  • Alfa Romeo North American vehicles are prone to battery post corrosion which leads to all types of issues and check engine lights. Almost all of them are false flags, simply the result of weak battery post continuity and surface corrosion at the contact points. If you are a Alfa Romeo owner 2017 to present you need to keep your battery post clean and protect them with non-corrosive gel. The code reader is not required, this process takes 10 minutes and will give you reliable service that you expect. This example is from a brand new 2021 Giulia that already has surface corrosion from its journey across the ocean. Only simple tools are required, a Phillips screwdriver a 10 mm combination wrench, battery post wire brush and some non-corrosive gel. Always remember to remove the negative ground first and replace the negative ground last after the cleaning. Start the car do a full left block turn and then a full rate lock turn turn it off and then back on, all the codes should clear by themselves. Please see my TH-cam channel Fiat Of Greenville for a follow up video showing how the codes clear after you reconnect the battery. It’s so easy even a Porsche guy can do it!

Thanks so much John. This along with the longer one on the Stelvio enabled me to do the whole process at home in my garage no issues.

The first thing I would do is make sure that the post that you have are clean and then I would use the threaded nut and bolt mounts directly to the post with a round ring terminal for your trickle charger connection. There should be enough thread on the post stud to allow you to mount a ring terminal so you would have to buy two extra hex nuts.

John, i have a 2018 2.0T stelvio with 62000km on the clock. Most of the time it need 3 seconds cranking before it will start up. I did some investigation and i see that the fuel rail pressure drops overnight (sometimes in 15 minutes) to 200Kpa (2bar) and the car need 3 seconds before the pressure is build up to minimum 5000Kpa. Do you ever had the same problem in the shop? What can cause tis problem? If i put the dash on for 3 times the pressure build up to 500Kpa and than it takes only 1 second to start up.

I have a 2017 giulia with an interstate battery the dealer put in about 2 years ago . All my dash lights are on and now I have no power steering so I can’t drive the car . I took the negative cable off and restarted many of times w no luck.
Do you have any tricks other than the tow truck and pay the dealer which I have no warranty. 17321 miles. Like new.

Anyone knows which one is the start/stop relay on a stelvio ? I located the fuse box under the hood on the passenger side.
But I couldn’t find The diagram to show which relay is for which function!

Would this cause the electronic throttle warning? I am getting that all the time and nobody can fix it.

Yes usually on mine it’s electronic throttle warning along with stop/start not available then followed by a check engine.
Battery is 3 months old .
I’ve been told to change the start stop relay
But I am not sure which one it is inside the fuse box under the hood!

I use Boeshield on my outboard motor to reduce corrosion and protect connections. Do you think is would work on the Alfas?

Hi thanks for asking, I have never used that product but perhaps it is a good choice. The key is to remove all the corrosion forming and then put a good protective dielectric gel down to prevent issues

Varta batteries are junk, the Mopar batteries are way better.
