The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single BAND-MAID song.
And you started right at the beginning with 'Thrill' their first music video. The whole aesthetic started with Miku, backing vocals and rhythm guitar, while she was working in a maid cafe. She wanted to create a "gap" between what you saw and what you heard. It worked! The outfits have evolved over the years and look quite different now.
OK, now you need to see them live. They are great in the studio, but they are at their best live! Perhaps try 'Domination' or 'Real Existence' live from their channel. Or perhaps you want a more mellow sound? Go with 'Wonderland' or 'About Us'. Bon voyage, Sabina.

BAND-MAID (Formed in 2013)
This is what happens when all the right pieces fall into place.
Miku (PO) comes up with the idea of a hard rock band in maid outfits after working in a maid cafe and looks for a lead guitarist and finds Kanami on TH-cam, and then ask her to join the band and it doesn’t have any other members.
Kanami joins and knows a drummer that she has worked with in the past on session work Akane and she ask her to join the band.
Akane joins and knows a bassist that she was in a band with in school they went to the same music school and did session work together, MISA and ask her to join the band.
MISA joins and the three girls and one small pigeon (Miku) start their journey but Miku doesn’t think her voice is what the band needs. The band holds open auditions and they find Saiki and she is asked to join the band but they don’t tell her they will be dressing as maids.
At this point Miku steps down from vocals and picks up the guitar (The Rickenbacker) never playing a guitar before and takes on rhythm guitar in the band. She starts with an E bar cord and look at her now 8 years later.
If you remove any one of these woman from the band it will not work. They work as a team, Akane helps with the staging, Kanami writes the music, Miku writes the lyrics, MISA and Saiki give their input to help with the impact of the songs. This is a true band they don’t fight they work together for the welfare of the band, no glory hogging everyone get their chance to shine.
If it wasn't for the pandemic BAND-MAID would have gone world wide in 2020.
Welcome to the world of BAND-MAID. These talented ladies has been rocking since 2013 and out to dominate the world. Their music are mostly hard rock but they do have heavier songs that have metal elements as well as ballads if you prefer slower songs. Great choice reacting to this for your first one. This is the song that started it all and has garnered 14M+ views. It's always a "Thrill" to watch this . If you decide to check them out further, I suggest looking at any of their newer songs from this year, such as "Warning!", "Manners", "After Life", or "About Us", which is a ballad tribute to their fans. That was the beginning of the band, right now they are the pinnacle of rockmusic... Can´t think of any band out there today that has this much talent, bravery and sound... LIVE they are a force and on top of that they write the lyrics and songs on their own since the song "Alone" (round about 2016). Don´t wanna get too deep into that now, but the songs they are writing are just mindblowing!
Jazz, Funk, Punk, Pop, Rock, Metal, Blues there are so many influences and i think nobody is able to put it off like they do. Really nice reaction and i wish you a lot of fun by discovering this awesome band even further, they are worth it! Greetings from Germany
You could also try some of their live performances, like "Freedom (Live)", which has a drum solo too, or "Domination", or "Play".
This is very early in the evolution of this band. Try the song "Freedom" live and then the song "Don't you tell me" and you understand just how good this band is now. I enjoyed your reaction and your comments very much.

Thank you for Reaction BAND MAID. BAND MAID is a 5-member girls rock band. They are hard rock band and are now considered by fans to be one of the best hard rock bands in the world. They usually perform 23 songs and 2 hours live. They were formed in Japan in 2013 by side guitarist Miku Kobato. Kobato had experience working at a maid cafe in Akihabara Tokyo and had the idea of playing cool songs with a maid costume. That's why the band was named Band-Maid. "Thrill" was their first music video in 2014, played 2 million times in two weeks and saved them from breaking up. At that time they were just around 19-22 years old. And then they have been doing LIVE overseas and increasing their fans. Now they are writing, composing and arranging all the songs. 35 songs have been released on their official TH-cam, all of which are killer songs.

Like most Band-Maid songs, I like them from the get-go but really start to appreciate them after more hearings and seeing their LIVE videos. I'll go back and see an older song like YOLO, Order, Shake That, Freezer, Before Yesterday, Real Existence, Non Fiction Days and Alone, etc. and realize there's no band that can consistently construct and play like Band-Maid. Hello and thanks for the great reaction to Band-Maid! "Thrill" is from early in their career, before they were writing their own music. This video went viral 6 or 7 years ago, which is partly why it is their most-viewed. Since that time they have evolved into one of the best rock bands in the world and in my opinion the best writers of hard-rock music in decades.
I very much recommend checking out one of their own compositions to see what they are capable of. To see them go nuts, check out "Different" or "Warning!". They also have ballads: for example "Daydreaming", which is a power ballad; or perhaps you'd like "About Us" which is slower-paced. For live videos, I recommend "Domination" or "Real Existence" but be careful; they have music videos of these two songs as well, but the live versions are much better.
I hope you take another look at them to see how much they grew as artists in only a few years.
Tiny Hat knows where it's at. The last few days I can't stop listening to Daydreaming so I'll just chuck in another recommendation for that one if you haven't already covered it. I find my preferred Band Maid song varies form week to week. But there's always a preferred Band Maid song at the top of my playlist.

