of the authentic item. Nothing can beat history and authenticity. I'll wear my rare hats knowing damn well they're like a medal to me. And there's nothing better than receiving a medal than to buy one at a store for yourself

Every hat on the marketplace these days seem like they are either replicas of some trendy meme or a blatant copy/retexture of an expensive limited. Still remember the time where everyone was rocking 1:1s. Hat's have lost it's appeal a long time ago
They aren't even hiding it anymore. before they had multiple pieces but today i saw : "black valk" and the preview picture was literally an exact copy of the black valk.
Some people couldn't afford these stuff because they were really young (myself included )and having these fakes are a way to be unique. The people who complain about fakes are the same one getting mad at someone simply trying to make their avatars unique for something they couldn't get by using what the catalog has to offer. Every avatar is unique, knockoff or not. Just because something is "rare" or something is "expensive" shouldn't make it exclusive to users, that is like saying one brand makes headphones (taking clockworks for example) and then getting mad at another brand for making other headphones that look kind of similar but function differently and just a way to add more variety to someone's character.
People are allowed to be unique and if that requires knockoffs then let them be unique, Roblox won't push more variety and that is why UGC existed. When people were making "custom dominus" hats back in 2015-2017 people wished they could actually wear them rather than it sit in studio, but for some reason that changed now. I don't get it.

I completely agree with you. Especially considering how some of the limited Roblox hats are literally just completely mundane and basic items without any actual uniqueness to them aside from their price tag and limited stock (take the Red Bandana of SQL Injection or Double Platinum DJ for example), it makes sense that there's bound to be some "knockoffs", if you can even call it that with the examples mentioned prior. It's literally just a red bandana and white headphones. People have absolutely tried to claim any other non textured red bandanas and white headphones were knockoffs.
Similarly, I've been playing since 2011, I can agree with OP in some aspects, but limiteds as a concept on a platform like Roblox that loves to preach that they're "powering imagination" is scummy -- I don't think imagination is being powered here, really, when having a creative avatar that represents you as a player is locked behind mass amounts of paywalls. I get the frustration that limited owners have, too, considering it does require effort to be able to gain the limiteds, but the fault in the first place is on Roblox, not anyone else. I always just saw Roblox limiteds as eco-friendly and less embarrassing NFTs.

Yeah, it's not that serious. You and a lot of other people are overthinking it way too much. I own quite a bit of expensive limiteds myself like the "Got Milk" visor and the Classic Viking helmet they could be copied for all I care they will never be the original and I quite frankly don't really care. I would in fact hope that they are copied to an extent as it's cool to see different versions of Roblox accessories that otherwise would never exist. As people make more copies of the accessory it only makes it more popular and more people will know about it.
While the accessories make a Roblox character unique and marketable the only people who will know anything about Roblox TH-camrs are people who are deep into the Roblox community. Outsiders to casual Roblox players will have no clue who you are talking about if you show them those Roblox TH-camrs no matter how marketable or unique your character is it doesn't matter at the end of the day.
Accessories definitely contribute to Roblox's history but at the end of the day, they're just polygons. I'm not running around telling people I bought a virtual item for over 100 dollars. It's not clothing me or feeding me, but they are still cool to own. As for the copies themselves people typically use them as inspiration so it is not a copy. Not only are they not copies, but they're not the originals. The prices of the original will never be affected as it's the original...
Most of those items NO one will ever own like the first Dominus including you, so I don't see the point in trying to guard an item that just about literally everyone on the platform will never get to own or is already off sale. Another thing is that all those items get taken down anyway, so yeah I totally disagree with Roblox accessories losing their identity. The best thing to talk about here would be the public UGC update and all the flaws that it has. That is the true issue here. Along with keeping items off sale. Keeping items off sale is awful. All items should be on sale.

