1. Throw your arms around me Hunters and Collectors 2. Touch of Paradise ( Hey Hey it’s Saturday live version) John Farnham 3. One Country Midnight Oil 4. Took the children away Archie Roach 5. Careless Paul Kelly

Wow, great choice. Didn't expect this as the last song of Aussie week, but a brilliant artist. I think you should do an Aussie song at least once a week, there is so much great music you will love
I love Careless by Mr Kelly, beautiful songwriting. He is such a wordsmith, his very first purchase with his own coin (according to him in interview) is the complete works of Shakespeare. Current music, check out the Teskey Brothers.
Paul Kelly has a fantastic back catalogue that is well worth dipping into. Songs like 'Dumb Things', 'To Her Door', 'Darling it Hurts', 'Leaps & Bounds'. The list goes on. Oh and one has now become such a cultural icon that it has a day named after it - the 21st of December is now known here in Oz as 'How to Make Gravy' Day.
5 Aussie classics: 1. Powderfinger (ANY!)- Waiting for the Sun 2. Screaming Jets- Better 3. Battle scars- Guy Sebastian (My daughter's fave) 4. Empire of the sun- Walking on a dream 5. Throw your arms around me- Hunters and collectors
Paul Kelly is great. The back-up singer was Linda Bull, she is part of a sister duo with Vika and funnily enough the band is called Vika and Linda. They were both back-up singers in the band "The Black Sorrows" which are a fantastic band.
Oh, Oh. Please. To Her Door. I have already searched your content item by item looking for it and its missing. Paul kelly to her door! Awesome song and a real Aussie anthem.
5 tracks. The loved one by The Loved ones. Axiom, Little ray of sunshine. Russell Morris, the real thing. The Easybeats, Friday on my mind and lastly Doug Parkinson, Dear Prudence. Now all these bands and tracks are either from the 60's or early 70's but they were the foundation of Australian rock.
Amazing how every culture has their troubadour. listening to this week it is amazing how different the music is you can see how it is the same with just enough individuality to make it different. It's been amazing! looking forward to see how the other countries follow suite.
Paul Kelly has been releasing absolute killer albums & singles since the 70s. One of Australia's hidden gems that should be worshipped worldwide! 💯🔥🇦🇺 Edit: the best band right now, that happens to be Aussie is 'King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard'. They've been around for about a decade, and have already released 20 studio albums! You won't be disappointed.🔥🇦🇺
Five tracks? Hard. Cattle and Cain - Go Betweens. Wide Open Road - The Triffids. Wild Roses - Nick Cave. Loved One - The Loved ones. Flame Trees - Cold Chisel. A million more.
Divinyls - Else... uncensored one Hunters and Collectors - Say Goodbye Hoodoo Gurus - Lalanie The Loved Ones.. The Loved One John J Francis.. "Simple Ben" from the "The Morning of the Earth"
Love your reactions, love Paul Kelly and Cold Chisel, but I'm gonna say the Go-Betweens are one of Australia's greatest songwriting bands and know you would love them.
I love this Aussie Week you are doing. I worked as a roadie/lighting guy/bouncer in the 80's-90's and actually setup for both Paul Kelly and Jimmy Barnes a couple of times. I also have seen all your Aussie week ones live except Daddy Cool but I think Mum saw them.
Thank you, I enjoyed watching Aussie week. There are so many great songs there could easily be an Aussie month. Here are five more songs. AC/DC - It’s A Long Way To The Top (If You Wanna Rock ‘N’ Roll) (1975) John Farnham - Help! (1980) Divinyls - Boys In Town (1981) The Church - Under The Milky Way (1988) Yothu Yindi - Treaty (1991) For a current Aussie artist my pick is Didirri for his soulful indie folk-rock.
Paul Kelly is wonderful! Personal faves are Dumb Things and Firewood & Candles . Loving your reactions and conversations after the songs have been listened to - keep it up!!
if you want another amazing Oz singer/songwriter from about a decade before Paul Kelly - and still touring - take a look ar Richard Clapton .....try "Deep Water" (close title to this track lol) or "Best Years of Our Lives", "Capricorn Dancer" "Goodbye Tiger", "Down in the Lucky Country" or his most well known track "Girls on the Avenue".... an Aussie icon
Five tracks Marseilles - The Angels live Flame Trees - Cold Chisel Tip of My Tongue - Diesel To Her Door - Paul Kelly Dead Heart - Midnight Oil One Word - Baby Animals More than n five I know. I could give you heaps more.
