You found the most talented band around today. However, they are not metal. They are rock at their core, but delve into just about everything. Watch them live, maybe "Real Existence" 🎶🎸🥁🎸🎶🔥🙂

Hey guys, they are not really metal, even if it is tough to "categorize" their genre, they are more hardrock... But they play punk, funk, jazz, metal, blues, pop, they are all over the place and it´s not from song to song, it´s in ONE song, they don´t really care about the genre. What is special for asian bands is that they are not casted! They are writing their own songs and are really showing off LIVE. This was their first song, so it´s logical it has the most clicks, but trust me you have to watch: Dominiation, Real Existence or Onset LIVE on their channel. Onset f.e. is something special that not a lot of bands do anymore, i don´t wanna spoil it, watch it... Greetings from Germany. Nice reaction

Japan has a really healthy all female band scene, which has been present since the early 80s with some periods of lesser activity. In the West the only bands that jump out to me are the 80s Girlschool, Vixen and Kittie around the end of the 90s.
Band-Maid have a lot of tracks and you probably need up to ten to get a full feel for the styles and influences on the band. You generally can't go wrong starting withe the live versions from their official channel. I think they are pretty good with the copyright stuff as they like seeing the reactions and people doing covers. As with any band though management and record companies might jump in from time to time.
Stepping further into the metal side than Band-Maid generally do you might be interested in Lovebites, Mary's Blood, Nemophila, Aldious, Bridear, Doll$Boxx/Gacharic Spin, Exist Trace and Show-Ya (The Godmothers of Japanese female rock).

The first time I clicked on a BABYMETAL video, I thought, is this going to be like Girlschool. Does the Baby refer to hot sexy babes? How wrong I was!

    • @haileene703
      @haileene703 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Definitely Bridear. Saw those ladies twice live, and while I would not necessarly say that their live performance was amazing musically (nor was it bad btw) their energy and the vibes are great. So I would not recommand watching a poorly recorded live on youtube to discover them But go watch them live whenever you have the opportunity.
Fortunately their studio albums are great (so are their official videoclips).
      Maybe those :
An older one with original guitarists th-cam.com/video/UxSrOqAxaKw/w-d-xo.html
Or the brand new song th-cam.com/video/fiRMlf36ZtE/w-d-xo.html
Unfortunately the 2 original guitarists left the band now (Misa & Mitsuru), as the Drummer Kai. But Japan has so many great musicians, I'm pretty sure they will bounce back for the best.
And yes Japan has a lot of rock - hard rock - metal female only bands, and while they totally know why commercially, I still admit they don't lack skills and they usually deserve a serious interest.

Obligatory "You ain't seen nothin' yet." Especially their live clips. They also have a LOT of range, they can go much harder than this and also do some amazing ballads.

The Warning band is all female (3 Sisters in fact) that are a Mexican band but almost all of their songs are in English and they have a huge following here. They just signed a record deal to record their next 5 cds starting with their 3rd full cd which they just finished with Lava records (Republic records) here in the US. They have become my favorite rock band in years. Did I mention they range in age from 15-21. Here is a link to a good intro song th-cam.com/video/-VUCzqDyOdI/w-d-xo.html

Hi guys. Nice GnR album up there on the wall. Band-Maid is a hard rock band. This video went viral back when it came out, which is why it is by far their most-viewed video. It represents them at a very early stage in their career, when they were playing songs offered by their record label. I like this song, but to say they've improved a lot since then would be selling them short. You say you want to hear them live, as metal guys I'm going to suggest their song "Real Existence (Official Live Video)". This is also an earlier song, but is among their "most metal". Be careful; they have a MV of the song as well but it really comes to life live.
If you want more recent stuff I recommend the MVs for "Warning!" and "Blooming".

Japan has got such a thriving rock and metal scene it's truly a thing of beauty and i'm sure you guys are gonna have a lot of fun exploring it.
You're vids popped up on my reccs page and i like your stuff, i'm a little out of the american metal scene but you guys are reminding how much i used to really love it so thanks~
Also not to be the sad kpop stan but there's a girl group called Dreamcatcher that has a rock sound that is in all of their title tracks and their first 2 mv's Chase Me and Goodnight (that is the order you'd wanna watch em if you like) have a heavy rock influence and pretty dope story line if you want something fun to watch.

