    I've had this kit for about 2 years and it has worked well enough for me on jazz, funk and R&B gigs in medium high and high tunings, a highlight is the portability for the hardworking drummer it gives you that old school sound and the look, I consider that the snare is the weak point of the kit and I agree that the arm that goes in the bass drum could have a little more height. Finally if you are considering buying it also save for some good drumheads for me it has worked with Aquarian Modern vintage medium on the toms if you are looking for an open and warm sound like old school and Aquarian superkick 2 on the kick drum for a controlled sound and with a lot of punch.
    I give it an 8/10

    Just bought one of these, same colour too. Because I saw your video, when I got the kit, I went round and tightened up every nut, before changing the heads.
    I also put two nylon washers on each lug, and it holds tune perfectly.
    I put a new snare side skin on (code 5 mil) and a new snare wire by code too, with a Evans UV1 on the snare batter, with Evans G2 on top and G1 on bottom of the toms and an Evans EMAD on the kick.
    I think it sounds as good as it can now, like you said‘it’s not the best sounding kit in the world, but it’s compact and portable, and that’s what I bought it for.
    Thanks for your honest advice, it helped me a lot.

    Hey man,
    Thanks for the honest review! I came into this set a few weeks ago, have been breaking it in with the knowledge that i may not ever be 100% satisfied with the sound. I'm experimenting with what I can do to get it into decent small studio shape. This review was completely fair on all the positives and negatives that I've found. And helpful!

    This kit would’ve looked so much better if they would’ve continued with the wood hoops they have on the bass drum but put them on all of the drums & have claw styled lugs. That would’ve, to me, sealed the deal. But i dont know that’s just me. 🤷🏼‍♂️

    • @anthonynunyabizness9989
      @anthonynunyabizness9989 4 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      If I may...I have that set up myself. I have the club kit, and the L80's. I tried both the RTOM black hole heads as well as the Remo Silent Strokes. In my opinion, they heads were too expensive for not really helping much at all, the heads were still the loudest part of my kit. Not to mention I felt that with the amount of time I will be practicing on this kit, the rebound of the mesh head are too wierd and may be a detriment to my technique when I actually get to play on normal head. Instead what I found to be PERFECTION (for me at least) is to leave a solid, thin practice pad on my snare, and to use the "mouse-pad" type pads for the toms. Along with a blanket in my kick, and a thick blanket hanging over a chair in front of my kit, and my wife can only just hear the physical hit of my kick drum. Shes really sensitive and says the cant hear it with the tv on at a normal everyday level.

    • @anthonynunyabizness9989
      @anthonynunyabizness9989 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I apologize for the novel but please hear me out as I am in love with this set up for quiet practicing. I still hear my snares clear as day when I hit the hard pad, and the softer pads still allow me to hear the tone of the heads. I've recorded myself just for the sake of playback to myself with nothing fancy and I still hear my kit clean.

    • @rhythmcaster2018
      @rhythmcaster2018 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@anthonynunyabizness9989 Hi. Have you consider Roland PowerPly mesh heads. Mine was 12" dual-ply bundled with TD17KVX snare drum, never used them on acoustic drum though. Anyway, It has lesser rebound than single-ply but still not the same as an actual head for acoustic drums. There's also 3-ply mesh head but I believed they only bundled with Roland high-end digital snare drum.

    • @anthonynunyabizness9989
      @anthonynunyabizness9989 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@rhythmcaster2018 I haven't but I may look into those. I'm getting pretty tired of the practice pad on my snare. I've come to the conclusion, sound dampening the room is the better bet. Though I still stand by the Zildian l80s, thems stills the shit.

    I've been thinking about buying this kit as my practice kit and if we're playing with another band and they have to loan my kit, I'd pack this with me. Does the floor tom fit inside the bass drum and rack tom into the floor tom? Trying to save some space when packing our car. I've been playing with Tama Cocktail Kit for a couple years, far more expensive and experimental than this, but fun to mess around. It can really sound like a real kit when tuned and mic'd right. I'm not a fan of reso heads so it compliments my playing style. Have you played that kit? I mostly play country/folk stuff so small kits are my loved ones. Loved this review, gotta watch more your stuff, man!

    • @BrendrumJones
      @BrendrumJones  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey, Joakium yeah i played that kit its very nice. With tama club jam you can get the floor tom in the bass drum but you wont get the tom in the floor tom. But what i do is have a bigger bass drum bag and put the tom in the bag with the bass drum. And then a bigger floor tom bag, so the floor tom and up to a 6" deep snare can go in the same bag. so the drums only have two bags. It works well. Are you going to pick this up?

    • @JoakimOtamaa
      @JoakimOtamaa 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BrendrumJones Thanks! That's pretty close to the packing system of cocktail kit but with two bags, not a bad idea at all! Probably some day, I have a Pearl Vision kit, I sold the 22" bass drum and used the jungle kit adapter to convert the 16" floor tom into a bass drum, no regrets. I really like that jazzy look of this club jam kit and I prefer 18" over 16", the price and sizes of all the drums are really likable. I also thought about Pearl Midtown and Sonor AQX Jazz kits but Tama's rideholder looks way too cool.

    What us everyone using for a bass drum pedal on this? Anyone using a riser and if so which one? Legs on the bass drum seem very short to me.

      worth noting that the paper-y sound happens if you’re burying the beater, need to work on constant relase technique to make the most of a smaller kick

    • @rosivo3142
      @rosivo3142 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@nameloss riight right, cuz the bass gets muffled if you don't release. no resonance. i haven't had a set since i was 12 and was doing a lot of online research before buying one again 17 years later. went with the yamaha stage custom hip. it has a 8"x20" kick. excited to play around again, need it so bad these days 😰

    Damn man, I understand your point about the sound of the drums but it doesn’t seem you have the best tuning technique (especially based on that 14”) imo

    • @BrendrumJones
      @BrendrumJones  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      yeah Chuck maybe , ive never been crazy into tuning and this kits range goes from low to very high in one turn, remember its a 14X7. In truth if you think youre going to get an amazing sounding kit for under 400, its not going to happen.

    Bro maybe it doesn't sound good cause it's a BOP kit and you have it tuned so low... don't buy a buy kit if you want a saggy head big rock sound. This is for high tuning