Yes BPM, best band since the Beatles! I feel sorry for non-Australians who don’t know about them 😭 ‘It’s nice to be alive’ or ‘surrender’ or ‘IFLY’ or ‘fence sitter’ from their back catalogue or ‘cherub’ or ‘stars in my eyes’ more recently ❤️❤️❤️
Seeing Paul Kelly in concert in a couple of weeks. Can't wait for Mundi Mundi Bash. 3 days of Aussie music. worth driving for 2 days, staying in the outback with no water and power....... Bliss So many Aussie bands for you to explore
Finally going through this in order as I figured out how to find that. I am sooo TH-cam smart. This guy is amazing and alongside Cold Chisel the 2 bands I need a deeper dive on.
Songs for a follow up Australian week would be for me: The Easybeats - Friday on my Mind The Saints - Know Your Product Powderfinger- The Metre Silver Chair - Straight Lines The Drones - Shark Fin Blues
I heard Paul Kelly’s “Darlin it Hurts” today. A great example of Paul Kelly rocking. Otherwise, “From Little Things Big Things Grow” is a great story song.
Great reactions guys to our Aussie music. As requested, my top 5 are: -Evie Pts1,2,&3 ( must do all 3 as they tell a story)- Stevie Wright -Man Overboard-Do Re Mi (Deborah Conway) -Boy & Bear-Southern Son -Divinyls-Boys In Town -Russell Morris-The Real Thing
@@TheThamesmen This is only the 2nd reaction channel I've subscribed to. The last one had about 12k subscribers when I joined. They're at 150k now. And yes, I like Aussie music, but there's this one band, from some make-believe country called New Zealand... Split Enz... Search "Six months in a leaky boat live 06".... I'm not kidding here when saying that this band (bloody Kiwis) may actually be the only band on the planet who were better than The Beatles... Yeah, I said it (and it hurt me to say it).
@@TheThamesmen Thanks. But don't go too far down the Split Enz rabbit hole. You may end up at the 1996 Crowded House concert on the steps on the Sydney Opera house (I was in the crowd). A 15 hour concert that finished at 1am the next day, and, as it was free, no one ever counted the crowd size. Counting started at 120,000....
5 quintessential Australian rock tracks that you may not know: 1. Gangajang - sounds of then 2. Yothu Yindi - Treaty 3. Powderfinger - My kind of scene. 4. Australian Crawl - Boys Light Up 5. Icehouse - We can get together. Such a deep vain to choose from. Not the best but notable. Thanks for the great and knowledgeable critiques.
No Australian compilation would be complete without Stevie Wright - Evie. Check him out live at the Sydney Opera House around 1980. th-cam.com/video/lPveBD6WWXc/w-d-xo.html
Paul is a legend. Linda Bull backing, no Vika on that performance. He has a tonne of songs and he writes a lot for others. He has done an album with Neil Finn where they performed each others songs and on some dueted. Another album of all Paul Kelly songs were covered by women 'Women at the well'.
i'm late to this show and love it - love watching you two and how you seem to like Aussie Music - You brought me the Saints which i have just gone mad with. Paul Kelly - how to make gravy, from St Kilda to Kings Cross, Meet me in the middle of the Air, Leaps and bounds and Dumb things
Only recently found your channel, and I'm still exploring. Not sure if you have done any Crowded House yet, but Paul Kelly did a concert with Neil Finn from Crowded House, taking turns singing their greatest hits!! I would highly recommend checking out this concert, it was absolutely phenomenal. Might be too long to do a complete reaction video to, but just sit and watch it without reacting, just treat yourself!! Only found you a few days back, but love your vids so far, keep 'em coming!! 😀
Fav Australian song ever: Mark Seymour: Last ditch cabaret. Notable mention of nearer times: Tame Impala: Let it happen. Other mentions: Chalice: The Calm that was the storm (Closest you'll get to Nightwish or Epica from here) and finally: Spiderbait: Buy me a pony
Paul Kelly is a certified National Treasure and just gets better with age! There are songs by him which have embedded themselves in the Australian consciousness - To Her Door, How to Make Gravy, and especially From Little Things Big Things Grow (co-written with Kev Carmody, about a history making fight for Aboriginal land rights - an absolute must).
He's a prolific writer across the full spectrum of music - from folk, country, bluegrass, blues, rock, film soundtracks et al - turning suburban scenes into glorious anthems. By the way, Alex. it's an ES 335, not a 355. The 355 and 345 have the tone selector switch ( as on BB's Lucille) below the bridge pickup.
