Correction: my ti frame is not made in the UK, it's made in Taiwan. Stanton is getting their ti frames built to their specs in Taiwan, to their tubing specs, in order to meet demand.
I have the previous version of the steel Sherpa, so 853 made in Taiwan. The welds look pretty much like your ti bike. I hate to say it as a Brit but the British built Sherpa doesn’t look as good as the Taiwanese versions in terms of welds. The colour of course is stunning.
I remember Dan Stanton when he used to work in my local bike shop when I first started mountain biking. He left there to start up Stanton Bikes, cool guy 😎. Shout out to the Derby massive!
Details like the tire comparison are why your channel is the one I trust with my patreon dollars. As a grad student pinching pennies, I just can't afford to get experiMENTAL. I'm scrounging nickels to get the spokes and finish up my 27.5*3 wheelset for bikepacking. Its great to feel secure that when I do eventually have the resources available for a new frame down the line I'll know my hard saved wheels and other components will transfer over, because you've done the work to get out the information. Thanks for the vid.
I didn't realise their geo numbers were at low travel sag. On paper their relative steep HAs have put me off. Good to hear the true numbers and your take on their build ethos for achieving the maximum ride suppleness they can get away with. You've done a much better job of selling their frames to me than Stanton ever have, top work!
Your videos are wonderful. Thank you for giving us so much useful information. I decided to try a Stanton Sherpa Ti Gen 3 frame based on your recommendations. I just ordered it, so I now must be patient for it to arrive from the UK. Thank you again.
Stanton do some lovely frames. I was so close to buying the Slackline. Ended up getting a BTR Ranger. Another UK steel frame. It’s a bit of a bruiser at 33.7lbs 😜
Hi, Just bought the Ti version. I have it built up but not given it a proper blast yet, but it does look amazing. The main point in contacting you is to find out where you were riding in the videos for the comparison of both the Ti and steel and in the other video where you compare the Taiwan and UK steel. The trails look amazing and I need to put in on a trip sometime in the future!
Dunno if you've already found out but he's in Sedona, AZ. Definitely a worthy vacation spot. How is that sherpa treating you? I also want the Ti version.
Can't wait to hear your reviews of these frames. Don't think you've ever been this excited to ride a rig you had for review. A Ti bike is on my wishlist, and that frame looks amazing! If I could ever find a Ti frame with the right geometry and can fit 29+ I'm afraid I'd make the wife mad because I would have to buy it no matter the cost.
The sliding dropouts would be awesome, I have an older gen 2 Sherpa with the same dropouts so that old bike would also grow new possibilities. The rear triangle as a whole looks identical to that, have only had 2,4" on it but looks like I'll get something wider to try.
I've been waiting for you to review the steel Sherpa! Looking forward to hearing your views. I have a 17" 4130 (in metallic grey with mint green decals!) and currently have it set up as a mullet with 2.6 Schwalbes both ends on Nukeproof Horizon 30i wheels. Initially tried it as a 29er but found the mullet was a lot more fun (I'm 5'5" so small rear wheel just feels right). I'm also running a 130 Pike (it's what I had) so the HTA is pretty slack now, but I haven't noticed any wandering uphill--in fact it climbs like an ebike. I slammed the stem and have high rise (38mm) bars and it feels spot on. It's such a fun bike on techy descents and is super easy to manual. Enjoy!
Stanton has been my dream bike for years! My first bike was a cube acid and I had half a mind to sell my bike to buy just the frame from Stanton in 2015. The dream still lives on maybe next year I'll be able to finally buy the frame.
My conversion of a 99' Rocky Mountain Blizzard to a monstercross/gravel bike is recently painted similar celeste color with black components to make the color pop.
After riding full suspension bikes for years I bought a Get 1 Switchback in steel. I liked it so much that I bought a second hand Ti frame and sold the steel one. Lovely frame and perfect welds. Only thing a didn't like is that I could only get a 2.35" 650b wheel in it, looks like they've sorted that out. The fork I had let it down as well I'm sure, a very divey Fox CTD. Wish I still had it sometimes.
Looking forward to your review, I’m looking at buying one of these and can’t decide wether the ti is worth the extra expense or not….that mint green is stunning 🤩
I will definitely consider this one as a bikepacking bike, because I've been back and forth quite a while on what will suit me the best. The possibility of tire choice is also a very big bonus, so you can experiment on one single bike. Love it. Personally I still won't consider gearbox + beltdrive drivetrain because I still think it weighs too much, and I also refuse to have gripshift. A regular drivetrain will do the trick.
Love the channel - and this will be my dream review! I've pretty much decided on a Sherpa but don't know whether to go for Ti or steel. Also can't wait to hear you views on different wheel sizes, and whether it works as a 'mullet'. Cheers!
Sedona will definitely tell the tale of these beautiful bikes! Love your content infinantly!!! It's absolutely pro and top notch information! Everything you learn here can be used tomorrow on your favorite trails in real time! Blessings! 🤗
Been thinking about replacing my Next Gen Sherpa, but after a really good ride last night and watching this, maybe I'll just hold on a little longer. SUCH a good frame.
That colour! I’ve got a Slackline on the way, hoping I can get a seafoam green to match my Fender Jazzmaster! Super close to the mint green you’ve got there Steve. Can’t wait to see the ride review.
I had a gen2 Slackline. Best bike I have ever ridden! Loved it and have regret I sold it to follow the longer lower slack trend. You will love the Slackline, most underrated frame in Stantons lineup.
It took a while to get them all, but it makes my job a lot easier (until i get a superboost plus bike in). I wish i had a few more sets of drivetrains and suspension so i could compare bikes back to back. Hopefully one day.

