    Thanks for sharing. "I bought this rivet gun, well, because it was cheap" That was my favorite part of the video, lol. I thought the rivet gun was slipping on the stems until I realized your rivets were super, extra long. I found some much shorter and they worked great.

    Thanks so much to the both of you. I would not have attempted renewing my electric awning without watching your video a number of times. There are lots of manual awning videos, but not as many coving Dometic electric ones. Couple of points might help anyone else attempting to do the job themselves - my one had screws both ends, so might be worth checking before bursting a gut trying to pull the old one through. Also the gutter end spout was held in by a ton of caulking, but also TWO hidden screws, so it was a lot of fun getting the old one out!

    This was the video that I needed to watch. I may have another season left in my awning. I just wasn't sure about the spring situation, and you showed exactly what I needed to know, so it won't unwind on me. I have plenty of zip ties that I will keep on hand, just in case the awning fabric comes apart while we are out on a trip. I'll probably just secure the arms and cut the fabric away and discard. I actually think I can do this job with the help of my son. Thanks for sharing!

    I've heard that you can use spray silicon in the tracks (at the top, and on the torque tube) to help the awning glide into the channels better.

    • @missionrvservices

      Yes you can. It helps.

    • @tirmite

      You can also use a WATER SOLUBLE lubricant. Some people use dish detergent, but then it's going to foam up every time it rains or gets wet some other way. I recommend LUBE. Yeah, THAT kind of lube. 🍆 Over time it'll wash away without leaving any residue or attract dirt like silicon will.

  • @tirmite

    So since the old awning is trashed, why not just cut all the way down the length of the vinyl at the top( with utility knife or scissors)? Then slide that strip of material out of the retaining grove. That way the old awning is now separated and easier to lift off the arms. You wouldn't even need to unroll it until you got the tube onto the ground. Seems like a faster, more efficient way to get the old one off.

    • @jasonreckner7323

      Unrolling it, while it is still attached, is absolutely more faster and efficient than trying to unroll the awning on the ground.

    Thanks for the video! Lots of great details! One question, it seems you only had about one foot of fabric unwound when you pinned the torsion spring and then when you unpinned the new fabric, you had about three feet of fabric unwound. Wouldn’t this cause the spring to have less tension and the motor to have to work harder to wind the awning in?

    • @missionrvservices

      No. The tension is the same. The awning arm shocks take up the excess tension. It’s a very low tension spring, on this, to begin with.

  • @wallheadkdir

    Good tricks with protecting the awning from sharp edges. Could you also spray a wd-40 or something into the channel when installing the awning? Or would it deteriorate it faster?

    • @missionrvservices

      We wouldn't use WD40, as it would attract a lot of dirt, but we use a dry silicone spray, one with PTFE (Teflon) and that helps.

    what if an individual did not mark the motor properly before taking the motor out of the tube and the torsion spring unwound on the other end? 8-9 turns clockwise. Make sure that the bracket lines up with the opposing bracket. Make sure you pin it after winding the spring. Having a second person helps.

      I don't think I had the spring end off. If I did I thought the ends were different. The motor only would go on one end. Maybe I am wrong. Dometic does not know anything they sent me installation instructions and said that was all they had.. If the spring was wound wrong could that cause it?