How to Make Gravy is peak Paul Kelly. You will see the story telling parallels with Dylan for sure. About a bloke in prison missing the family Christmas dinner and you feel all of it. And yes, it definitely counts as a Christmas song!
So sad Aussie week is over ....Paul Kelly is the best story teller singer. Some very deep lyrics when you delve into them. My favs are Her Door or Dumb things. My recommendations for other great Aussie Artists. 1. John Farnham and Jimmy Barnes. Something is Wrong with my baby? This is a double whammy you will get 2 Aussie Legends in one.... pick a live version to get the best experience... the one from Hey hey is saturday is great. 2. Something a bit country Lee Kernaghan- Boys from the Bush or anything from Wolf Brothers 3. Guy Sebastian, Battle Scars live from home studio. 4. Matt Corby. Brother 5. Tina Arena I'm in Chains Anything fromTesky Bros. Id like to put John Farnham and Jimmy Barnes on the list twice ....but once you hear them togther you'll want to make new list just for their stuff. I have subscribed in anticipation lol
Thanks for the support. Hopefully you saw a reaction to the John Farnham and Jimmy Barnes track. We are working on a second Aussie week soon. Stick around!
1. How to Make Gravy - Paul Kelly. 2 Under The Milky Way - The Church. 3 Good Time - The Easy Beats 4. Berlin Chair - You Am I 5. A Thousand Miles Away - Hoodoo Gurus
Some of this band was from the TV show Rockwiz, now defunct. The show was a rock quiz show with guest artists who were given songs outside of their normal repetoire to perform. Most of these shows are on YT. Check out Tim Rogers and Vika Bull singing Gimme Shelter, the Rockwiz Band with The Weight, Colleen Hewitt Superstar, Connie Mitchell What A Feeling.
When talking about the Australian Music Industry - Johnny O'Keefe the original "Wild One" [1958] covered by Iggy Pop 1986 - got his break from Bill Haley / Lee Gordon, Then the EasyBeats [1966] Friday on my Mind covered by Garry Moore 1987 - Harry Varda & George Young then became commercially successful and writers and producers of many successful Australian rock acts, including John Paul Young (no relation), AC/DC (George Youngs younger brothers Angus & Malcolm), Flash in the Pan, Rose Tattoo, the Angels, and the solo career of fellow EasyBeat Stevie Wright. The 80' & 90's saw an explosion of Australian Artists reaching high on the charts in Australia, and abroad USA, UK. It is very notable today the number of TH-cam reaction videos to Australian Artists. Country music - you still see Slim Dusty in the Australian Country Charts, to Lee Kernaghan, Keith Urban, John Williamson, Kasey Chambers, and more recently Casey Barnes, Morgan Evans. The Saints (RIP Chris Baily 2022) was our introduction to Punk Rock -- the aussie way.
My Top 5 straya tracks....MENTAL AS ANYTHING...IF YOU LEAVE ME CAN I COME TOO..THE SAINTS ..STRANDED..THE ANGELS SHADOW BOXER..SPIDERBAIT ..BLACK BETTY...DIVINYALS ..BOYS IN TOWN..MOST ARE BANGERS..CHEERS FROM DOWNUNDER
Paul’s in his late 60’s now. Has been going since the ‘70’s … a national living treasure ❤️❤️ I would say he is the Australian version of Dylan and Leonard Cohen.
My top "5" (well, who can really stick to a top 5?): It's because I love you, Master's Apprentices; From little things big things grow, Paul Kelly; When the war is over, Cold Chisel; Black and Blue, Chain; Let there be rock, ACDC; Street Cafe, Icehouse; I hear motion; Models; Love in Motion, Icehouse featuring Chrissy Amphlett; Hey Little Girl, The Divinyls; Purple Sneakers, You am I; Better get a lawyer, The Cruel Sea; Little Ray of Sunshine, Axiom; The one thing, INXS; We are the people, Empire of the Sun; Wedding Ring, Easybeats; Harley and Rose, the Black Sorrows. I need to stop now. But, it you only listen to one more Australian song, make it 'It's because I love you'. It's a classic that was beyond it's time.
