I appreciate your candor with this video. When we die none our family’s will want to be burdened with this shit. I moved on from collecting mass produced plastic.
I used to buy Dvds and Blu Ray every week. Had 8 - 9 large bins that became a burden that I rarely opened and had to choose between space for living or a stack of movies that never got watched a 2nd time. I have since put all the discs into dvd binders and have only one bin of my best dvds and another for my best Blu Rays that are rare or signed etc. Now I only buy digital and will rarely pick up Blu Rays unless I know I intend to watch it often. Good video Sir 👍👍
Yeah I try to sell my unwanted films to make way for other films I end up buying, that way my collection never gets too overloaded. But tbh I should consider selling a bit more.
people are doing these bad in the gaming/retro gaming community, just buy all this S$#@ chasing the high basically, its a drug to them. Alot of us are saying have control, literally JUST SAY NO..buy it later when its cheaper if its a new game, i mean how many games can you have and your paying full price for a new game to sit on the shelf? Games always coming down in price especially if its not a AAA title(hold their value a little longer)
I think prices are going up because most people dont want physical stuff. Most of my friends never even bought a bluray player. Streaming is good enough. So its pretty hardcore collectors kind of laserdisc.back in the day. Also companies have to pay to license the films and then restore them, shoot special features, pay for box art and disc duplication. My advice is be selective and watching less youtube content has helped me reduce purchases also lack of space and having kids.
I've seen you get a lot of enjoyment from collecting...it is what it is ..don't be so hard on yourself ...get rid of what you don't won't and buy what you want...life is short
I wanted Trick or Treat and I couldn't wait for it and I thought it would be closer to $40 and for me that is a lot but I really wanted it then I saw $70!! I was out! I don't need 4k upgrades! Unless you have a 70 inch TV or bigger loaded with surround sound then OK but I'm good with my 42 inch and blu-ray movies.
I been watching dvd update for what seems like forever. Once I had a kid I stopped all together and when we moved across country I sold off my collection of like 5000 discs bc I didn’t wanna move em 😂 I haven’t bought anything physically for atleast 8 years but went to good will earlier this year and found a brand new vcr/dvd combo along with the old tmnt cartoon and goosebump tapes from when I was a kid. Now 9 months later I have about 150 titles between vhs, dvd, blu ray and 4k. I only shop sales from the boutique titles and get titles I know I loved and miss owning. I also only use funds I get from buy/selling with things i find at goodwill/yard sales etc. I will say the fomo in this community is real from these studios. I see people buying up these releases bc they don’t wanna miss out. My take may be frowned upon but in 2024 we have any movie we could possibly want at our fingertips if I need to see it. Did I want The Keep or the trick or treat release hell yeah but not at the price tags they asked for unfortunately. Sadly tho many don’t have that self control and will just keep buying and buying
Yes you DO need the steelbook AND the lenticular cover of the same movie. Instead of wasting your time making this video go out to target and keep collecting those movies!!!
You can't have EVERYTHING so just buying the stuff that you really love is ok.
there's a lot of freedom and life quality in learning to say NO
I use to be like this with video games, I woke up one day and was surrounded by clutter. I sold a lot and kept what i love.
It’s not just physical media it’s any type of collectibles
For me, downsizing the collection I had just three years ago was tough for me emotionally.
That's why I think you've done well sticking with what companies are giving you and focusing on autographed movie items.
I can’t give up CDs.
same
letting go really does help man

better buy bluray- and 4k-players now - as LG is the next big company who kicks off their player-production 😞

HUNDREDS OF BEAVERS was acclaimed. Everyone I know that saw it loved it. You should watch it, you'll laugh a lot.
and it gets to the point where you have it and its taking up space and you never even watch it.

The 100s of beavers joke was gold lol

I'm A Collector Too And It Is Addictive But There's Has Been Times Where I Had Cut Back On Things
The other thing about collecting as you get older is it raises the question, how long will you have it for?
I only buy if i 100% know that i watch it everytime.

I was like that with hot wheels, then one day I felt the more mature thing to do would be to get rid of them

You get new shit every week. You'll be fine letting it all go
I was ready to retire from collecting with Gleaming The Cube. But they won’t release it. 😢
FOMO, limited editions and since normal people aint buying media they will only go up.
Nice you finally realised buying crap to fill void dont work its good you finally hit your anti consumption stage.
Sounds a lot like soul growth.
Less is more 👍