This is their oldest clip that's the only reason it's had the most hits. They have better songs. This song was successful just as the girls were considering disbanding. Saiki is a few years younger than the other girls and she's had a voice operation and is now 27yo and her voice is deeper now. Check out the band Nemophila, they really go hard and they are also an all girl Japanese band but heavier

Thanks for reacting to Band Maid! Some great discussion around their tone and the industry.
They have really grown since this MV was shot. For a future reaction, I recommend one of their live shows. Freedom is the song they have said they have the most fun doing and has some great solos. "Warning!" off the most recent album is a very hard driving song and a fun video. If you want a fast song that IS really used in Anime, try "Different" which is the new opening theme from Log Horizon season 3. It is also a very high tempo song. Looking forward to another Band Maid react in the future, I'm enjoying your channel.
Oh, you could also try Play (live) featuring Misa, The Barefoot Assassin on lead bass.

  • @CAPTCHAZ

Band-Maid was founded by Miku Kobato the woman with the red flower in her hair(twin tails) for anime fans. She is called small pigeon, her name Kobato means small pigeon. She used to work in a Japanese Maid Cafe before she started the band. By the way their management company didn't let put any of their own music on their albums until 2016. Their first song was "Alone", written by Kanami Tono the lead guitarist. Kanami writes/composes 95% of their music and Miku Kobato the rhythm guitar player is the lyricist. Akane (gorilla) (drummer) And MISA (barefoot assassin) (Bass) went to the same prestigious music school together in Japan. Saiki was brought in last because Miku Kobato didn't think she had a strong enough voice for lead vocals. I could go on forever about them. As a musician of 56 plus years I find Band-Maid to be some of the most talented musicians on the planet today IMO. I have been following Band-Maid since 2014 and they impress me more and more every song they come out with. Loved your reaction and can't wait to see you react to some of their new live videos. Keep Rocking Dudes 🤘🤘