Paul Kelly Leaps and bounds, To Her Door- and How to Make Gravy Hoodoo gurus Thousand Miles Away Richard Clapton Deep Water, Girls on the Avenue and I am an Island Cold Chisel their entire back catalog AC/DC any song from the Bon Scott era but my favs are Let there be Rock and Ride On
Rolling blackouts Coastal fever (Rolling Blackouts CF) are a great ‘new’ band out of Melbourne , first album came out 2018 ‘air conditioned man’ is a brilliant song
Paul Kelly is if the best one of the best singer song writers of all time. He's up there with Dylan, Simon & Garfunkel, Neil Diamond, Springsteen and so on. Love PK's music, FYI the backing singer is he mentioned is Linda Bull (search " Vika & LInda" )
Guys, love your work! Great stuff. You ask for 5 tracks that typify Oz - Just a simple task... I couldn't even narrow it down to 5 bands let alone pick out 5 tracks. I looked at what others have suggested and agree with ALL of them. Bands/Performers I don't see mentioned yet who in my mind were popular through the 70s and 80s when Aussie music was finding its own voice - Skyhooks, Dragon, Little River Band, Sherbert, Australian Crawl, Richard Clapton, The Seekers, Models, Ted Mulry (for the slightly absurd - e.g. Get in My Car), Nick Cave (and the Bad Seeds), Gotye, Tina Arena, Savage Garden, Spiderbait, Mental as Anything, Crowded House, Silverchair, Rose Tattoo, The Black Sorrows, Jo jo Zep and the Falcons.... Tomorrow I'd come up with a totally different list. But Farnham would be at the top of any list. His live performances are legendary. His cover of Beatles' Help with the MSO is already mentioned, so I would add his breakout track "You're the Voice" from the same concert with the MSO. Maybe "Down Under" by Men at Work because you have to be Australian to understand half the lyrics!
An Aussie here, just discovered you guys. Nice that you’re delving into the occasional Aussie music week. If I may offer my five day suggestion (I’m guessing you’ve already been given a heap to try, but more can’t hurt): 1: Always Another by Matt Finish, either studio version or the live one they recorded for a show called Sounds or Sounds Unlimited 2: Cold Chisel’s cover of Wild Thing from their Last Stand concerts when they broke up back in the mid 80s 3: I Am An Island by Richard Clapton, studio version 4: Boys In Town by Divinyls, studio version 5: Stand In Line by Midnight Oil, live version from the 2JJJ concert on Goat Island in Sydney Harbour There’s a heap of great talent and energy in that lot. Cheers to you guys!
Thanks for the support and suggestions. We are absolutely compiling a list for the next Aussie week. Number five in your list we have covered already and it is amazing
@@TheThamesmen Yes. I just watched it and a number of Rush reactions plus SRV Texas Flood. I’ve reeeeeally got to go to bed now, but there’s more of your reactions I’ve got lined up in my Watch Later list for tomorrow. I know you probably won’t really get to the songs I’ve listed, but since you already heard Stand In Line I’m going to suggest another as a replacement: 5: The Unguarded Moment by The Church, studio version Anyhow, great stuff, really enjoying your channel. The Rush Xanadu reaction was very intuitive and intelligent and musically savvy. Nice one!!
@@sean---the-other-one Go to bed! We really appreciate the support and suggestions and we try to cover as many as possible so who knows what will come up. The thing we lack is enough time to do everything we want to do!
Ok you have my sub. Thanks for the great week that I just binged, right, for my pics for your next journey into Aussie music, I might do a chronological, roughly, thing. First of all, The Seekers, I’ll Never Find Another You. (First band to have international success) Skyhooks Living in the ‘70’s Hunters and Collectors Throw you arms around me (studio version please) Men at Work Overkill (studio version please) Pete Murray Better Days I could list about a hundred others but I was trying to think of something other people may not list. But I’m confident most Aussies would say all of these are classics.
Brilliant and thank you for your support we very much appreciate it. We are astounded by how many options we have for Australia. It is hugely exciting to have this chance to explore
Interesting comments re country music and folk. I used to listen to bush bands that played Australian country songs from way back and that included sea shanties and songs about bushrangers.
The version of this with Neil Finn is my favourite. There’s a cheeky kind of undertone from Neil in the early-middle of the song with Paul’s more mature tone bookending it.
'How to make gravy' is my fav. Its an Australian Christmas song.
This is what I wanted to say too. Also the one about land rights, name escapes me right now.
From Little Things Big Things Grow?
How to Make Gravy, From Little Things...both fantastic.
@@jemxs How to make gravy for me, classic Paul Kelly!
This song and Tim Minchin’s “white wine in the sun” are my favourite Australian Christmas songs

@@TheThamesmen you guys would LOVE the song Dumb Things .
