"That's not a Code problem, that's a physics problem" describes a lot of my interactions with the more "interesting" architects I get to/have work with.
You must be a structural engineer. I don't envy you.
Wendel's childlike marveling at companies jamming all the revenue streams they can into a product without losing customers is just precious. You sweet summer child.
Seems like the SF Bed Pods was fashioned after Japan's "Capsule Hotels", but the key difference is the word HOTEL. In Japan, they're not meant for an extended stay or permanent residence. They're just supposed to be a low-cost bed you can rent for a few days while you conduct your business. Also sounds like the retrofitted brownstones were just slapped together if they couldn't even do basic fire code.
“Give it a proper lubrication and just enjoy.”
I have not received context for this yet and I just spit my drink on my screen
Don't we all
Fools and their gold are soon parted - what a wonderfully useful phrase ❤
About the ransomware attacks on executive's children. I remember when I was growing up in the 70's and my father became the bank president for the branch of a regional bank. We had FBI agents come to our home and interview me and my younger brothers and take our fingerprints and photographs of us. We also got a short talk on stranger danger. Maybe they need to upgrade the process?
I'm feeling so incredibly informed and engaged!
Long-time Sonos user here (from back when there was a knock-off iPod remote for the system 'cause they couldn't safely assume a typical user would own a smart phone). This new app took away my ability to search through my multi-TB local music library (started using Sonos when streaming was a crap-shoot of terrestrial radio stations or early Pandora) and play a single song or a whole folder (with or without subfolders). Now I have to build a playlist and stick to that playlist and it sucks. It even hides local music library content as an "input" buried behind menus instead of it just being a source like the older versions of their app. Sonos 100% hate that some of us were not streaming so they couldn't collect their cut of the subscriptions.
Horrible company.
A perfect example of "screw the customers, all hail the mighty shareholders" scumbaggery.
Can’t wait to try RustDesk! This is the reason that I love/ keep watching this show… Awesome content guys…. 😊
Yeah, the tiny bits of secret information sprinkled throughout the episode. Reminds me of the story on writing messages with footprints/etc in multiplayer video games.
My car got totalled on Monday. I wanted to go to the hospital to get imaging of my neck, which still hurts. The only place they could take me, the hospital's entire imaging department is shutdown under that malware attack.
Isn't the dead loved-one AI actually an episode of Black Mirror?
Cheap tiny home: Check the shed places near state/interstate highways, they usually have good sized 'finished' whether proof outer shells for $20k - $30k get it dropped off, add electric, plumbing, insulate, drywall, cabinets, etc... and you have all the basic 'Needs' to live. under $50k (Plus water and septic system) BUT Zoning is the biggest issue most places.
This, the problem is zoning
The switch announcement was very silly. The tweet says:
"This is Furukawa, the president of Nintendo. We will be announcing the successor to the Switch during this fiscal year for the first time in nine years since we announced the existence of the Nintendo Switch in March 2015. We will also be holding a Nintendo Direct in June to announce the Switch software lineup for the second half of 2024, but this will not include the successor model. Please do not misunderstand."
So they announced an announcement for Switch software, but this announcement will not be the announcement of the new Switch. That announcement will be announced later... Announcementception.
Thanks for sharing! See you on Friday again. :)
Wendell im a patron member, and i learned from one of the beat antique restorers in the biz. Sometimes its hard selling that stuff for what its actually worth, but if you need any restoration done. Hit a brother up!
I have an old Kenmore 1310 that I inherited from my grandmother (she no longer sews it hurts her hands). If I had a place of honor for one I'd ask but I love mine :) good luck in finding homes for them
The M4 is on TSMC N3E instead of N3B. That means higher yields and better margin for Apple. More important than the slight performance uplift.
as far as I know this node was delayed by 6 months. so this announcement for AI stuff was probably planned to be then but TSMC node development was delayed due to slower EUV process and yields.
Many old Singer machines are among the best ever done. Actually quite sort after.
