@@Guitarnivorenot only that, version 2.1 of tone studio for the mkii doesn't support Mojave anymore but version 2.0 does but it's nowhere to be found anymore. Basically, the software for the mki is fine on my computer but there's nothing available anywhere for my mkii since the update a few months ago! They should keep previous versions of the software on the site! Does anybody happen to have the file or know where to download it from? Thanks
I just wanted to thank you for helping me with the update. I was having hell till I found your video. I just did it in the steps you said to do and it worked!!! The only extra thing I did was made copys of all the Boss instructions. Then I took it step by step and it worked. I did it on my Toshiba Windows 7 laptop. Again thank you for the help!!!

READ FIRST BEFORE RANTING ABOUT HOW THE SOFTWARE DOESN'T WORK. This video follows the instructions from Boss exactly how they explain it on their website. If you have a problem with the upgrade, chances are you may have missed something or did something incorrectly. The first most common problems is downloading the incorrect software and/or firmware. Not only do you have to upgrade the amp's firmware, you have to install the latest version of Boss Tone Studio (2.1.0 as of January 2023 and it works with this firmware version), otherwise it will not work. The links are in the description. The second most common problem is not following the instructions of copying only the FILES from the system folder into the amp and copying the entire folder when the instructions and this video clearly tell you not to do that. The bottom line is pay attention, listen carefully and follow closely. Thanks for watching and enjoy.
Hey man I downloaded the Tone studio and updated my katana but Tone Studio says "driver software must be installed on the computer to complete the connection to the Katana MkII."
Sometimes the driver doesn't automatically install. I would try that first. I would also check that you downloaded and installed the Tone Studio for Mk2 and no Mk1. All the up to date files are linked in the description to a zip file.
Excelent vid, one thing to mention, the latest version the booster light has to be red, (02:38), Anything else and it needs an update, eg green, see the support page, this may have been updated since this was created, many thanks
There is no other form of the firmware where only the boost light is on or any other color (yet), that's why I didn't specify that it had to be red and I was showing that I still had the old firmware.
I can't find BOSS TONE STUDIO for KATANA MkII VER.2.0.0. I can only find I can't find BOSS TONE STUDIO for KATANA MkII VER.2.1.0 is there a difference?
2.1.0 is the one you want. That's the newest version of Tone Studio and it's the one you want. They updated Tone Studio again back in January 2023, but the steps are all the same and the firmware works with 2.1.0.

My Katana MKII makes an audible 'click' noise whenever I change patches or when I hit the ✅after I rename a patch. It didn't do this prior to the update.

You're disconnected form the SUB cable when you press/hold the CH1 and Panel button while turning it on and waiting for the lights to flash before connecting it to the computer again? That should bring it up on your mac. This is from Sweetwater: Download and extract the latest system program for your device on the Boss website. Turn the Master knob all the way down, press and hold the CH1 and PANEL buttons down, and turn the unit on. Once the LED’s flash, you are in firmware update mode. Connect the Katana to your computer via USB. The LED’s should now stay solid red, and BOSS_KTN*** should appear as a removable storage device. Open the BOSS_KTN*** drive, then copy and paste (drag and drop) the KATANAM*.BIN and ROMINFO files from the extracted System Program folder you downloaded. Do not copy the actual folder. Eject the BOSS_KTN*** from your computer. Windows: Right click on the BOSS_KTN*** icon in My Computer and click Eject. macOS: Drag the BOSS_KTN*** icon to the Trash icon in the Dock. Unplug the USB cable from your computer. The Panel button will begin to flash. Press the Panel button to begin the update process. When all Effects LEDs slowly flash green simultaneously, turn the unit off.