Simply lyrical perfection. The story of life. An amazing beautiful song.
This is not Paul's most famous song, but as a father it hit me deeply. The idea of the life going full circle is a so poetic and thoughtful.
Cool. Thanks for being here and leaving the comment. More soon.

On a crowded beach in a distant time
At the height of summer, see a boy of five
At the water's edge, so nimble and free
Jumping over the ripples, looking way out to sea
Now a man comes up from amongst the throng
Takes the young boy's hand and his hand is strong
And the child feels safe, yeah, the child feels brave
As he's carried in those arms up and over the waves
[Chorus]
Deeper water
Deeper water
Deeper water
Is calling him on
[Verse 2]
Let's move forward now and the child's seventeen
With a girl in the back seat, tugging at his jeans
And she knows what she wants, she guides with her hand
As a voice cries inside him, "I'm a man, I'm a man!"
[Chorus]
Deeper water
Deeper water
Deeper water
Is calling him on
[Verse 3]
Now the man meets a woman unlike all the rest
Well, he doesn't know it yet, but he's out of his depth
And he thinks he can run, it's a matter of pride
But he keeps coming back like a cork on the tide
[Break]
Deeper water
Deeper water
[Verse 4]
Well, the years hurry by and the woman loves the man
Then one night in the dark she grabs hold of his hand
Says, "There, can you feel it kicking inside?"
And the man gets a shiver right up and down his spine
[Chorus]
Deeper water (Deeper water)
Deeper water (Deeper water)
Deeper water (Deeper water)
Is calling him on
[Verse 5]
Yeah, the clock moves around and the child is a joy
But death doesn't care just who it destroys
Now the woman gets sick, thins down to the bone
She says, "Where I'm going next, I'm going alone"
[Break]
Deeper water
Deeper water
[Verse 6]
(Deeper water) On a distant beach, lonely and wild
(Deeper water) At a later time, see a man and a child
(Deeper water) And the man takes the child up into his arms
(Deeper water) Takes her over the breakers
To where the water is calm
[Chorus]
Deeper water (Deeper water)
Deeper water (Deeper water)
Deeper water (Deeper water)
Deeper water (Deeper water)
Just the best lyrics, hey?
Where I'm going next, I'm going alone.
Breaks my heart.

1. Powderfinger (ANY!)- Waiting for the Sun
2. Screaming Jets- Better
3. Battle scars- Guy Sebastian (My daughter's fave)
4. Empire of the sun- Walking on a dream
5. Throw your arms around me- Hunters and collectors
Paul is a true legend. He has many hits but his lesser known songs are just as good. Have fun listening to more.
Completely new to us. So cool to find new artists like this
Paul Kelly' greatest hits is good. Deeper Water always makes me cry. Cheers from Tassie lads.
Thanks for the comments and also for being here. Be well G&A
Yeah you really need to listen to his lyrics. He’s a real story teller. Quite often very heartfelt.
Paul Kelly is great. The back-up singer was Linda Bull, she is part of a sister duo with Vika and funnily enough the band is called Vika and Linda. They were both back-up singers in the band "The Black Sorrows" which are a fantastic band.
His version of a song called From Little Things Big Things Grow
Thanks Jon
You've got to hear How To Make Gravy, one of Paul Kelly's very best.
Oh, Oh. Please. To Her Door.
I have already searched your content item by item looking for it and its missing.
Paul kelly to her door!
Awesome song and a real Aussie anthem.
Paul Kelly is my all time favorite songwriter. If he comes around you need to see him.
So many amazing songs written and performed by our great Paul Kelly over so many years. He is superb.
Thanks so much for being here and supporting us. Be well and have a fab day. G&A
Many thanks for being here and more super soon!
Aussie week was terrific! Thank you, Thamesmen!
And thanks Chris, great list!
Glad you enjoyed it
Amazing how every culture has their troubadour. listening to this week it is amazing how different the music is you can see how it is the same with just enough individuality to make it different. It's been amazing! looking forward to see how the other countries follow suite.
That one degree that you refer to is the SOUL in Australian Music. Very Soulful !
Thanks for the comment and also thanks for being here and more soon. Thanks G&A
Paul Kelly...Leaps and Bounds
Many thanks for being here and more super soon!
Paul Kelly has been releasing absolute killer albums & singles since the 70s. One of Australia's hidden gems that should be worshipped worldwide! 💯🔥🇦🇺
Edit: the best band right now, that happens to be Aussie is 'King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard'. They've been around for about a decade, and have already released 20 studio albums!