Welcome aboard, MetMa. You are embarking on (along with many others - 100 million YT views!) an awesome hard-rock journey with 5 incredible women. Here's my intro blurb for those who may be new to Band-Maid:
BAND-MAID’s songs and sound beat with the heart and soul of all rockers. But you’ll also hear heavy influences of Punk, Metal and Pop, with nice touches of Blues, Jazz, Funk and Grunge. Sometimes they use multiple genres within the same song. Their Composition, Execution, Consistency (over a 100 songs with their latest album, “Unseen World”), Uniqueness, Charisma, Charm and, oh yeah, Cuteness factor, position them as becoming the hard rock Beatles of our time! In other words, they’re destine for mega-stardom. Each member's personalities are super interesting and their musicianship among the best. Their writing, arrangements and overall sound, especially guitar tones and drums, are kick-ass! Having seen them LIVE, I can honestly say their performance, sound, stage appearance, and band synergy is off the rails spectacular.
Band-Maid is the only band in decades where I love nearly EVERY song they’ve done. I have over 50 favorites! "Thrill" (2014) is a great place to start: th-cam.com/video/Uds7g3M-4lQ/w-d-xo.html Their later songs from albums Unseen World, Conqueror, World Domination, and Just Bring It drive even more - Manners, Different, Rinne, Blooming, Moratorium, Domination, Clang, Dice, Spirit, Turn Me On, Fate, Play, Hide-And-Seek, Secret My Lips, Puzzle, Glory, Choose Me, I Can’t Live Without You, and on and on. But don’t miss out on their powerful, beautifully written, mid-tempo songs like Daydreaming, About Us, Anemone, Endless Story, PAGE, Mirage and Smile... or more punky like After Life, Don’t Let Me Down and Screaming… or funky like Bubble… or bluesy like Manners and The Dragon Cries… or poppy like Start Over… or a bit jazzy like Wonderland… or cultural like the Band-Maiko series… or instrumentals like Don’t Be Long, Onset, Without Holding Back and Going Nuts! And many are represented with over 35 well produced music videos. th-cam.com/users/BANDMAID
Most performances should be experienced from their LIVE concerts such as Tokyo's LINE CUBE SHIBUYA on February 14th (“Domination” th-cam.com/video/QbyQCJn6rYg/w-d-xo.html), ZEPP 2018, Shinkiba Studio Coast 2017 and some of the better 2019 tour Fan vids. Here’s three of what it’s like to see Band-Maid LIVE at super intimate venues. The first taken by Vladimir Chupin in Hamburg: th-cam.com/video/__1th7ctgMo/w-d-xo.html, the second taken by JT Dayo in LA: th-cam.com/video/4uIYBkAybCI/w-d-xo.html, and third, JOSER8845 in LA: th-cam.com/video/usWZvlGGDSs/w-d-xo.html. If you like Band-Maid, make sure to support them by purchasing some concert tickets, CD, DVD/BD & Merch, etc. bandmaid.tokyo
Like most Band-Maid songs, I like them from the get-go but really start to appreciate them after more hearings and seeing their LIVE videos. I'll go back and see an older song like YOLO, Order, Shake That, Freezer, Before Yesterday, Real Existence, Non Fiction Days and Alone, etc. and realize there's no band that can consistently construct and play like Band-Maid. For fun, check out an awesome, little known "Mega Band-Maid Mix" by DJ Ray of some of their earlier stuff: facebook.com/djrayboston/videos/1004709499579009
Band-Maid members are: (Ages are best est.).
Saiki Atsumi (Sy-i-Key or Psyche) “Ice Queen" - Lead vocals, arrangements, melodies and High Priestess mediator between the Gods (Band Members) and the masters and princesses (Fans). At 27 and the youngest, “Sensei” (Leader) as Miku calls her, has the last word on many musical decisions. High-heels or sneakers, Sai-chan’s smile melts away the persona. Her charisma, performance and voice focus the experience.
Miku Kobato (Me-Ku) "Small Pigeon" - Rhythm guitar, vocals, lyricist, 29 years old. “Koba”, as Saiki calls her, is the Band founder and a firecracker MC & PR SpokesPigeon, po! Her “Magic Spell Time” charm and energy ignite the room. Kurrupo! No, no, no… KURRUPO!!
Kanami Tono (Ka-Naw-Me) “Princess” - Lead guitar, keyboards, 29 years old, is a prolific writer of most Band-Maid material. Kanami (translates “Song Wave”) is a possessed riff-slayer who’s so damn adorable it hurts. The only thing you want from Mincho is more!
Akane Hirose (A-Ka-Nay) "Gorilla" - Drums, 30 years old, band energizer & co-clown with MISA. Achi’s talents include massive consumption of noodles and bananas, of course, (even during performance!) while revolutionizing rock drumming with relentless drive, dynamics and the kick. This “DrumRilla” is the Party!
MISA (Me-Sa) "Assassin" - Bass, 28 years old. A sullen, barefoot, dark spirit driving her 5-string bottom-end to hell and back, off-stage MISA is the band’s goofball ballerina. The Mysterious One literally kills it… every note.. uniting Band-Maid’s world-class rhythm section. A slug of JB, a slight grin, and let the slappin’ begin… MISA! MISA! MISA!
DVD/BD/CD NOW AVAILABLE OF BAND-MAID’S RECENT 2 ½ HOUR ONLINE LIVE OKYU-JI CONCERT. IT IS AWESOME!! 28 SONGS! bandmaid.tokyo/contents/407049

Welcome to your journey down the pigeon hole. I prepared this little guide to help you handle the adventure you are about to embark on.
Once upon a time in Japan....
Miku (Who is a 800+ year old pigeon... long story) was in a short lived "idol" band in Japan and ended up working in a "Maid Cafe". She came up with idea to create a rocking band in maid costumes. A "Gap" as its called in appearance to action.
Miku found singer/songwriter Kaname (Lead Guitar and main Composer), who knew Akane - AKA "The Gorilla - she likes bananas a lot! (drums - Jazz and Classically Trained), who knew Misa - AKA the "Barefoot Assassin" (Bass, Jazz and Classically trained).
[Grab a post-it now and paste to your desk - Miku (B/U and Rhythm,) Kaname (Lead) Akane (Drums) Misa (Bass) Saiki (Vocals)]
    Putting it together...
It became apparent Mikus voice wasn't really suited to the style and so they decided to go find Lead Vocals and brought in Saiki. This basically put Miku out of a job in the band she created, but instead she adapted and Kaname started teaching her guitar. That's right. She couldn't even play in the first video they did 6 years ago. Now she has a 70-80s style aggressive punk style attack on rhythm and Kaname is constantly expanding her guitar parts in challenging ways. All while singing backup.
Personally, I never could sing and play ha-ha
Their first actual song they wrote and recorded was "Alone". They have changed label since and have joined a new one now for the new album going into 2021. Their look, songs, style etc. are their own. Not studio directed.
    Pretty cool these days.
Note: Miku is the main lyricist and writes in heavy metaphors that can be interpreted many ways and often confusing in translation. So, they often add parts that audiences of any language can sing along.