About the Apple Pencil eraser back. I have the previous iPad Pro pencil (the magnetically attached one), which allows you to double tab it with your thumb/finger to switch to an eraser. This is actually much faster and easier than an eraser on the back end of the pencil. Mostly I use GoodNotes, so other apps might be different.
24:53 Wonder if they'll also add shapes to the colors... something angular for the yellow.
One of my favorite shows on the web. Thank you guys. You keep on bringing quality stuff year after year. Big respect.
6:16 Lol the Xbox headline was green screened out xD
What you said about ads is funny. I let the ads run when watching on TH-cam so you can get whatever you may get from it.
Best tech ad ever was Sprint's Theft Deterrent Phone.
Google Fit... I hope it doesn't negatively impact my Fitbit, had them for years before Google purchased the company.
so engaging
I like the hobbit house😂
once a company gets over a certain revenue threshold they should not be allowed buy or mege or aquire a substantial stake in any other company.
it only serves to consolidate the market and reduce competition and inovation not increase it.
I think the point of the hydraulic press was a play on how thin the new iPad is.
Ive tried to change a mercury tstat and have the customer tell me to leave the 100yr old one. The old mercury thermostats are the best
In the age of selling consumber data we have turned it into a comodity just as bygone era's, not really, of selling ivory, mummy colored paint (came from actual mummies), bush meat, and I'm sure much more that I lack the fortitude to look up.
At 55$ per 20 odd lends or two years you can buy your patron a PDF at wholesale (averaging out the books I would guess). Every time they want to read a book instead of them getting a 3 day loan.
"How will I know the volume level is on an even number now?" 😄
Gary Buechler called that, "Weaponized Autism". 😆
Alot of people misunderstand, but urban densification isnt about packing people in, its mostly about building things closer.
So, youre not legally required to have 5x the amount of garden as you have house, or 20x the smount if parking for a shop. (its called FAR)
Don't waste space and material for worthless things
Also not very good. I live in Moscow (the one in Mordor) and let me tell you, in some places of it the "increased building density" as they call it is ludicrous. No yards, so no place to relax and walk your children or let you older kids play, little parking which is a big problem for everyone, no rest for your eyes even once you look out of the window. Fortunate enough not to live in such a place.
I remember growing up in a smaller city (population about 1.2m at that time). There's similar problems in some parts of it but far from what I just described. And I did grow up in a city district that was built at the same time the car manufacturing plant was built/upgraded after WW2 (US specialists participated in that, on a side note), and advanced (for that time) housing was built alongside, with large yards, lots of greenery, lots of child care facilities and schools, alleys, parks, all very well thought out. Build quality was pretty high as well, in part because it was a point of pride and in part because German POWs took part in it.
It's not like you can do this in a larger city nowadays but there's got to be some middle ground. There has to be a space for outdoor activities, there's got to be parking sufficient for the number of tenants, and it has to look good.
same situation as you regarding Threads, Wendell

OH MY GOD! I was listening to the Jackie and Laurie show yesterday, where JACKIE WAS TALKING ABOUT HER EXPERIENCE WITH THIS EXACT SAME THING!!! Jackie Kashian (a stand up comic) was getting her car from Hertz, where she was told she would be signed up for an EV. She's never driven one and asked for a gas car instead. The "fee" was mentioned, Words may have been said. There could have been a Karen moment or two... She ended up getting charged for a car she didn't pick up, and had the same conversation at Budget as well. She ended up paying the fee at Budget and renting a car from them.
Here's the podcast. I don't remember the timestamp: th-cam.com/video/lTZzZCk3APQ/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=JackieKashian
Wow. I can actually hear Wendel and Krista for a change. I'm re-subscibing (for a week).
Engagement on. Be well.
Woot!
45:24 I have the exact same problem.
I know it was just a joke, but the mass badge-in wouldn’t work because they are also monitoring the sign-in location. They’ll know on-prem vs VPN users.
Anyone have a link to that office building study?
I am running a 3rd generation ipad 12” and it is still kicking butt for me.