You won't be disappointed.🔥🇦🇺
Album from 1995. Remember buying the cd new. Great artist. Tons of great songs over the years. Still making fantastic music.
Looking to delve int more
Paul Kelly and the gang what legends!
Love those guys, awesome!
Many thanks for being here and have a fab weekend G&A
Awesome fellas. Another subscription/like from Australia!
Welcome
Great reaction guys. Paul Kelly never disappoints. I also recommend you check out John Butler playing Zebra, Betterman and Ocean, just awesome
Thanks for the message. Cheers for being here and have a fab weekend G&A ✌️
Five tracks? Hard. Cattle and Cain - Go Betweens. Wide Open Road - The Triffids. Wild Roses - Nick Cave. Loved One - The Loved ones. Flame Trees - Cold Chisel. A million more.
Brilliant thanks for the support
PK had so many great songs like “ From little things , big things grow”
Thank you for the suggestions we very much appreciate it
Paul Kelly & Gurramul singing 'Amazing Grace' just incredible harmonies
Worth looking into Matt Corby for a recent 2022 singer, not mainstream but well known as a unique singer/ songwriter.
Many thanks for being here and more super soon!
Matt Corby is amazing
Divinyls - Else... uncensored one
Hunters and Collectors - Say Goodbye
Hoodoo Gurus - Lalanie
The Loved Ones.. The Loved One
John J Francis.. "Simple Ben" from the "The Morning of the Earth"
Love your reactions, love Paul Kelly and Cold Chisel, but I'm gonna say the Go-Betweens are one of Australia's greatest songwriting bands and know you would love them.
Thanks for the message and take care. Cheers G&A
I love this Aussie Week you are doing. I worked as a roadie/lighting guy/bouncer in the 80's-90's and actually setup for both Paul Kelly and Jimmy Barnes a couple of times. I also have seen all your Aussie week ones live except Daddy Cool but I think Mum saw them.
Many thanks for being here and more super soon!
KOOL!!!!
Thank you, I enjoyed watching Aussie week. There are so many great songs there could easily be an Aussie month. Here are five more songs.
AC/DC - It’s A Long Way To The Top (If You Wanna Rock ‘N’ Roll) (1975)
John Farnham - Help! (1980)
Divinyls - Boys In Town (1981)
The Church - Under The Milky Way (1988)
Yothu Yindi - Treaty (1991)
For a current Aussie artist my pick is Didirri for his soulful indie folk-rock.
Hell yeah, Richard Clapton is an off-the-charts legend (ha! That's an unintended pun! 🤣)
Way too tough to nail down which song to recommend though!
Five tracks
Marseilles - The Angels live
Flame Trees - Cold Chisel
Tip of My Tongue - Diesel
To Her Door - Paul Kelly
Dead Heart - Midnight Oil
One Word - Baby Animals
More than n five I know. I could give you heaps more.
Brilliant thank you for the suggestions
The Mushroom video version of One Word is excellent
I'd suggest Ball Park Music. So much depth, so brilliant, so talented !
Ok. Thanks
Yes BPM, best band since the Beatles!
I feel sorry for non-Australians who don’t know about them 😭
‘It’s nice to be alive’ or ‘surrender’ or ‘IFLY’ or ‘fence sitter’ from their back catalogue or ‘cherub’ or ‘stars in my eyes’ more recently ❤️❤️❤️
Seeing Paul Kelly in concert in a couple of weeks. Can't wait for Mundi Mundi Bash. 3 days of Aussie music. worth driving for 2 days, staying in the outback with no water and power....... Bliss
So many Aussie bands for you to explore
Many thanks for being here and more super soon!
Pure genius!!!
And the music? Be well Cheers Alex
Finally going through this in order as I figured out how to find that. I am sooo TH-cam smart.
This guy is amazing and alongside Cold Chisel the 2 bands I need a deeper dive on.
HA HA Cheers Alex
Songs for a follow up Australian week would be for me:
The Easybeats - Friday on my Mind
The Saints - Know Your Product
Powderfinger- The Metre
Silver Chair - Straight Lines
The Drones - Shark Fin Blues
I heard Paul Kelly’s “Darlin it Hurts” today. A great example of Paul Kelly rocking. Otherwise, “From Little Things Big Things Grow” is a great story song.