Should be similar to the Sherpa only with 27.5 wheels. I also picked up a set of Nukeproof Horizon V2s for the build. Really appreciated that review also.
Really interested to see how you find the 2 bikes ride, I did the same with a Nordest Britango - tested the steel and Ti versions, I was also considering the Stanton Sherpa (they are magnificent looking bikes) and also the Sonder Signal. I ended up with the Nordest Britango Ti and love it
My Stanton Sherpa Gen3 Ti has welds every bit as you described and yours looks, Its honestly perfect, I checked every last small part when I got the frame last September, BUT mine was made in Taiwan, would not swap it..I would not be put off by a well made Taiwanese frame. Surprised you have a UK made one....possibly also Taiwanese?
What is the max fork travel you would use on this bike? I wish that more companies would make it much more clear as to how HTA is measured. I had written off the Sherpa until I heard what you said about 67* after sag measurement... Also like that it can take a larger tire too. Sherpa is back on the radar for me now. I'm eagerly awaiting the other reviews and comparison. Hope your finger is doing okay (even if these videos are from way before that).
Most companies will state on their geo charts whether it's measured at sag or not, but a lot of people miss it. I believe it's rated up to a 130mm fork. If you're wanting more travel than 130mm, check out the switch9er
Hey Steve, I love the experiments and the tire size checks. Tire size compatibility is a big deal for me. PS does the custom paint job mean you are keeping the steel version?!
Do you remember what length stem you ran on these? Stanton says it’s built around a 35, but yours looks longer than that here. Reason I ask is that mine feels cramped with a 35, wondering if the steering will be affected by going longer. Thx.
Thanks Steve for the great content. Quick question, as I couldn’t tell from the pictures, from your description or from the Stanton website. Is the head tube tapered or straight?
Really looking forward to seeing the ride comparison. Along with Cotic it's another Derbyshire, UK brand that bangs out some stunning bikes! Either one of these (steel or Ti) would be very welcome in my garage alongside my Cotic FlareMAX 😍 (FS sorry 😂) SWEET!

Such beautiful frames. Just think of Stanton adding the logo as a customer service bonus. Customer service, though not something you often talk about when reviewing, is still relevant to any review wherein you can talk about it.
True, but there's a reason i don't mention customer service too often in my reviews. As an industry insider, sometimes i get special treatment. I speak with the owners of the companies and the designers of the bikes. I get higher priority responses. In most cases, i get the same exact customer service as any regular joe, but in some cases I get special treatment. In cases where i interact with a company and don't tell them who I am, i will definitely mention customer service.

Wow this looks great it meets a lot of what I want in my next bike. I live in SoCal so similar conditions(i.e. no mud) & I'd be curious to see how this is with 29x2.6. Thank you! You mentioned this the lightest bike you have reviewed so far, I take that means this is lighter than a Spot Rocker(carbon)?
Of course mtn bikes today are designed for more rowdy riding than those 26ers from the 90s, but an old Breezer steel frame would be only 4.3 lbs and aluminum would be even lighter.. So I was a little surprised that the 853 frame was 5.8 lbs
That's the lightest steel frame I've had in yet for review. Bikes are a lot beefier these days, with slacker head angles, more travel, more leverage on them with bigger tires, and trails that demand a lot more of them. It used to be that steel bikes were almost as light as ti bikes.
Correction: my ti frame is not made in the UK, it's made in Taiwan. Stanton is getting their ti frames built to their specs in Taiwan, to their tubing specs, in order to meet demand.

@@persistentconsistency it sounds like you'd be an excellent candidate for my bike consultation service over on Patreon. Of you find yourself stuck beterrn a few bikes or curious how they compare, hit me up on Patreon. I'd be happy to help over there.
@@hardtailparty I've definitely been considering it, but I am such a novice rider that just about anything will work for me as long as I don't go overboard. I've reached out to the folks at Stanton about the Sherpa vs Slackline and that convo is alive and kicking!
I'd definitely love to get your input regarding my terrain, riding style and hardtail you think might fit my needs, so I will likely hit up your pattern for some final thoughts. I figure the $30 is well worth the large amount of info you've provided through countless videos I've watched. As a matter of fact, let me go ahead and set it up so I can contact you now lol! It's all I'm thinking about anyway lol!
This is the lightest steel bike ive reviewed so far. The rocker is significantly lighter.
@@hardtailparty ah that makes more sense thank you
Of course mtn bikes today are designed for more rowdy riding than those 26ers from the 90s, but an old Breezer steel frame would be only 4.3 lbs and aluminum would be even lighter..
That 853 looks a lot like a modern take on the Niner MCR (the original one, not that dumb FS gravel bike) which is a good thing.
Hi ave ever ridden a chumba sendero mtb if you have what do you think of them.
Just around a parking lot. Not enough to comment on it.
is it only me, or the silhouette of the sherpa looks the same as the hardtail party’s logo? 😁
It's meant to be.
exciting
Your logo on a custom bike. How cool is that?!
So rad.
Is the Ti using a straight or tapered head tube?
Both frames accept tapered forks.
