The amp that keeps on giving! I’m still finding new features and tricks with my mk2 head. Recorded wet and dry over usb simultaneously yesterday for the first time, after watching one of your older videos for guidance. Katana is THE amp to have and Studio Rats is THE channel for Katana tips! 🤘
Really because I haven’t able to download a driver that works and actually controls the input to the amplifier I’m finding that all the patches and access to the website a year now I’ve had this app and not able to get a driver that works properly
@@derekgreen4536 Comments to another TH-cam video suggest deleting files on the amp, pressing for a factory reset, then re-installing the down loaded drivers. I'm only shopping for an amp but I have had to do this once or twice when upgrading software on my laptop.

I've been recording with a Katana Artist Mk2 for a couple years. I got one of my favorite tones of all time with it on my cover of Zeppelin's "The Ocean" with a simple clean signal and Boss BD2 with the gain off. Worth checking out some of the tones I've gotten on the channel. But then I played my first real tube amp, and I HAD to have it. There is SO much more clarity. Strings that were buried in my playing on solid-state amps, suddenly and for the first time in my life, popped out just exactly as they were played rather than being buried in the digital soup. I now use either a Vibro Champ Reverb or a Fargen Blackbird 30 depending on volume needs, as my dry signal. The Boss makes the perfect wet studio rig, because I can plug it in to the desk silently so the cab and room mics only pick up my dry sound. Dry and wet channels become 100% discrete that way. Try it! My only caveat is that, in the studio I often simply do guitar effects in post. Sometimes though, I know in advance what effects I will want. This setup of having the Boss be the wet amp, is great for practice/rehearsal/live as well: at first I used to use the Boss cab but eventually realized leaving it on silent and running the wet signal through the mains, is glorious. Now if only the Katana line out was TRS stereo! Thanks for the content; I watch you guys all the time. You've inspired me to go out and find myself a Custom Shop R6!

Finally Boss adds a Klon OD pedal and the ability to change the chain. Fender has had these options in their Mustang GTX for years. Now we just need Boss to add these to the GT multi-effects pedals as well, and add in a Blues Breaker and a Dumble setting. Then it will be my do everything amp.
@@pez--- I thought I would miss the tuner in my previous 'bedroom amp'. But I haven't, not one bit. For $30-$45 bucks for a TC Electronic UniTune or Polytune, I can tune all of my guitars, plugged in and powered up or otherwise. Far more versatile (and likely more accurate) than something built into an amplifier. If boss were to make a Katana MkII and add a built-in Boss TU-3 then perhaps that would be welcome, but I don't think the TU-3 is as accurate as a Polytune, not even the clip-on models. Not missing it, honestly.
I've noticed since this update that when changing channels, their seems to be a delay between channels. It could just be me though, somehow. I think the new update is a good one. The new booster and extra EQ and the new chains has given me the closest tone i've ever had too what I'm looking for. The contour is really nice too. I now have a really nice tight chunky chuggy metal tone that suits most of the music I like to play. I'm pretty happy with the update. Thanks Paul and the studio rats for providing these free patches.

Great Job Paul! I have to download this one. I especially like the ability to put the mod before the distortion. Cant wait to try the klon boost as well! I keep hoping for an auto off wah feature (once you stop using the pedal for a designated amount of time... it shuts off... back on when you use the pedal again.. other modelers do it and it works great).
Excellent video Paul. A real game changer update from Boss. Especially with the effects sequence and direct recording options. Great to see that lovely Gretsch and the kidney losing P90 equipped LP. I dig the summer shirt…I live on a tropical island, so summer shirts all year round.
Awesome update! And the features are great but they could have made it a bit simpler to install. Basically do it right or your amp will become useless is kinda scary to read tbh.

Great video. Worth mentioning though, pedal bend/whammy has been an available effect for a while now, even on MKI's. Just have to select the effect on the Assign tab. Just ordered a MKII bc of this release, can't wait!

I am close to having the sound I dreamed of nearly 50 yrs ago. Only problem I am having is with my high E-string. It makes a pick sound. How do I get rid of that? I also have a Roland GR-33 Guitar Synthesizer. Have you done any videos using one of those with the KATANA?

Katana Question - I use a looper and would like to have my FX loop before the effects. Possible? When I have looping rhythm phrase, when I change to a lead tone with ‘delay’ the rhythm picks up the delay as well... not good. Can I move the placement of the loop? Thanks in advance \m/

I could never get the katana to sound good. I have the mk2 50watt and it just never sounded beefy enough. Way too shrill. Perhaps that contour setting could help that out.

Got a Katana Question: I’ve played with the chain a bit, but I still have effect overlay when using a looper and it’s really annoying. I record a phrase with channel 2 (crunch) and then with the looper repeating the phrase through the FX loop, I switch to channel 4 for a lead tone with a bit of delay. The problem is that when I switch, the delay effect from the lead tone is also present in the rhythm track!?!? I only have 3 chain option available on my MKI. Thanks in advance

Your videos are always great. I like the update but why didn't they go a step further with the chain section and give us mod, fx, booster before the preamp. It's rare that I ever run delay in front of the preamp. Sorry just so frustrating that they didn't think that was necessary. Thanks.

Love this patch, I play mostly classic rock and this patch has everything I could possibly need. The TSR crunch is my main for playing rock.

Sounds great a bit no go with my MK1 head. My HX stomp gives me all of this through the MK1, which is a great pedal platform.

I can't wait until I can download the new update, and record again. My computer was hacked and remotely locked, so I have to get the fund's fire another computer. Can't wait though, it looks like a reality good update.
Your videos are always great. I like the update but why didn't they go a step further with the chain section and give us mod, fx, booster before the preamp. It's rare that I ever run delay in front of the preamp. Sorry just so frustrating that they didn't think that was necessary. Thanks.
Hi Paul thanks great patches i have just downloaded them recently from tone exchange can you create a couple of patches similar to johnny marrs fender amp sound on this charming man and what difference does it make would be much appreciated 👍

These are some really nice additions and nice video too. I don't get how they "added" the pedal bend tho, we already had it, didn't we?
not sure if its me or my browser but I'm unable to find these patches. I searched on "studio rats" on Boss Tone Central and it gives nothing back. Thoughts?