Great reactions guys to our Aussie music. As requested, my top 5 are:
-Evie Pts1,2,&3 ( must do all 3 as they tell a story)- Stevie Wright
-Man Overboard-Do Re Mi (Deborah Conway)
-Boy & Bear-Southern Son
-Divinyls-Boys In Town
-Russell Morris-The Real Thing
Brillant choice
Stevie Wright performing Evie 1, 2 & 3 live on the steps of the Sydney Opera House is truly epic.
Thanks for the list
I've only just discovered you guys today. Subscribed!!!! (from Australia)
Welcome and thanks for joining. Lots of Aussie content for you!
@@_Dei_ okay. Interesting! Hopefully we can get to it!
@@_Dei_ well that sounds epic!
You should hear "dumb things" and "before too long" by Paul Kelly
George here. Apple Music played me Dumb Things randomly and love it. Great track
@@TheThamesmen yes sir it is excellent. The album Gossip by Paul Kelly and the Dots is worth a full listen also
5 quintessential Australian rock tracks that you may not know:
1. Gangajang - sounds of then
2. Yothu Yindi - Treaty
3. Powderfinger - My kind of scene.
4. Australian Crawl - Boys Light Up
Many thanks for being here and more super soon!
That would be Linda Bull , all class.
electric fields with missy higgins/jessica mauboy/john butler - from little things but things grow - written by Paul Kelly
Thanks for being here and supporting the channel. Hope you enjoyed the vid and more super soon!! See ya
"If I could start today again" by Paul Kelly . Simple, perfect song.
Thanks for being here and checking our channel out. More soon!! Thanks G&A
Paul is a legend.
Paul Kelly - how to make gravy, from St Kilda to Kings Cross, Meet me in the middle of the
Air, Leaps and bounds and Dumb things
Great journey
❤❤❤this song thanks for reviews of Aussie bands.
We love Aussie bands and their supporters even more
Only recently found your channel, and I'm still exploring.
You're right - we haven't YET!!! Hope you like the channel Scott
Many thanks for being here and more super soon!
Mark Seymour was way too ignored once he went solo. That’s a great song.
Evie 1 2&3 is worth watching . Thanks from down under 👏
Thank you for being here thank you for your support we very much appreciate it
Definitely have to listen to 'making Gravy' an iconic Aussie tune.
Thanks for being here and checking our channel out. More soon!! Thanks G&A
Paul Kelly is a certified National Treasure and just gets better with age! There are songs by him which have embedded themselves in the Australian consciousness - To Her Door, How to Make Gravy, and especially From Little Things Big Things Grow (co-written with Kev Carmody, about a history making fight for Aboriginal land rights - an absolute must).
Thanks for being here and checking our channel out. More soon!! Thanks G&A
He's a prolific writer across the full spectrum of music - from folk, country, bluegrass, blues, rock, film soundtracks et al - turning suburban scenes into glorious anthems. By the way, Alex. it's an ES 335, not a 355. The 355 and 345 have the tone selector switch ( as on BB's Lucille) below the bridge pickup.
Ohhhh Nice... Well spotted!!
How to Make Gravy is peak Paul Kelly. You will see the story telling parallels with Dylan for sure. About a bloke in prison missing the family Christmas dinner and you feel all of it. And yes, it definitely counts as a Christmas song!
The sound is Aussie pub rock !
Would love to visit an Aussie pop again
" from Little Things" exceptional lyrics in all his songs
You need to do a full (7 days) week. Maybe round it off with Midnight Oil and Hunters & Collectors. \m/\m/
2. Something a bit country Lee Kernaghan- Boys from the Bush or anything from Wolf Brothers
3. Guy Sebastian, Battle Scars live from home studio.
4. Matt Corby. Brother
5. Tina Arena I'm in Chains
Anything fromTesky Bros.
@@TheThamesmen I sure did. Thanks
Some great Paul Kelly songs as a good intro I would watch the music videos for To her door and all the dumb things, great srorytelling
Thanks
Paul is a great story teller in his music. Leaps and bounds is really good.
Thanks for the comment and also thanks for being here and more soon. Thanks G&A
1. How to Make Gravy - Paul Kelly. 2 Under The Milky Way - The Church. 3 Good Time - The Easy Beats 4. Berlin Chair - You Am I 5. A Thousand Miles Away - Hoodoo Gurus

Forty Miles To Saturday Night, your lovin is on my mind, Careless !!!!!
Thank you for supporting us and being here. I hope you enjoyed the vid. Have a fab weekend. Cheers G&A
Some of this band was from the TV show Rockwiz, now defunct.
