    Užupis is not an independant republic (Už - behind, Upė - river), it's just a block of Vilnius (Behind the river Vilnelė), where a lot of art people came to live, because it was cheap (my friends dad bought a flat there for 3k euros (~10k Litai) back in a 1995, now it's worth about 100k euros), and they created all that "freedom" stuff. But if you look closely, you will see that all that constitution of theirs is just another art form, like "Everyone has a right to be idle" or "A dog has a right to be a dog" and so on. Park you found near the river is called Bernardinų sodas (garden of monks "bernardinai"). Until the 14th century, in the territory of Bernardinai garden there was a Lithuanian pagan saint oaks forest and later - garden of monks. Bar Šnekutis's name, where you were eating pancakes, means "Chatty". There. It was fun to look at my city from your eyes, glad you liked it :)

    Visiting Lithuania should include visiting not only capital, but going to Palanga for a day trip during warm weather. If You go at last weekend of July then go and see port city Klaipeda for another day as it is biggest festival in Lithuania lasting from friday till morning monday called Juros svente. Next day You can head towards Neringa with a short stop at Juodkrante.

Its definitely a gem of Lithuania, very unique and special 😊 Glad you liked our capital Vilnius and Trakai castle. Best Wishes from Lithuania ❤️

    I DO love your videos!! I feel like I'm actually with you where ever you are. I love all the info you provide--historical or not. This city does look like a beautiful walk-able place. That's one of the major things I love about Europe--being able to walk to so many beautiful places. I also love how there are always many different well-maintained--and utilized--parks--even in small towns.

    You guys are sweethearts... ^^ It was really nice seeing someone enjoy the city I live in so much and look at it through your eyes. I watched your Trakai video as well and I wanted to shout at the screen, when you didn't know where to go to have dinner, because the answer was so obvious - Senoji Kibininė! That's the place to go! I had a strong urge to show you the cool places I think you missed out on in general. There's so much you haven't seen... Anyhow, I wish you all the best on your upcoming journeys and if you ever want to revisit Vilnius - I volunteer as your very own guide. ^^

    I am American, live PT in Vilnius, Old Town is really nice ... for people wanting to visit Vilnius, understand something, Lithuania was once part of the Soviet Union, so you will see ALOT of Soviet Flats/Apartments and you will also see ALOT of graffiti as well. English among the young people is common, most places you visit especially in the tourist areas speak English, so, just understand, English is pretty well universal throughout the world .... driving is easy, just like we drive in America as to steering wheel side and the driving lanes the same like the states .... go to the Baltic Sea cities, you will like it, it is really nice area ...

    I was really sad that they didn't try kepta duana or go to Klaipeda, Palanga, or the Hill of Crosses. But it did seem that they were short on time so they hit many need to see or eat things in LT. I lived in Klaipeda for five months and loved every moment of it. 10/10 would recommend visiting there to anyone!

    I enjoyed watching you visiting my home country and I would love to if you come again someday...the dish, which you've tried (cepelinai), can be made in 2 ways, the potatoe dough to be exact. Cepelinai dough can be grated or boiled. (As a lithuanian I see the diference :D). Maybe Ashley would like it more if potatoe dough would be made differently :)

    P.S. I LOVE my postcard! I love that it came all the way from Estonia to MY house! You chose it, doodled on it, thought of ME for a little bit, carried it around, put mailing it on your list of things to accomplish in your day...where did it go and who touched it on its way to bringing ME a moment of joy? I know I am a little bit nutty but those are the things I think about!

I know this is terribly bad lithuanian, but here face lit up with a smile and said you know our language. I said i read a knygis or two. They know their language is the most difficult to learn so they get so happy when you try. Wonderful people. By the way my girl is lithuanian, but not not the waiter;)

      yeah the Japanese survived 2 atomic bombs back in the day aswell and look at them now.. one of the, if not the most innovative countries in the world. shitty past (occupied by CCCP) isn't really a valid excuse anymore considering how much time has passed since Soviet era, it's about the people and their diswillingness to change for the better in this country.

    About the soup- its basisally the same. Lithuanians and Latvians make it more simple while Russians and ukrainians add cabbage, even beans . Latvians for example like to put meat in beet soup

    We went to Lithuania from Latvia, last summer and also had this parking thing, it seems they have good way how to earn extra money from tourists :D

    • @WAYAWAYWithAsh
      @WAYAWAYWithAsh  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Haha, it's true, we saw a guy just going around giving tickets in the tourist spots. Turns out, a bus was parked in front of the pay station so we didn't see it. :p

      Oh, trust me, we locals have those issues as well. That ticket box is always in some invisible place.

      Atleast in Vilnius you can use app called "m.Parking" where you can link your phone SIM card with car plate number in 5mins, so basically you paying for parking from your phone (different parking zones, so phone just catch it and you dont need to worry about it to much). Not sure if this app works in Trakai tho... But its the same everywhere around Europe, city centers and touristy places crowded, so have to manage traffic somehow :)) Hope this not going to leave bad taste after getting ticket, we all here equal to those laws :)