How much power do old sewing machines draw? I'm sure far too much to run off of a solar generator for long. Excluding boots I've spent less than $200 on clothing over the last 12 years, though the wardrobe has nearly been darned to its limit. I would like to replace the nearly shredded walmart / old navy wardrobe with some very old thrift store finds that will hold up much better to repair than plastic shorts.
Good Stuff™ 👍🏼
I have your floatplane and floatplane stucks... When i background it, after ten minutes it pauses... However youtube revanced works great!
Ftx saga is pure comedi gold for the interdimensional being who created the universe for the lolz
15:45 Same thing happened at Chernobyl, but it'll blow over; I'm sure those MIC barons know what they're doing and care about the value of human life.
Link the document about the building conversions
Sadly, RustDesk is primarily developed in China to my knowledge, and the main dev doesn't have a good track record when it comes to fixing even the most trivial security vulnerabilities.
:(
Where can i register as "DATA Creator", and get paid for it by the "Collectors"?
I'm glad I'm not the only one struggling with Teams vs TeamsV2... pos.
18:30 would be ok for heaven's gate cults
Surface pen has an eraser on the back.
Microsoft shenanigans with updates is the reason I use "Windows Update Blocker". Not to mention I'll skip Windows 11. They have weird business plan with their OS. XP (great) -> Vista (we dont talk about Vista) -> 7 (great) -> 8 (yeah, no) -> 10 (great) -> 11 Ads edition.
Yeah i rolled back all our new business devices that ship with W11 to 10. It's just too inconsistent and ad-ridden.
Also I think a lot of people are looking at the apple ad as a representation of what AI is doing to tech jobs......
Lookup the 2008 LG crush ad. It's virtually a 1 to 1 remake. This situation is hilarious. In 2008 tech (Android in this example) was "empowering" creatives as smartphone cameras and creative apps were letting artists become more mobile (music and image creation in particular). Today of course the tech with it's emphasis on generative AI is allowing non creatives to replace artists with an amalgamation of the artists' own body of work. So not only is this apple ad tone deaf, it's also so on brand that it's 1) a rehashing of an existing piece of creative work AND 2) a feature android had over a decade 😅
netflix was 9.99 now they want 16.49 to go ad free or 6.99 with ads so I cancelled. Amazon wants 9.99 with ads or 12.79 no ads I only sub to prime here and there when i order stuff.
What SBF did is what normal banks do with our dollars.
Sort of, but SBF was doing it in a much worse way.
Hmmm, soulkiller-like ingrams... Almost there.
Hey y'all um I loved this podcast because the other guy wasn't there. (Sorry bro)
The chem between you two is way better.
Luv what all of you do either way.
Dunno I love his grumpiness
We all know what Steve Jobs would say! 32:58
“You’re fired!”
But not so nicely.
Now I want Pop-Tarts
Big company buy, everything gets better. KEKW
See you on Friday again
The AI picture thing sounds like some Harry Potter stuff
publishers should realize that limiting access to there books in libraries is a no win situation as limiting access will result in a less well educated generation which is more septically to unsupported mass type media who will not buy your books .
ps you would not have the hobbit background if not thanks to P Jacksons access to free library books in my hometown in New Zealand
Im not a doctor of brain surgent, but the air bubble in the bain/skull may get bigger over time and mess with the human gyroscope/ balancing function.
do u actually have sewing machines? loved the 60's singers.
Hertz is the worst rental car company out there.
54:05 Allegedly, the broken English scams were a good filter for those more vulnerable to scams. If you respond, you're likely to be a soft target. I guess that doesn't matter much if you have AI at both ends of the scam. One to hook the maximum number of victims with whatever form of high quality correspondence, and the other to talk them into the noose with infinite patience.
Wendle, one of the problems with your idea of former Google employees going off and starting their own businesses is that most, if not all, are under "non-compete clauses". While the US courts have been striking these clauses down, that doesn't mean that the ones for the Google employees are invalid. They may not be able to use the knowledge they acquired at Google to start a new company for at least five years. We know how fast tech moves, and their knowledge will probably be outdated and useless by the time they can legally use it.
Did they just rendered them illegal in entire US?