Hey dude, after installing the boss tone studio 2.0.0 software. I start the software and there's a pop up saying "You are using an older version of Katana MK-ii. Update to the latest version." and then I try downloaded the 4.0.0 version but still the connection with the amp failure. Can you help me solve this problem :(
You downloaded the Mk 1 software. There is no 4.0 for the Mk 2, only 2.0. You should have started with the amp software first, updated that and then updated the tone studio software. The links are in the description. Choose the "KATANA Mk II System Program (Ver.2.00)" when you get to the page.
Thank you for this video. I will follow the instructions step by step like this. However, if I make a mistake somewhere, could the katana be destroyed? or can I set it up again? When testing which version my katana has, the LED booster and FX light up green!?
Usually just doing a factory reset will fix any mistake you make during the process. Just remember to copy only the two files and not the whole folder to the amp when you get to that point. Do no copy the BTS file or the driver to the amp.

Hi my tone studio is currently at Version 1.10, if I update the Katana itself, would it also update the Tone Studio? Or do I need to uninstall 1.10 and install version 2.00?
You need to update both tone studio and the firmware. The firmware is currently at 2.0 and the tone studio is at 2.1. All of the up to date files are in a zip file in the description. If you already have the driver, disregard that file.
Thank you for the guide. Now, how can one confirm the Amp has the new firmware version? When I go to windows device manager, still shows drive v1.0.1. And on Tone Control Studio we can only see the version of the Tone Studio software, not the amp.
At 2:24 of the video it shows you how to check. The latest version will be only the red boost light. That's the only way to check. If you have any other lights on when you go through that process, then you have an older version. If you've bought the amp in the last year, you might already have the latest version.
Check your firmware version. If it's not the latest one, it won't work with the latest Tone Studio version. Also make sure you downloaded the Mk2 version if you have the Mk2 Katana.
What is the file name that is needed for the firmware update? Everytime I try to drag them to the boss folder I got a warning that there's not enough space available
Katanam2.bin and rominfo.txt. if you still get that error, try doing a factory reset on the amp and try again. Starts at 3:17. They're in the system program folder and not the tone studio.
I can't connect mine. It's says..."Please select external MIDI/AUDIO device connection. Please turn the unit from slave mode to normal settings. " Already try all the options available and nothing.
The firmware and the Tone Studio versions have to be the latest version. Ensure you download the MK2 version of Tone Studio and not Mk1. All the files you need are in a zip file linked in the comments.
Late to the party but I just got the amp. I've done everything in the video, including the microphone settings and my amp still wont connect. Any ideas?
so we don't have to download the drivers? Only sys program and tone studio? Edit: I've completed the steps and indeed the program is asking for the drivers. You've left out a crucial step
Sometimes you don;t have to download the driver. One way you can check is to open Windows Control panel, put it in small icons mode and check to see if there is a Katana icon among the others.

hello. my katana is just flashing red after tapping panel and it isnt going green or anything as you said. i have factory reset it and still hasnt worked
When I press the panel button at 4:25 the lights keep flashing red ... I feel this is because I unplugged the printer cable? Should I keep it connected via USB when performing the update?... it won't stop flashing...
@@Guitarnivore because in the video it shows you unplugging the printer cable, then performing the update sequence on the amp physically. But, even when It is connected to ky computer and im transferring the files the 'panel' button won't flash to enable the driver update... sorry If this doesn't make sense.

Are all 4 blinking red at the same time? If so, you may have done something incorrectly, like copying the whole folder to the amp and not just the two files.
I know I may have said in the video that the driver should install on it's own, but have you checked that it has in control panel? If it didn't, I would suggest installing the driver from the link below. @@Guitarnivore I haven't done that yet. If I go to connected devices, I can actually see the amp. I can change my audio settings to the amp itself as well, but I just can't update it so nothing works. It won't show up as a storage device.
Thanks for your help! One thing I am getting frustrated with is that I cannot seem to be able to save different settings in the tone studio for each of my three booster types on one single channel. I am currently using overdrive, 60s fuzz, and muff fuzz, and would like to have different bottom levels and tone levels for each of these. But for some reason, every time I change the level for these settings for one boost type, it changes for every boost type in that channel. Am I doing something wrong, or is it just not possible to have different values for each boost type in one channel?