With Thrill the Band Maid legend was born and continues to evolve with each passing year. I believe Saiki was barely 20 when this was filmed. Glad you found these talented young ladies, the Band Maid experience is filled with quality offerings!

This was their first music video from 2014, and they are all in their early twenties in this video. They have gotten even better since then. Maybe try a song from their newest album, Unseen World, like their song Warning, After Life, or Manners, but at their best in their live performance, songs like Domination or Freedom would be a good starting point.

Band-maid is special.
Each member has different musical preferences and influences, but instead of favoring one style, they work super hard as a team to put those different elements together seamlessly.
They were younger in this video, it came out in 2014, which means the lead singer Saiki must have been 20, the oldest member Akane, the drummer must've been 23 or 24. They've come a loooong way since then.
Their top priority is to create great music, there's no ego getting in the way to achieve that.
You could say they are a rock-core band with poppy, catchy vocal melody by default (they have a few instrumentals on their catalogue), but there's not much point in trying to categorize them. Let's just say their genre is 'band-maid'.
Their song can be soft, hard, slow or blazing fast, light or heavy, but always have the unmistakable song structure and groove. Cool riffs, cool transitions, change-ups, cool bridge, whatever interesting elements they throw in make their songs very unique and exciting.
From 2015 onwards, most (if not all) of their songs have been written and arranged by themselves.
The lead guitarist, Kanami is the main songwriter, the rhythm guitarist/secondary vocalist Miku is the primary lyricist, however, everyone's involved in creating the songs, drummer and bassist write their own part or at least do the arrangement.
Everyone in the band is a hero. They are dead serious about music, their music. They rehearse at least 3 times a week for 4-5 hours, sometimes more.
If you react to their recent stuff you'll clearly hear how far they've come in these last 7 years. The singer's voice has become deeper and richer with wider range and the band's music has become more complex and diverse...
Thrill is written for them but is significant because it was the song where band-maid found their core 'sound'. Even though this song is rather simple and less technical it's super catchy and sounds great.

They look so young! 😋 They've evolved massively in terms of music and performance. This was the first time many of us saw them. Misa (Bass) is a beast! Miku (Rhythm guitar) used to work in a cafe where the staff had to dress up like this. She wanted to poke fun at it, so she formed the band with this idea in mind. They have just released an album that contains some of the heaviest tunes they've ever done.

Welcome to the International Fellowship of Maidiacs. Petite? Well, Miku is 5' and Kanami is 5'1", but Akane is 5'6" and MISA is 5'7-1/2" (In those 3" heels, MISA is right around 5'10".). Saiki is still taller than average for a Japanese woman at 5'4". Oh, and as they say in the UK, Mind the Gap. BTW, it is usually referred to as "decoration English" when they throw in English lyrics. TRIVIA: Miku and her mother designed and sewed their original maid costumes. Oh, did I mention the fact that they are the best live band of the last 20 years or so?

The live official video of "Wonderland" is generally seen as a good showcase for Saiki's vocals, although she's also superb in the recent song "Manners." Miku's harmonies and additional vocals are always excellent and there are a few songs she sings lead on, though they don't have official videos.
Today's best hard rock band, in my opinion :). Love them!
This video got my attention last year...and then their 'Domination' Official Live video stunned me. A talented live band with great musicianship, a great development in their song-writing and a big heart for their art...and their audience. One might say you've just seen them at their worst...which says it all :-)

Just the start of this fantastic band! They just get better and better from here. They have a huge range of rock styles but always rock. Their outfits eventually get more conservative but still look cute. I highly recommend their live videos.
This song is from way back, i think 2014 when they were just starting out. I def suggest checking out one of their newer songs to see where they are at now. Afterlife is a good one.
It will be a very fun journey to start with "thrill" which is their actual starting line. If you watch them in chronological order, you can experience their growth, change, and progress. As everyone says, "Alone" in 2016 is an important turning point. Don't miss it :)

A great band, so many awesome catchy songs. The ladies age range from 26-30 with Saiki the lead singer is youngest, Miku the other singer is 28 ( she started the band and came up with the maid idea ), Misa bass player awesomeness is 29, Kanami lead guitar ( great guitarist and writes most of their music ) 29, and Acani drums is 30 and is incredible and unique. My recommendations for songs to start with would be Dice or Blooming. Also they are incredible live performers so you might try Don’t you tell me, Domination, and Freedom are great live songs. So many others I could include.
The reactions were so great that it took me 40 minutes to see them all...