Same i have about 70k+ of mostly classic stuff. I just like the look and style but I acknowledge that not everyone has the same style and expresses themselves with their avatars differently. One of the good things about modern roblox compared to classic is that you have so many more choices to express and make an identity out of yourself. I just wish classic avatar people just stuck to liking the style instead of whining about modern roblox all the time and how any style that isnt classic sucks and that it's a problem. Like brother just quit the platform or shut up its just a game... Enjoy your style and keep it moving

As someone who started playing roblox in late 2016-early 2017 this type of stuff just makes me sad since (i know you basically said this in your video but) these items just feel like they’re being devalued not only literally but also in a metaphorical sense in which they’re bring stripped of their “limited” or “famous” aspect. It really just makes me sad and just want to go back when all i cared about was becoming the manager in work at a pizza place.
Nah, that's why I no longer invest my allowance into normal expensive hats or normal limited, because only those with special effects such as sparkles,smoke,fire and sound are able to withstand their own value and unique prices that can't be replaced by random cash-grabbing ugc.
Not for long, roblox will introduce pbr and particles into hats in the future once performance issues are solved.

I joined Roblox in 2017 and I’ve always had a love for the classic style avatars on Roblox. Their simplicity is what makes them so amazing. The amount of dog water hats and items that are uploaded to the catalog makes it hard to find good items to go with that look since most of it now is brainrot or cheap copies of classic hats. Also, great video you earned a sub!

Yeah totally agree. When Roblox made their own items they felt so original and very lifelike while now we have hats made by literally anybody that are just effortless copy & pastes. When UGC began, those first few creators such as Reverse_Polarity and Diesoft, those hats had the same life and effort as Roblox made hats did too. This is a very well made video man, fun to watch.
I agree, I loved it before Public UGC came. But now finding an Item I once loved for years is bombarded with millions of cash-grab ripoffs and copies just for quick cash. Ever since Post-Modern Roblox Arrived (2019-2024), it ruined the creativity of Robloxians, thanks to the DevEx.

public ugc didnt even need to happen. i've been fine wearing hats by the people accepted into the program, there was no need for it to begin with.
I think the common people should get access to some older things that are no longer available or so comically expensive and rare that it makes liking and wanting one just sad, some series (like valks, domino crowns and dominuses) should stay rare since that's all they really have going for them, some deserve to be more publically accessible, wether that be with them coming back on sale via limited versions (like what happened with the silverthorn antlers, traffic cone and big head) or just getting cheaper versions (like with the bucket series)

i agree with you, one of my most iconic items has been ugc copied countless times, i used to be really happy when i saw someone else wearing it and would want to chat with them about it, but at this point i almost always assume its a ugc knockoff. i have to check the character page most times.
The issue is much more trivial than you are making it out to be. You are correct in the fact that hats by Roblox typically have history, but it is being portrayed as some sort of cultural erasure. Who cares if people are making fake limiteds? The history is still there and well preserved.
I’m ngl, with how big ugc is I don’t really think it’s an as big as issue. Yeah the original hats that were design from Roblox are now being copied and thrown around to make new hats out of them, but tbh what chance did a regular Roblox trader or player have if they really wanted a dominus pre public ugc. The amount of time and money you would spend just for a virtual hat is insane. In my opinion Roblox could have been more stricter with copying original hats and other ips, but this does allow those players that wanted those hats to actually afford them. Like tbh a dominus should not be worth insane amounts of real life money when it holds no real value.
The day that the Roblox website shuts down a ton of Roblox players that bought Limiteds or traded for them would just lose all the money spent into them. I feel Roblox could when allowed for some different editions of their famous hats, but tbh it’s Roblox fault for not regulating as much as they should have.
The only hats unaffected are items with effects, items with SFX or just rares that nobody would even want to begin with.