Thank you for the guide. Now, how can one confirm the Amp has the new firmware version? When I go to windows device manager, still shows drive v1.0.1. And on Tone Control Studio we can only see the version of the Tone Studio software, not the amp.
At 2:24 of the video it shows you how to check. The latest version will be only the red boost light. That's the only way to check. If you have any other lights on when you go through that process, then you have an older version. If you've bought the amp in the last year, you might already have the latest version.

Having trouble connecting the Katana to the computer. New cable but Tone Central won’t talk to the amp. So frustrated! Any suggestions?
Check your firmware version. If it's not the latest one, it won't work with the latest Tone Studio version. Also make sure you downloaded the Mk2 version if you have the Mk2 Katana.

What is the file name that is needed for the firmware update? Everytime I try to drag them to the boss folder I got a warning that there's not enough space available
Katanam2.bin and rominfo.txt. if you still get that error, try doing a factory reset on the amp and try again. Starts at 3:17. They're in the system program folder and not the tone studio.
I can't connect mine. It's says..."Please select external MIDI/AUDIO device connection. Please turn the unit from slave mode to normal settings. " Already try all the options available and nothing.
The firmware and the Tone Studio versions have to be the latest version. Ensure you download the MK2 version of Tone Studio and not Mk1. All the files you need are in a zip file linked in the comments.
Late to the party but I just got the amp. I've done everything in the video, including the microphone settings and my amp still wont connect. Any ideas?

When I connect the AMP to my PC, it shows the "Boss_KTNMK2" as an device but it vanishes shortly after, like 5 seconds. Do you know how to fix it?
You may have a bad USB cable.

You installed the MK2 Tone Studio, right. Sometimes we make the mistake of installing the old MK 1 and it doesn't work.
so we don't have to download the drivers? Only sys program and tone studio? Edit: I've completed the steps and indeed the program is asking for the drivers. You've left out a crucial step
Sometimes you don;t have to download the driver. One way you can check is to open Windows Control panel, put it in small icons mode and check to see if there is a Katana icon among the others.

When I press the panel button at 4:25 the lights keep flashing red ... I feel this is because I unplugged the printer cable? Should I keep it connected via USB when performing the update?... it won't stop flashing...
Yes, you should keep it connected. Why would you disconnect it?

But, even when It is connected to ky computer and im transferring the files the 'panel' button won't flash to enable the driver update... sorry If this doesn't make sense.

It's just your common USB 2.0 A to B cable that comes with a printer. You can find them on Amazon for about $5.
Can you do one for the Boss Acoustic singer live? Are they update-able.

Are all 4 blinking red at the same time? If so, you may have done something incorrectly, like copying the whole folder to the amp and not just the two files.

The BOSS isn't being found as a storage device on my PC and I can't figure it out, have been going at it for about 3 hours. Any tips? Please help.
I know I may have said in the video that the driver should install on it's own, but have you checked that it has in control panel? If it didn't, I would suggest installing the driver from the link below. @@Guitarnivore I haven't done that yet. If I go to connected devices, I can actually see the amp. I can change my audio settings to the amp itself as well, but I just can't update it so nothing works. It won't show up as a storage device.

Thanks for your help! One thing I am getting frustrated with is that I cannot seem to be able to save different settings in the tone studio for each of my three booster types on one single channel. I am currently using overdrive, 60s fuzz, and muff fuzz, and would like to have different bottom levels and tone levels for each of these. But for some reason, every time I change the level for these settings for one boost type, it changes for every boost type in that channel. Am I doing something wrong, or is it just not possible to have different values for each boost type in one channel?
You can only set one boost per channel.
Once Tone Studio works can I delete the Katana and Katana Readme files?
Yes, you can delete the files. Even if you do a factory reset, the firmware remains the same so you really no longer need them.
I use katana librarian on my phone to run mine, I don't have Windows or Mac. Do I need to worry about updating the firmware on my amp?
Only if you want the latest updates. How old is your Katana?

How long have you had it? Is it still under warranty? Also, have you tried a different USB cable?