Five young-ish women who are extremely talented.
Their genre is mostly "power metal", and it's clean. Really clean.
They don't scream, just sing, and their lead vocalist (Asami) has a perfect voice for the music she's singing.
Their lyrics are all written and sung in English, though her Japanese accent makes it tricky to hear what she's saying much of the time.
That's fine though, because music is universal, right? :)

BAND MAID calls it THE GAP! there's a gap between how someone appears and what they do, it draws attention. Some people find it attractive. Miku has said that was what she was going for.

This a band you have to see live. Pick any live song and see their real talent.
"Thrill" was the video that saved Band-Maid. Their management, who specialized in creating all-girl idol groups that could be easily packaged for TV, had already decided to dissolve the band and put the two vocalists into an idol group. However, they had already scheduled this video shoot and had picked out the song they wanted for the video. The band didn't know they were about to be cancelled, hated the management picked song and instead they selected "Thrill" for the video because all five of them liked the song, feeling that it best represented what they believed Band-Maid should be. This is just one of many good decisions they've made in the last ten years. The "Thrill" video quickly went viral in Mexico and North America and news of this made it back to Japan, generating much needed publicity and and keeping their contracts alive.
Since then Band-Maid has gained creative control over their output. They now write nearly all of the songs, arrange the music, and produce their albums. This is an incredible band, with an incredible story, whose incredibly hard work has produced a huge catalog of amazing music. Just pick any of their songs, it may not be entirely to your taste, but you will have to admit all their music is well written, arranged flawlessly, and performed skillfully. Your favorite Band-Maid song will be the one you just listened to.
I grew up in the 50s, 60s, and 70s. I listened to some of the best music ever. Without a doubt, Band Maid is the best group I've heard in the 2000s. If you would like something a little softer from them check out, "Daydreaming", Endless Story" and "Awkward" - live. A little more hard rock I would recommend "Blooming", "Warning!", "Dice" or "Choose Me." None of their songs, music videos or live, will disappoint.
I love Band-Maid I always mix up their names , but the girl with the pigtails worked in a Maid Café in Japan. These are cafes that the waitresses dress like Maids and wait on customers like maids. This is were the Maid idea came from.
Imagine, this video is from 2014. And they were about to call it quits. But, this video blew up on a Facebook Japanese music channel page. The video got (literally) 100,000 view over night.
And they decided to keep going. They are amazing live.

Oh Sabina..you have just struck the motherlode..the gold motherlode. These women are the real deal. This was 7 years ago. This was the clip that broke the band to the market. Still so many font know about them. The Maids are 20 (Saiki the lead vocalist),Miku 22 (rythmn guitar and vocals),Kanami 22(lead guitar),Misa 22 (bass) and Akane on drums who was 23. Now 27 to 30.
Kanami is the genius. Composes amazing songs. Akane and Misa studied together at a music academy.
Miku founded the band and thought of the concept after working in a maid cafe in Tokyo.
Many reasons why they are so popular but the diversity and creativity and very likeable personalities wins most fans.
Kanami has composed their music since 2017.

Yes always play in the maid costumes though they have changed through the years. Saiki and Misa wear black dresses and Miku,Kanami and Akane have variations of maid costumes.

Great job with the reaction, text on screen, etc. And this is my favorite band right now, bringing back REAL hard rock! So a couple of things - you nailed it with the comment that it just makes you want to have fun - there has never been a more "grin-inducing" band - like, ever. Number two, as many people have already told you by now since we fans are pretty nuts (they call us "maidiacs") - you haven't seen anything yet. This is a great song and many of us began with this video, but their skills have escalated to awesome proportions now. Lastly - they are usually best "live" and they write and arrange with the idea of the live show. You're not going to believe it. I'll leave the song recommendations to others, because they are all correct!

Welcome to best rock band on planet earth. Like so many have said before me, this is really good but they are so much better now! As a singer I would suggest "About Us" or "Wonderland" as they really show off Saiki's beautiful vocal range, but honestly you can pick anything off their official channel, not a bad one in the bunch I promise ya. I hadn't purchased anything music related in decades before I discovered these amazing young ladies. Now I have 3 CDs I play everywhere I go, 5 T-shirts and 3 online concerts attended. Maidiac for Life!

Thrill, for lack of a better description, is a "gateway drug" to loving Band-Maid. It's what hooked me and after 4 years I am a complete Madiac. They have matured into what many fans call the best rock band on the planet today.
We need more BAND-MAID! This was one of their early songs that they didn't even write. You need to seem them live playing some of their own material.