honestly i think this speaks volumes about the platform as a whole.
roblox these days feels drastically different from what i personally grew up with, that being the second half of the 2010's.
i think this was around the time roblox started transitioning into a corporate entity.
i think it may have started with the removal of tix. roblox may have removed tix and converted to robux so that they could get ads off of their website but still make enough money to sustain themselves. im not sure what their motive for removing ads was but im guessing it was money, they probably make more money off of robux than what advertisers ever made them.
and im not talking about the user ads that people can spend robux to put on the website, im talking about those old ads from actual advertisers.
beyond this point roblox has gradually changed into something completely different than what it used to be, and i feel like it truly has lost its original identity.
roblox has been pushing for the anthro avatars to be the norm and theyre pushing for so many strange changes, its very evident in their marketing strategies.
maybe they have been doing it to appeal to investors, which does seem to be working out. however, unfortunately its neglectful of their already existing userbase.
but i think roblox has been trying to make an effort to do some good stuff in recent times. like the fact that they even did the classic event is literally a miracle. honestly the fact that they even brought events back in the first place is a miracle, thats one of the best things they did in a long time.
roblox up until this point seemed like they were trying to bury their past. they have refused to acknowledge it until the classic event.
however, that may be all that we see in regards to that. roblox has been refusing to support new avatar features for r6 like layered clothing and a lot of packages.
i think that public ugc may be one of the many major changes we see of roblox gradually transitioning away from the blocky lego stuff and low poly hats we all used to love as kids.
it is very clear that roblox has vastly different goals nowadays than what they used to have. i remember that they were aiming to be the official lego mmo at some point in the past.
now they seem to be more focused on the whole metaverse concept and almost mimicking reality in some ways. and honestly its all very weird to me.

you make a good point, but in my opinion I think the public UGC is fairly good. Yes there are copies of famous hats that some people have worked very hard to get, but having these copies allows people to have hats that no normal person would ever be able to afford. I bought a knock-off domino crown a few days ago, and the cheapest domino crown is still THOUSANDS of real dollars that I would never afford. The domino crown has been my dream item ever since I found out about limiteds, and now I finally have a way of owning one.

It’s kinda scummy in my opinion that someone can swoop in, buy it for less than a U.S. dollar, and get to own it permanently, but that’s not to say I haven’t bought UGC items myself.

When i made my first avatar when ugc was just rising up i felt like it was the future of Roblox, where hundreds of unique items can make so many unique avatars but now i feel like it was Violated, Bastardized into nothing but cheap knockoffs
ive hated ugc from the start. i loved that you had to be creative when building avatars and every avatar item was known for something and had meaning. now noone has to be creative and there is an accessory for everything

Traders really hate Public ugc and ugc as a whole, as the only reason they are on Roblox is because of the limited Roblox items, and the feeling of obtaining an item that have went through so much history cannot be put into words.

I personally like the idea of that people can make their own hats and even make "knockoffs" of older items, as long as they add some sort of twist to it; as seen by the dominus's in your video. The thing that I don't like is the intention that Roblox has with this update, as we all know, giving players access to this system isn't about giving them more creative freedom; it's about driving the stock prices up and generating as much money as possible while putting in as little effort as they can. This laziness and lack of drive to make the game itself better is what leaves a bad taste in my mouth. We've seen this mindset suck the life and soul out of the games we love time and time again, like Call of Duty for example. Now, I do also understand that this has been a basis of what Roblox is with user-generated games, this is why I think around the 2016 era was a good point for Roblox. It had a nice balance of user-generated content while also still having Roblox be involved with the game like with, hats, sales, events etc.
I am a face collector who has mostly stuck to the same avatar since 2014 across several accounts, generally I prefer actual roblox hats, ive even shilled out money for decently expensive hats but not seeing everyone just able to upload a face or a copy of a hat has really demoralized me to keep collecting is makes my avatar feel a little less special because it was made at a time where having unique faces and items on you required creativity and looking for things along with the price that came along with them at times, now with public UGC avatars as a whole have lost their identity and uniqueness as a whole.

I own a few expensive limited items and hate to see them being copied. i especially have one of the more targeted limited items which is the immortal collection. It hurts to acknowledge how ROBLOX is slowly killing its game thanks to public UGC. It use to be "Powering Imaginations" to "Powering there money generators"
I'm pretty sure roblox allows so much limited copies because it makes them more money than if they didn't... which really sucks for people who actually care about the items and their significance

but there are so many issues that came with public ugc that its definitely a bad idea to give this much power to the entire userbase and think its a good thing and then just not caring about the moderation that comes with this
they promised us that we wouldn't be allowed to upload things which are copyrighted or are copies of limiteds, as time went on and more people got access, it went downhill and knockoffs started just bursting from the seams and roblox doing no action to counter it
In my opinion, I do think that making original variants of some limiteds are ok(e.g: a dominus with it’s own original spin, making it stand out from the crowd). But I do start to get a bit angry when people blatantly copy other pre existing items.

