    Books were surprisingly entertaining. Also, props for getting on this when other channels are asleep at the wheel.

      I think people might be too excited for the next season of House of the Dragon to make any room in their heads for another show for the time being. But once we see a teaser, I'm sure folks will definitely start paying attention.

    THE HEDGE KNIGHT! One of my faves.

      Such a cool simple concept. I ripped right through all three stories. I wish GRRM would write one or two more.

    I just read 'Fevre Dream' which tbh is right up there with 'Interview With The Vampire' as a modern retelling of the myth.. Loved it and definitely worthy of a limited series...

      Just ordered. Thanks for the heads up! I haven't read anything from that early in his career.

    The Summerhall Tragedy is one of my favorite bits of lore in ASOIAF so I really hope the show goes long enough to get to that in the final episodes, GRRM hasn’t explored it too much in the books yet but since when has that stopped HBO lol.
    Could definitely lead heavily into a show about Robert’s Rebellion too if they play it that way since Aerys II and baby Rhaegar are pretty prominent at Summerhall
    Great video as always, James!

      I'm dying to see what really went down at Summerhall but hopefully GRRM will get there first before any TV writer. One more novella with Dunk and Egg would be a fantastic surprise.

    Despite the wild fan casting , this just seems to be the way HBO tends to cast in this universe ; up and coming , relative unknowns , often transitioning from stage to screen types. And it has worked very well thus far tbh. I am a huge fan of D&E and hope this is a well done series that really captures those novellas and hope even the causal fans receive it as well. I never viewed D&E from a neutral lens , i was already a longtime ASOIAF fan when i read them so do hope the more casual fans get it , provided the series is well executed. On top of this casting an interesting aspect with the characters in D&E there are so many iconic characters on offer in the novellas , which i think would appeal to the more recognizable faces / actors (though far from household names) HBO tends to mix into the casts in these ASOIAF adaptations. These iconic characters include those we knew about before the novellas , introduced during and even younger versions of characters from the main ASOIAF series. So many interesting cameo / recurring role opportunities in D&E.
    My main worry , which will likely be a realized ; i just hope HBO could resist the temptation to surpass the source material. We saw what can happen doing so with the latter GoT or "Bloodmoon" (which had next to no source material). Three relatively short novellas can be eaten up rather quickly in 3 mini-series seasons or 3 shortened / six episode seasons. And if well done and popular i do worry HBO will just persist and continue beyond the existing novellas.

    Love the Tales of Dunk an Egg
    Its a fun lighter tone and its a road adventure
    Excellent Stuff
    The Tilt sequence in the book is fantastic
    Im all for them making Aegon's Conquest
    To watch the Field of Fire 🔥 on the small screen would be epic

      I love the tone as well. I love that one jousting sequence where a more skilled tourney knight about takes off Dunk's head when he catches him on the helmet instead of the shield.

    The audiobooks of the three Dunk & Egg stories are great. There are some pics of Peter Claffey online and he is quite the specimen. I have also lost hope on any new books from Martin. You did a collab with another TH-cam channel 'In Deep Geek' a couple of yrs ago and I dug it. Would you ever go back and talk Dunk & Egg or Fire & Blood?

      Thrilled to hear' that Caffey has the physical stats to pull off playing Duncan the Tall and I'd gladly go back on In Deep Geek anytime. I've always appreciated past invites. But with all these shows on the horizon, I'll definitely be discussing GRRM's work a helluva lot more on this channel. Looking forward to making videos on the subject all summer long.

    I'm looking forward to this more than I was for House of the Dragon. Dunk & Egg are such great characters, and lot of world-building takes place around their adventures. There were rumours of a fourth novella featuring the two up in the North involving the "she-wolves", which intrigues me to no end. And there is speculation that they were in or involved with Tarth, leading to the origin of one of the big characters in the A Song of Ice and Fire novels. But I agree that Summerhall is the biggest mystery, and if we get even a glimpse of that event, I'd be more than satisfied. But that Dunk better be at least 6 and a half feet tall and built like a brick shithouse. If you ever want to discuss this series, let me know!

      Mr. Huck! Assuming the show doesn't make me want to projectile vomit out of my ass and mouth at the same time, I would be delighted to discuss it with you anytime.

    Do you have a Tokyo Vice season two non spoiler review incoming, James? Season two just finished streaming on Max and I'm waiting for a UK release date, would love to hear your thoughts on it. I loved season one. I'm currently reading Lone Wolf and Cub, just finished Volume six omnibus (Dark Horse Manga with cover illustrations by Frank Miller). Classic material, Ogami Itto is the John Wick of feudal Japan!

      I read the first two or three volumes of Lone Wolf and Cub and definitely need to get back on the horse. Big fan of the movie 'Lone Wolf and Cub: Sword of Vengeance'. Unfortunately I won't have a review of Tokyo Vice. I fell off around ep 2 or 3 of the first season and never got back into it.

    I've got one of the series but it's barely been touched,keep forgetting about it. Light and breezy is nice, all that murdering is psychopath stuff...

    • @geekinwithJamesHancock
      @geekinwithJamesHancock  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Well there's plenty of killing, but also plenty of comedy as Duncan the Tall learns the hard way how to joust properly.

    • @joewatts9132
      @joewatts9132 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's no surprise that killing is in it just knowing the series and the authors work, as long as it's not the main feature, constant. The tall guy probably gets his knees jousted off and becomes the small

    • @geekinwithJamesHancock
      @geekinwithJamesHancock  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      At 6'4'', he could totally pull it off, but perhaps has aged out of the role. Dunk is definitely at the beginning of his career in the first story.
