Don't forget Sam, light detectors can be used creatively. They are not just for lighting. For example, I have used it to tell lighter and darker colour tones. For example, dark trousers with a lighter shirt. Doesn't give the colours but it gives you an indication. I've used it to tell different colours of paper from the pitch of the tones. Also, to check whether a TV was on or off. For example, we are often using sound bars and sometimes when the sound isn't coming on, it's easy to tell That the TV is coming on through the Light Detector. Helpful when there is a bit of a technical problem with the sound bar et cetera. I've also used it to tell me if a smart bulb is in detection mode when it's flashing on and off. Also, to Check if a product is on by checking the LED light status.
Thanks for sharing! I’ve been low vision for a while now. I gave up on assistive technology for a while. I just met with a retina specialist and low vision counselor. There is some really helpful things out there that didn’t exist years ago. It’s very easy to try and ignore my low vision, especially when I don’t find solutions I like or at all. I remembered your channel, which I have been subscribed to, but never see pop up. I looked you up, and the first video I watched has a game changer that I didn’t realize existed. Thank you soooo much Sam!
I find Envision AI To be pretty good at document scanning. It also starts reading documents out straight away, with no need to press a button at the bottom. This can be handy for those of us with very restricted vision.
Thanks for the heads up about this app for Android. Could not find it in the Google play store. Used your link on my iPad. It was found and installed on my Motorola phone automatically. So cool. Thanks.
I too coiuldn't find it in the google play store using the search there. I, too, had to use Sam's link to get to it. Wierd. I guess there's some lag in getting the search indexed.
Sam, great video! I use this app when watching webinars resume presentations. In doc mode/channel, can take a picture of the information on the screen (which might contain email or speaker contact contact information) and it converts the content to readable text… Which I can then copy and then paste in my Notes app! Super helpful. I bounce between Seeing AI“ in my notes function as I watch the video presentation on my iPad. It’s quick and generally very accurate.
@@SamuelSeavey thanks! I just tried searching your videos. I’m looking to possibly purchase a camera issued videos. I generally do it with my iPhone. I have very low vision, so I rely on seeing the screen on my camera versus a viewfinder. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Depending on how much camera you need , the latest Sony Alpha cameras have a built in screen reader which is fantastic I'll have a video about that coming out very soon.
Nice video! I really dont think i need most of these features but omg handwriting!!! I have a hard time understanding people's handwriting and when i was doing my Master's if i missed any notes had to take friend's notes and understanding handwriting was an issue! Whenever i need to read handwritten stuff in the future I'll surely download the app! Hiii I'm Abdullah from India and I have retinopathy of prematurely.
Another way to stop Seeing AI (quick text) from talking when you've heard enough (and to have it turn off the camera) is to navigate away from the Seeing AI app. I found the most effective way is to just hit the home button. I'm finding myself using Seeing AI quick text channel frewuently as I scroll Instagram on my desktop computer. Many of the meme images have text I can't read, so I use Seeing AI's quick text pointed at my computer monitor. But I don't want t leave SeeAI looking for quick text while I'm scrolling and don't need it. So I put the phone down on the desk and just hit the phones home button to navigate away from Seeing AI, then when I need it again I pick up the phone and hit "recents" to navigate back to Seeing AI (which is still in the quick text channel. Works well enough for me.
Great information. ive been using google lookout, and was wondering if there is anything different from that app and the seeing ai one. i am still exploring how to use the lookout, but it seems to do the same as seeing ai. would you recommend one over the other? thanks.
I just tested , any of the tools that need to take a picture do not work without Internet. However the ones that don't need to snap a picture, like the instant text and currency identifier work even on airplane mode.
I spent an hour trying to find this in the app store, then it said it won't work for my Android device. I need to start a youtube channel called The Blind Poor Life' I guess. Me and my crappy 3 year old phone.
Great!! Do you know, or can anyone comment as to the Android version required for this app to work on a given phone? Current version is 14, but there are a lot of phones out there that can't run that. Particularly the government phones.
I'm legally blind and have a question regarding reading apps. What app would be best suited for reading (stories) from web pages. Not kindle or other electronic books but stories or articles off of a website. Any ideas?
First of all, I am not at all tech savvy. My son downloaded this app to my iPhone recently. How do I use it? I cannot see the screen at all to go from one mode to another etc. I just got a smart phone in May and am totally afraid to use it because I cannot see all the buttons and if I use or listen to a pod cast, my battery runs down. I cannot see if I shut off the app or not. I know I jsut found your channel and it is probably anwered somewhere but I cannot see the hphone to use it!
Seeing AI forces a tutorial, just like how your smartphone will force a tutorial for VoiceOver (iPhone) or TalkBack (Android). Your screen reader (VoiceOver or TalkBack) can help you navigate and close apps. Seeing AI will announce which mode it's in (Short Text, Document, etc.).
If you can't use the smartphone visually then you will need to learn how to use the screen reader. On iPhones, it's called voiceover, on Android, it's called talkback. That will be the only way you will be able to use the phones properly. To learn how to use this app specifically check out my other seeing AI videos. Go to TH-cam and just search for seeing ai and you'll find them.
Is there a fast easy way to make it STOP, if you are trying to read text and it grabs some text and starts reading but its not what you wanted to grab, On the old App "Lookout" there was a button that stopped the reading so you could reposittion and try again.
I'd like to be able to get rid of my desktop and laptop and just use an Android smartphone that I could dock to a large monitor and keyboard as necessary. Unless you do alot of video editing or gaming, most high-end phones probably have enough horsepower to be a daily driver.
I don't know the exact amount, but my daughter downloaded it on her phone to try it for me. She said she was getting very low on storage space and it took very little space. She played with it for a while and was so impressed that she came to my house to load the app for me. I'm in LOVE! I just ordered an Orcam and took it to the store today. It was frustrating to use. I think I will send it back and use this instead.
@@abdullaluqman7776 I will submit this feedback to the team. For best results submitting feedback from the website would be best. I’ll take care of this one and report back.
That is because the environment you’re using it in needs more light. This helps take better pictures and helps the app read better. If you do need to turn it off navigate to the top left of the screen when the app is open and click on the menu then click on settings and navigate to manage lighting.