This song is their first song ever and was released in 2014 which is why it has the most views but it doesn't really show a lot of how good they are, it is still a good intro to the band.
And you're right they absolutly geat live,
Check out any of their live stuff on youtube (like Onset, Domination, or any live song) or other songs like Rinne or Blooming.
Their last album (Unseen World) is very good btw if you want to listen to it.

While i absolutely love Band-Maid, and would recommend Rinne, Warning or Black Hole for some of there heavier tracks, there is nowhere on the planet they would be considered Heavy Metal. Lovebites is straight 80s metal and they don't know how to write a bad song. From power to thrash, they can literally do it all. Nemophila is also heavy metal, but their catalog is not as deep. Other band that i would consider mostly metal would be Aldious, Bridear, Mary's Blood and i might even sneak in Fate Gear.
But know this. Once you enter the world of these female Japanese hard rock/metal bands, it's hard to escape 🤘

This video have a lot of views because is old. Is from the time when their record label write the songs for them and Miku just starts to learn how to play a guitar (really). Just shortly after this they compose all their songs and write the lyrics and believe me, they got a lot better. The main guitar Kanami is a composer monster, a true genius. The drummer also is really good not to mention MISA of course. Funny thing is that even Jimmy Page praised them a lot (yes, THIS Jimmy Page). Miku got so good in their work with guitar than now have even their own guitar model from Zeimatis: the "Flappy Pigeon"
    www.zemaitis-guitars.jp/metal_front/signature/a24mf-fp.html
But no, they aren´t really metal. Sometimes in the hard rock side, some songs are really hard and fast like Rinne or Warning but still rock
Btw, this is if i´m not wrong the only time you can see the bass player MISA wearing a maid dress. Nobody tells she anything about the maid dresses before she acept to join the band (also they forget to tell the singer). MISA the bass player is surprisingly shy, but in live performances plays barefoot and drinks whiskey or beer (likes Jim Bean straight from the bottle).
But also as most people say, they are really a lot better in live performances. Not only they don´t miss a beat, but also have a great time playing jokes on the stage between them.

Band-Maid is fantastic! They are more hard rock than metal and have gotten only better as they have evolved over the years. Live they are amazing! Warning, Afterlife and Manners are the newer mv's. The official site has over 30 great choices for you to pick from, and no bad choices with this band! In the beginning the songs were given to them by the label, but they write 99% of their music now. Members, Miku Kobato, founder, backing vocals, rhythm guitar and lyrics. Kanami, lead guitar and song writer and genius. Akane, drummer, and band leader. Misa, the barefoot bass Assassin. Saiki, lead vocals. They range in ages from 27 to 30 now. The best rock band on the planet at the moment! You mentioned the Herman Li audition, and yes it's toenge in cheek, but he plays on his twitch stream with Miku and Kanami to Band-Maid's song Without Holding Back, an instrumental song, and is awesome! Onset is another instrumental song and is excellent! Again, no bad songs from this band! Looking forward to your journey down the Pigeon hole!

After the success of "Thrill" on TH-cam, the girls turned their attention to gory rock.
They gave up trying to sell only in Japan because there was no Japanese in the comments section, only English.
The girls had a lot of ideas and started to break the rules of British and American rock.
Maybe they will become a band that will go down in history. So listen to their recent music as well.
Another band that is in a similar position is "Lovebites". They are also trying to sell in Japan, so they are two bands that I hope the world will see and hear.