I hope that you will get around to The Warning soon. Different aesthetic by about180°. Three young ladies, all sisters, who are also Bad ass musicians, but more into Scorpions T-shirts than elaborate costumes.
The Warning. They did Two TED Talks at University of Nevada and are releasing their third album (first Major Label) soon.
Outstanding and perceptive first review on this band. They are DEEP and once you go down the "pigeon" hole... its a very exciting journey. The band is all about contradictions and mixing up art and technical styles.
I prepared this little guide to help you handle the adventure you are about to embark on.
Once upon a time in Japan....
Miku (Who is a 800+ year old pigeon... long story) was in a short lived "idol" band in Japan and ended up working in a "Maid Cafe". She came up with idea to create a rocking band in maid costumes. A "Gap" as its called in appearance to action.
Miku found singer/songwriter Kaname (Lead Guitar and main Composer), who knew Akane - AKA "The Gorilla - she likes bananas a lot! (drums - Jazz and Classically Trained), who knew Misa - AKA the "Barefoot Assassin" (Bass, Jazz and Classically trained).

Putting it together...
It became apparent Mikus voice wasn't really suited to the style and so they decided to go find Lead Vocals and brought in Saiki. This basically put Miku out of a job in the band she created, but instead she adapted and Kaname started teaching her guitar. That's right. She couldn't even play in the first video they did 6 years ago. Now she has a 70-80s style aggressive punk style attack on rhythm and Kaname is constantly expanding her guitar parts in challenging ways. All while singing backup.
Personally, I never could sing and play ha-ha
Their first actual song they wrote and recorded was "Alone". They have changed label since and have joined a new one now for the new album going into 2021. Their look, songs, style etc. are their own. Not studio directed.
Pretty cool these days.
Note: Miku is the main lyricist and writes in heavy metaphors that can be interpreted many ways and often confusing in translation. So, they often add parts that audiences of any language can sing along.
They are in the mid 20s in age. Their musical style is Hard Rock with some touches of Metal here and there.
Definitely watch some of their live performances, as mentioned by others (Domination, Freedom, onset, etc.) . They have so much fun and rock so hard, you'll love it. Extreme technical skill with all four of these women.
MISA MISA MISA!! you should check out their live performances. Thrill is one of their songs that brought them to the world stage. From then on they kept on growing stronger and there is no Band-Maid song that I do not like. No matter how many time I listen to them.
The next earlier song after Thrill, would be Real Existence (Official Live Video), they made little detailed changes during their live performance, but overall they kept the original as it was back then. This is song was not written by Band-Maid, they started writing their own songs after the song Alone. To be honest, from that moment, it feels like they kept on speeding with their talents. It feels like there is no end, each time they come again and again with something new to look forward to.

This is easily one of the best Metal bands ever
8:52 “I feel like they really had this vulnerable feminine character, just doing what they wanted” You hit the nail on the head.
Their Maid image is partly, to create an identity that stands out esp. as a Rock band and at the same to make a statement that they can rock out, regardless of their appearance, who they are or where they’re from. And they make that attitude very obvious in their music, videos and promos.
This is the reason they’ve managed to be taken seriously by Rock/Metal fans & pros, despite their misleading look and have earned themselves a strong following that is growing by the day.
According to them, those outfits are like their “Battle armour” so everytime they put them on they’re reminded that it’s time to get serious. It also seems to help bolster their confidence onstage.
The way I see it, they probably treat it the same way someone in the military treats their uniform.
Another interesting thing you’ll notice once you start exploring their stuff is how spotlighted their musicianship is, often more than themselves.
You’d rarely see them without their instruments and in many videos the camera often cuts them off just to focus on their playing.
This probably was something they had to do esp. around their early years to prove that they’re infact real musicians.
But over time it’s almost become a part of their identity itself. I frequently forget that I’m actually watching a group of pretty women rocking out 😅 coz they make it that easy to overlook everything.
Plus with how fast-paced and intricate most of their music is, you’re often too busy figuring out what’s going on to be distracted by anything else.
Having said all of that, I’m not really against artists utilising their appearance to better market their music. It’s afterall a valid resource and has always been an integral aspect of the entertainment industry.
But it’s still refreshing to see artists like them who’re doing it differently, foregoing the clearly more advantageous choice.
Moreso as female artists who unfortunately have to deal with the brunt of that choice, both as a blessing and a curse.
Great job. This is the best hard rock band in the world today, seriously. Check wichever live version video you want. Live is where the really make the difference. Thank you.

Three plus years retired the sold rocker metal head was just tired with the music he was hearing on the radio and my daughter showed me a BABYMETAL video. My eyes were opened.