I’m glad I’m one of the hundred copies (around 5-10 in circulation) owners of monstar visor, it’s a semi-rare and I have never seen anyone wear it. Roblox hats always make you stand out and unique, when I wear UGC it feels like I’ve lost my identity
U don’t need an expensive or low copy hat to stand out but when I say how much I despite UGC it’s because everyone just has no identity

I never spent any money on Roblox until 2014 where i would buy my first few expensive hats, today some of those gift items are in the 6 figure digits. Sadly, sometime in July of 2015 i encountered an unforeseen issue, my account was compromised and me being a young teenager at the time i never set my account with the proper security features. I have no idea if i clicked on some bad link or one of the "Robux Generators" finally got me, but i was devastated to lose my account of 3 years. I previously had access to an account my friends older brother made especially for me but by that point in time we had already moved the old Dell computer into storage and replaced it with a brand new Windows computer, i made multiple accounts in 2015 and 16 mostly due to the fact that i kept forgetting passwords and usernames, then in 2017 i made my final account which i would use to the end of they year until the removal of guests. I have rarely played Roblox over the past 7 years and i do plan on coming back but so much has changed and the way i played Roblox just doesn't exist anymore. Most of the games from my childhood are either closed or left abandoned by their creators, Even Catalog Heaven has been replaced with the Catalog Avatar game. But there are a couple beneficial updates i do somewhat enjoy, for example, with the UGC items i enjoy the freedom that creators get when making their own Roblox items and i do feel they are in a way erasing our history but I'm so old i can't be bothered fighting a losing battle. Most Robloxians i meet in-game aren't even pre-2012 era which is crazy because i remember when that was the new guys XD. I've already spent over 15 minutes writing this and thinking back to old memories i've had on Roblox.

most roblox hats may have lost their identity (just like roblox itself), but there are still some that still have a real identity that cannot be replicated, 3 perfect examples of this are:
all 4 sound hats there currently exist
any item that has sparkles or something like that in it (egg of destiny, both spring and winter fairies, flaming mohawk, and many more)
and probably the best one in this list, the sparkle time classic pumpkin (it has dynamic lighting in it, which you can use in ANY game you can imagine, making this a really op hat for horror games)
It got to the point where i just stopped using ugc, i hate ugc, nothing could really make me use any ugc again.
I used to think this, thinking that it was a shame that the Roblox catalog is now filled with garbage and knockoffs of precious items I used to hold dear, but I just couldn't care less anymore. Roblox clearly hasn't been and doesn't want to take a positive direction for their platform, so why should I care?
With the advent (or should I say that it is more common) of games where they have a separate character customization, and your Roblox avatar is mostly meaningless save attributing hair, I found it increasingly difficult to find any value, if even cultural, in those expensive limited items, despite having the same outlook as you when I was younger.

Stealing assets is never something I condone but if someone wearing a UGC dominus or valk is none of my concern. *I* remember the legacy of these items, and I care about that, so *I* don't wear UGC versions. But I remember how I felt as a kid who wanted to customize her avatar so badly but couldn't afford any robux for even the cheap hats. It was a shitty feeling. Options were so limited and everything was expensive. Now kids can dress their avatars HOWEVER THEY WANT for less robux than ever before. I embraced it recently and now finally, after 12 years of playing Roblox, I feel giddy when I look at my cool avatar. It's mine. UGC let me express myself. UGC let everyone express themselves.

It’s not deep for new players but the whole ugc thing removed old traditions from the game like dropping limiteds, and made of sales useless like my skull bandana from the October box I got in 2015 now has 10 copies it just makes all the items I spent useless as I could of purchased it for 50 robux instead of the 500 I spent 6 years ago

Agreed man ever since public UGC came out nothing’s been the same anymore. Everyone I see is wearing some spiky Dominus or a fedora made out of glitter. And it’s sorta confused me for some reason. Sometimes I’m making an avatar and I’m looking through creative options but the problem is roblox doesn’t have the variety of items they had before, and it’s hard to choose from mid hats which are classic, or phonies which sometimes look accurate. I really hope roblox removes public UGC or atleast release better items :(