Many thanks - We will
When talking about the Australian Music Industry - Johnny O'Keefe the original "Wild One" [1958] covered by Iggy Pop 1986 - got his break from Bill Haley / Lee Gordon, Then the EasyBeats [1966] Friday on my Mind covered by Garry Moore 1987 - Harry Varda & George Young then became commercially successful and writers and producers of many successful Australian rock acts, including John Paul Young (no relation), AC/DC (George Youngs younger brothers Angus & Malcolm), Flash in the Pan, Rose Tattoo, the Angels, and the solo career of fellow EasyBeat Stevie Wright.
Thanks for being here and supporting the channel. Hope you enjoyed the vid and more super soon!! See ya
Absolute Aussie legend 🔥👏👏👏👌😎
Thanks for the note. More soon and hope you have a fab weekend. Cheers G&A
My Top 5 straya tracks....MENTAL AS ANYTHING...IF YOU LEAVE ME CAN I COME TOO..THE SAINTS ..STRANDED..THE ANGELS SHADOW BOXER..SPIDERBAIT ..BLACK BETTY...DIVINYALS ..BOYS IN TOWN..MOST ARE BANGERS..CHEERS FROM DOWNUNDER
Paul’s in his late 60’s now. Has been going since the ‘70’s … a national living treasure ❤️❤️
I would say he is the Australian version of Dylan and Leonard Cohen.
He has that level of pure talent and empathy
Thanks guys. Careless is a great track too!
Will check
George, re the Hoodoo Gurus. Check out Dave Faulkner's pre-Gurus band The Victims. A song called ''Television Addict''. A unknown punk classic.
Many thanks for being here and more super soon!
Many thanks for being here and more super soon!
Paul Kelly Leaps and bounds, To Her Door- and How to Make Gravy
Hoodoo gurus Thousand Miles Away
Richard Clapton Deep Water, Girls on the Avenue and I am an Island
Cold Chisel their entire back catalog
AC/DC any song from the Bon Scott era but my favs are Let there be Rock and Ride On
Many thanks for being here and more super soon!
Rolling blackouts Coastal fever (Rolling Blackouts CF) are a great ‘new’ band out of Melbourne , first album came out 2018 ‘air conditioned man’ is a brilliant song
Thanks will check!
Thanks for being here and supporting the channel. Hope you enjoyed the vid and more super soon!! See ya
An Aussie here, just discovered you guys. Nice that you’re delving into the occasional Aussie music week.
If I may offer my five day suggestion (I’m guessing you’ve already been given a heap to try, but more can’t hurt):
1: Always Another by Matt Finish, either studio version or the live one they recorded for a show called Sounds or Sounds Unlimited
2: Cold Chisel’s cover of Wild Thing from their Last Stand concerts when they broke up back in the mid 80s
3: I Am An Island by Richard Clapton, studio version
4: Boys In Town by Divinyls, studio version
5: Stand In Line by Midnight Oil, live version from the 2JJJ concert on Goat Island in Sydney Harbour
There’s a heap of great talent and energy in that lot.
Cheers to you guys!
Thanks for the support and suggestions. We are absolutely compiling a list for the next Aussie week. Number five in your list we have covered already and it is amazing
@@TheThamesmen
Yes. I just watched it and a number of Rush reactions plus SRV Texas Flood.
I’ve reeeeeally got to go to bed now, but there’s more of your reactions I’ve got lined up in my Watch Later list for tomorrow.
I know you probably won’t really get to the songs I’ve listed, but since you already heard Stand In Line I’m going to suggest another as a replacement:
5: The Unguarded Moment by The Church, studio version
Anyhow, great stuff, really enjoying your channel.
@@TheThamesmen
I can well imagine it’s hard to get to all the suggestions you’d get. So much good music out there.
@@sean---the-other-one we live by suggestions... Otherwise, we end up just listening to music we know.... Have a great weekend. Alex
Ok you have my sub. Thanks for the great week that I just binged, right, for my pics for your next journey into Aussie music, I might do a chronological, roughly, thing. First of all,
The Seekers, I’ll Never Find Another You. (First band to have international success)
Skyhooks Living in the ‘70’s
Hunters and Collectors Throw you arms around me (studio version please)
Men at Work Overkill (studio version please)
Pete Murray Better Days
I could list about a hundred others but I was trying to think of something other people may not list.
Really interesting combinations
The version of this with Neil Finn is my favourite. There’s a cheeky kind of undertone from Neil in the early-middle of the song with Paul’s more mature tone bookending it.