@@sznikersSort of. The FTC did state they were illegal in most situation, but I don't think the ruling has been challenged in court yet. (So it can still change.) Also, it does have carve outs where you could make a well-reasoned argument for then, in situations like radio stations and places with proprietary information. Sadly, Google's business fits into the latter situation. So, mostly this is to prevent employees in most situations (like hospitality work, most retail and restaurant work, janitorial, etc.) from being under non-competes. As a non-medical provider working in the healthcare industry, I would be relatively free from a non-compete clause. But the people laid off from Google probably aren't going to be so lucky.
@@jackielinde7568 but isn't confidential information handled by NDA? So you could provide work for competition as noncompete is gone but couldn't disclose algorithm used by google to them as you're still under NDA.
7th 🎉 early for once 😊 Happy Hump day from the future! Moar good news please, the bleak now has bleak attached with a side of bleak and bleak dessert 😅
47:47 HA!!! I don't live there anymore! HA! Jokes on them!
I'm going back to just downloading my media if they force advertising into it in any way. I don't pay for advertising. I want it for free if they are going to force adverts. You know damned well they will implement it in the most ignorant disturbing way they can. Super loud unable to turn them down. So no watching a movie while people sleep. Just like TV did. Easy to have a downloading laptop, infections or hardware destruction don't matter.
@ 41:28 The tolerance where people pay the absolute maximum amount for a service because of companies' ability to surveil the customers use of a product is a defining factor in some of the disgust and divisiveness happening.
Sean Carroll lays this out in his Mindscape podcast 270 th-cam.com/video/t1qxJI9nc2g/w-d-xo.html
Don't worry, we authors hate publishers too. Libraries are why we BECAME authors for crying out loud!
16:17 go watch the first 5 min of Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End.. haha
love the idioms, lol
Oh I knew apple was going to finally start supporting those X-serves they sold everyone just before abandoning them them.........
Engagement challenge….for $700…are you a top or a bottom?
"Its written in Rust so its secure" noooo not you too
Too bad i dont get my job back from being laid off due to the ftx bs
how did that happen
The expression is: Tempest in a teaPOT (not cup).
Funny, in my native language it's the [tea]cup. We need to update that worldwide. "Tempest in a small container of a potable liquid"
Physics problem just needs more money to fix. /s IMNSHO the problem with current capitalism/companies (greed) is that the people making the decisions have no skin in the game.
@Krista $700 a month is less then $24 a night.
Yeah, but what do you get for it?
Where is the other guy?
Apple Procriate... that sounds nasty hhahahahahaha
42:03 Just below the tolerable threshold is the Chinese existence.
speaking of the sowing machines, does wendel still have all those toilet seats?
Who needs bitcoin when you have ipv4 addresses as collateral?
The spelling errors in scams are intentional by the way. They assist in the self-selection of victims.
The SONOS app has always been crap.
After the Helldivers 2 fiasco here is Sony again with the same crap for Ghost of Tsushima I own this game on PS4 and 5 , bought it digitally from the PSN store and sony had no prob taking my money but now all of a sudden you are not in a psn enabled territory so no PC version for you it really sucks
FTX customers will be made whole in dollar terms since they price out crypto went up since then.
\o/
I've installed AtlasOS. No more ads & No more bloatware & No telemetry. Is running buttery smooth
41:27 How else will Amazon show shareholders how many people are watching the ad for Ring of Power season 2?
When AI can explain what rad is to a blind person I'll start to believe it's useful enough to do the simple stuff.
It's hard to explain a specific color even to a non-vision-disabled (or whatever you call it these days) person without samples/references. Back to the old question if the red I see is the red you see (even assuming we have identical eye capability, no tetrachromatism and stuff like that). Maybe I perceive red as green, but since I've been told it's red all my life we're on the same page? So it doesn't matter? Deep philosophy here :)
@@BoraHorzaGobuchul You're correct. Thanks for getting the point of the post.
@@Mr.Unacceptable anyways, AI has a long way to go to become really useful and, most importantly, dependable outside narrow tasks
@@BoraHorzaGobuchul Thus my statement.