This was the video that started me off a year ago when I accidentally found them. So I feel what you are feeling here. In my case I still have this same feeling a year later. It is called the Band-Maid fever. It was a great day when I clicked on Band-Maid after watching BabyMetal who I also accidentally found. I have ALL of Band_maid available now and learning Japanese because of them lol. Brings me back to the days I bought Deep Purple's 8-track in 1972. They later went to Japan and apparently left some DNA for future rock stars not even born yet hehe.

MISA!!!! MISA!!!! MISA!!!!! 🥃🥃🥃 Badass Bass Assassin!!!!!!!!!!!! The best Hard Rock band in the world right now. Yeah Thrill is their 1st video from 2014. The Live versions of Domination, Play, Freedom, Onset, Real Existence would be a better start to your next B-M reaction. Their MV's are very good especially their recent music releases a few months ago but Live is where B-M really shines. You get to see their non-stop energy, talent and how much fun these 5 musicians have with each other on stage. What Hard Rock used to be for me growing up in the 70's. Many of us Band-Maidiacs or Maidiacs have seen B-M in concert and can't wait to see them again. Hopefully these ladies come back to LA in Nov/Dec

Nice reaction guys! BAND-MAID is a really cool solid rock n' roll band. Although their core is more hard rock oriented, they approach to metal, funk, punk, blues and jazz, with a pop flavor into their melodies. The MV you've reacted was their first video back in 2014, since then they've built a very strong musical career and they're getting better and better over time. Check out their latest album "Unseen World", released on january 20th 2021, a very intense fast paced energetic rock album, where the ladies explore some proggressive elements into their music. For me, one of the best releases of this year so far.
And you definitely have to check them out live, they play their instruments awesomely and they bring a lot of energy to the stage, always smiling and having fun, they really enjoy live perfomances.
What I like the most about this band is how varied they are, they can pull out songs with different feelings and musical accents, so I think it's one of those bands that requires a couple of listenings to form a full opinion about them.
Next reaction, let me suggest you the song "Warning!" from the new album:

all female metal bands are sadly quite rare. but one of the more popular bands is actually the world famous iron maiden tribute band "the iron maidens" which consists of highly talented musicians. the best of the best! talking about maids... another all girl band which is based in the punk scene has made its name a while ago and is one of the best punkbands from england called "maid of ace", and not only are they an all girl band, theyre 5 sisters aswell. so definately worth checking out their songs. edit: also in case u react to some more of their songs, keep an eye out on misa the bassist. thrill was the only song youll see her play on a 4string bass. she immediately switched to a 5string and did some incredible basslines. u mentioned this would sound like music from an anime, in fact... they recently contributed the song "different" to an anime series.

  • @mbolden1
    @mbolden1 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Just adding to what others have said. Live is best for Band Maid, they add solos, new intros, new outros. Freedom has a great drum solo. Domination has solos from everyone. Onset is an instrumental. Puzzle may be most emotional, though harder to find. The acoustic version leaves the singer in tears. For MV, Manners has a real funky groove, Rinne is hardest and about 190 BPM though Warning may be faster. There last album had multiple songs in the 190-200 BPM range. Kinami told Herman they will play a song faster than Dragonforce. As for true metal bands Lovebites is about as technical as you will see from anyone anywhere. Try live there too. Things like Scream for Me, We the United or Shadowmaker have very long, very technical guitar solos. Raise Some Hell may be their most fun song. Swan song shows a different side of them, especially if you can get the Chopin prelude. Go to a metal show, get a Chopin concert. Another band is Nemophila. Their guitarists are no slouches either. If you like screams try Oiran or Dissension. Their song Reitai will break your neck during the last 10 seconds and Life is their most emotional. If you want your face completely melted try Asterism’s song Dawn. Believe it or not, the fan shot video for that song is actually amazing (from concert 2019/04/20).

I would imagine that by now you have heard of the power rock trio The Warning out of Mexico, though you may not have checked them out yet. They are three sisters, and the sound and the energy they create are phenomenal. They count among their fans Matt, of Trivium (a band I saw mentioned *somewhere* in your video😁), and Lzzy, of Halestorm, who saw their performance of their song "Dull Knives" from their basement studio during lockdown, as part of a day-long virtual multi-artist concert to benefit small independent venues, and told them she wants to take them on tour with her once live concerts can safely resume.
